Servers to ask for: Tee, Sama, Josh, James, Grahm, Raegan. I’ve had them all they are great! DINNER: -(All veggies are cooked like North Italia, Brussels have different flavor profile. Can ask to change cooking style easily) (KATSU SANDWHICH: one of my favorites. House made Milk bread that’s toasted to perfection?? yes please! Coleslaw is barely noticeable which is good for people like me who dislike coleslaw. Fries are good. The truffle fries with parm are better. The katsu chicken is always perfectly cooked!!) (ROASTED SALMON: Perfectly cooked salmon. The only better restaurant with Salmon is THE CLUB INC. which makes sense because it’s 7k a year to even be able to eat there. Faro is cooked perfectly. They are a little light on the asparagus so make sure to ask for heavy asparagus.) (STEAK: temp is perfect every time & the truffle butter is yummy, but not super truffly. Fries are good but I would personally try subbing them with Brussels or asparagus for the best flavor combo. Also the arugula salad is small, so I would sub it with Mac and cheese or a different veggie. Their Mac is one of my favorites especially because they don’t use packaged cheese!!!) (PIZZAS:good!! Small but very filling. Hardly any sauce so make sure to ask for extra. The pizzas are designed to have less sauce, so if you value sauce make sure to request extra.) (BURGERS: Very good, but nothing out of the ordinary. I don’t think they personally see their burgers as a main seller, but they are still good. The Mac is a BIg Mac replica, the pub has bacon and bbq) (TURKEY PASTRAMI SANDWHICH: House made pretzel bun! My personal favorite sandwich. Just try it & you will love it!) DESSERTS: MONKEY BREAD was very good and worth the wait. Looked amazing and was filling. BANANA BAR was also very good with a unique flavor profile. The bottom crust that is peanut butter and Frosted Flakes was the best sweet I’ve ever eaten. MUD PIE was more espresso than chocolate in my opinion but if that’s what you like then I wouldn’t hesitate to order it! APPITIZERS
• (salmon dip is a must try. Tahini dip is my favorite. Pretzels and fondue are probably the best in the BHAM area.)
Very well run restaurant. Make sure to remember that this is based in Arizona, typical Alabama flavors are not seen! Embrace it! Also come here expecting to pay for quality! If you don’t want quality try Outback Steakhouse. Compare their steak & you will see that OB is rough and dry while CDO IS dripping and tender. The only better salmon in BHAM is THE CLUB INC. but that costs 7k a year so I think 28 dollars should suffice for a 7k worth salmon.. just saying! Quality over quantity here folks!! Service is awesome. If you have any issues just ask for a manager and they will literally do anything to help you. Must try!! I’ve been here so many times and have never disliked it!! (Some dishes just aren’t for me though, that’s why your...
Read moreMy reservation was set. March 20, 2024, at 8PM. Culinary Dropout, Birmingham, AL. It was opening night for the "Dropout" crew in Birmingham, so I'll be easy, but honest. Parking is what you'd expect at any restaurant located at The Summit. However, it's never a long walk for many folks. We had reservations and waited approximately 15 minutes, but the table was well worth the short wait. The drink menu is one of the things that "The Cul" is known for in their restaurant chain and well worth looking over. I ordered a cocktail named Campfire Vibes, and let me tell you, it was OTW (outta this world). I'd say it was about the best drink made with "any" bourbon that I've ever had. Now to the food, and I did say easy but honest. I had the Prosciutto Deviled Eggs. I lived in Sicily the first time I had Prosciutto, and because refrigeration isn't like it is here, it's cured like a lot of pork and easy to procure. Here, statewide, it's a costly staple. So, I still thought I'd be getting deviled eggs wrapped in the thin sliced ham, but instead, it was a few flecks of dried Prosciutto sprinkled on not nearly enough eggs (I think it was 4 dried up deviled eggs). Anyway, lesson learned, and I won't order again. For my entrée I ordered the first item on the menu, the 36-Hour Pork Ribs. Being that I was raised up in the Lone Star State and have that extra cheekbone, and also that thing about knowing what "ok" BBQ is, what good BBQ is, and what GREAT bbq is. Well, sorry to say that the ribs I got were barely "ok." Some might disagree, and everyone has a right to their opinion, but I'm certain the ribs I got on opening night were dry. Also, the sauce was thick like paste thick, and the flavors were cooked out. I'm no bqq expert, but maybe 36 hours is too long?! My sweet beautiful sig-other just told me to mention that the starter bread was dry. (It's free!!) That's all for the food and drink. Hey, I was easy by giving the food 4 stars! Now, the atmosphere and staff that evening were OTH!! (offthehook!!) A few of the restaurant staff greeted us and introduced themselves. We had a pleasant conversation and some good humor and laughs with the manager and a couple of other staff members ("Dropouts"). The only person I stated my dislike of the food order to was a serious young man who said he would look into it, after he explained that the little brownish flecks in my deviled eggs was the Prosciutto. I chock the other foods up to TTHON (tryingtohardopeningnight) I'll be going to Culinery Dropout, Birmingham AGAIN!😉 AYRDC...
Read moreI was really excited to try Culinary Dropout 1) because I love the name and 2) because I like trying new restaurants. I went on a Tuesday night expecting it to be less busy, but no, full house. We had to wait a little over an hour for our table, but since the Summit has a lot of places to shop, that was fine. Now the establishment has a really nice vibe and I love the vintage decor. On to the food...one word...BLAND. I was unpleasantly surprised by this. I ordered the deviled eggs for an app, and they had no spark. None. My mom ordered the onion rings and they were fine, nothing to write home about. My entree was the the meatloaf and I was expecting it to be great because anytime I've had meatloaf at a restaurant, it has always been really flavorful. Ya'll, this meatloaf was so under seasoned! I had to add salt to it, and that should not be the case with a piece of meat. The potatoes were fine and the green beans were good, but I have never been this disappointed in a piece of meatload in my entire life. I didn't even take my leftovers. My mama had the fish and chips and didn't like anything but the fries. She said the fish was very salty and the coleslaw was even salty! The service was pretty good I felt for it to be newly opened. The hostess at the front was super sweet despite all the people. Now this might be my elder millenial talking, but the wait staff dress in street clothing and it is so confusing and distracting. Especially if you aren't paying attention (and the place is dimly lit). You will be like who is this rando approaching my table? Oh that's just my waitress. Or a bus boy. If they didn't have food in their hands, it was very difficult to differentiate them from a patron. Also, there were a lot of exposed midriffs and coming from a person who has a burn scar on her belly from 20 years ago from spilling hot food, I'm just concerned for their safety. I'm just saying, protect yourselves ladies and gents! Will I give the place another shot? Yes, in several months after the hype dies down just because I like the ambiance. Perhaps it was an off night. Perhaps I made a bad menu selection. But they only have one more opportunity for me to spend nearly $100 to leave feeling I would have been better off cooking the meal myself...
