My husband who had been here before took myself and his parents from out of town here for his dad’s birthday. My husband raved at how good the food was, so we were all looking forward to our visit. The only positive thing I can say about this place is the food is very good but that’s about it. When we first got there, we were sat in an area with multiple fans going, which for some might be fine but I have temperature sensitivities and was so cold I was shivering and trying to stuff my arms inside my shirt. Having worked 10+ years in my younger years in customer service, I know how annoying it would be to be ask to have our fan above us turned off, so I made sure to be as sweet and kind as possible when asking. Our waitress, who couldn’t seemed to be bothered with anything our whole visit, kind of just stood there and wasn’t really willing to do much about it until she finally suggested we moved to another area. I kindly thanked her for doing this. Her service was just awful! No enthusiasm, not helpful, pretty much just had this attitude like we were bothering her the whole time. When it was my father in law’s turn to order I mentioned that it was his birthday. Now we love going out and trying new places to eat, and any place I have ever been too, expensive or not has always acknowledged a birthday in some shape or form. Most will give a birthday treat and or sing or at the very least wish that person a happy birthday. Our waitress just kept on with the order like I never even mentioned it. We got our food which was very good. My husband and I had steak which was very good. Then the check came and again there was no mention of happy birthday or anything which I couldn’t believe!! My husband decided to speak up and asked if they did anything for birthdays?? And her response was…… well I mean if you want a piece of cake or something we could probably do that!!!! I was completely shocked!!!! What a way to make a customer feel, especially on their birthday!! This was not a cheap dinner and you can’t even muster up a $5 piece of cake or at the very least wish your customer a happy birthday!?! I was so dissatisfied, regardless of the food, customer service is so important, we could have chose many other places to celebrate and spend our money. We will...
Read moreI have been coming to Hyde Park for years and have spent thousands of dollars in this establishment, and it’s a shame that I will never return. I am absolutely disgusted by my experience on Friday, April 4th, 2025, and I highly recommend anyone and everyone who dines in Birmingham to never return. Before I say anything, allow me to say that I own two restaurants in Birmingham myself, so I am speaking from an owner/operator perspective, and I am still just as disgusted.
I arrived at the establishment and told the valet that I’d like to valet my car but keep it in the parking spot overnight because I am going to drink and don’t want to drink and drive. The valet attendant told me, “I can park it up front for you, but it’s $40 to keep it up front.” I was shocked that on a Friday night, where each valet parking spot was completely empty, Birmingham is dead, and there is no one inside the restaurant, that they are telling me it is $40 to keep it up front when the sign advertised that it is $10 for valet.
So, as I walk into the restaurant, I ask the manager and hostess how much valet is, and they both said it is $10 and this man is lying to you, and proceeded to hand me the number to the “Four Star Valet” company they work with to call and file a complaint. So clearly it was a slow night. The bum valet worker said, let me take advantage of this young and wealthy kid. But the thing is, I don’t care if it’s $1,000 to valet. I am spending $400 on dinner for 2—do you think I care how much the valet costs? It’s the principle of the situation that the valet attendant is a bum who is trying to take advantage of me because he sees me pull up in a nice car as a young person and thinks he can make prices out of thin air.
As I leave dinner, I told the valet worker, here’s your $20 because you lied, it is $10, and you wanted to take advantage of me. He told me he was going to call the cops. I said, call the cops. The cops come, and I give the bum his $40 and leave because I’m not going to waste my time with a joke of a situation and establishment.
Hyde Park, you need to do better. I don’t care if the valet company is not affiliated with you. That’s a direct representation of your brand and restaurant. I’m absolutely disgusted, and I’ll...
Read moreMy husband and I and two other couples celebrated our New Year's Eve at your restaurant last Saturday evening. We had a 7:45 p.m. reservation, arrived on time, and only waited a few minutes before being seated in a lovely, rather private room. After that, just about everything was downhill. We made note of the card on the table which said that dinner should not extend beyond 2 ¼ hours. We were certain that would not be a problem.
Our waiter, Christian, took an order for a bottle of champagne. We waited and finally heard after 15 minutes or so that the bottle we had ordered was not available. We ordered an alternative bottle. It was at least another 15 to 20 minutes before that bottle arrived. Christian enlisted the help of another waiter to open the bottle. We enjoyed our champagne for a long time before he returned to take our orders for appetizers. Two of us ordered the wedge salad and asked that it be chopped. At this point my husband ordered a bottle of wine for us. Again, we waited a long time, perhaps another 15 or 20 minutes, before we were told that that bottle was not available. My husband ordered an alternative that Christian said you had. Another delay before we were informed that that bottle was not available either. We never got an apology for any of this.
When our salads arrived they were clearly not chopped wedge salads,; they were chopped, but they were not iceberg lettuce, had no pecans or port wine drizzle, and were quite small.
We finally ordered our entrees. I ordered the lamb chops, and when he brought them, Christian asked if I needed mint jelly. I said no, but that I would appreciate lemon wedges. If I had waited for those wedges to eat my chops, I would still be sitting in that room; no lemons ever arrived.
The same long delay occurred when waiting for dessert, and an even longer wait for the final check. We had to flag him down.
All in all, we did not leave the restaurant until nearly 10:30 p.m., nearly 3 hours after we arrived! I must say that the poor service did not ruin our evening, but it was hugely disappointing that a restaurant of your caliber and at your price point would not provide...
