This is a review especially dedicated to Mr James No last name. Apparently this person is dealing with customer service and so on.
If you are staying at this hotel, you have to make sure you have record/ proof of all your belonging. Otherwise, they may disappear and the hotel won't compensate you at all. Maybe there are so many celebrities living here and they don't care about little missing articles? Or regular joe like you and me doesn't deserve any customer care?
I had to stay in this hotel 2-3 nights/ week for almost a month ( fortunately, i could convince my boss to switch me to another hotel for the next 3 months). During my last week's stay, I had my dogs with me since this hotel is pet friendly. Needless to say I had to pay that $ 150 one time cleaning charge and $ 5 tips for house keeping, which actually worth it.
The room they gave me Room # 322 was definitely a pet friendly room because it smelled like dogs. I didn't complain to the hotel because I understood the dog smell thing. I am a dog owner, I know sometimes dogs may have " accidents". The first 3 days stay was peaceful and lovely. On the 4th day ( a Saturday), I left my room before the noon and left the room for house keeping. I had a bag of laundry in the hotel's laundry bag and has the laundry slip in it. I was going to take it to the front desk, however, the house keeper showed up and my dogs were in the need of leaving the room asap. So I left the laundry bag with the house keeper. When I came back, the room was cleaned roughly, the laundry bag was gone. So I thought the house keeper took it to the laundry. Two days later, my laundry didn't show up . I called the hotel front desk. They sent the housekeeping manager to me and said they would investigate. However,I was out of clean cloths, the hotel tried to offer a $ 150 compensation. It was more than ridiculous. I didn't have super expensive clothes in the laundry bag, but they are more than $ 150. Two sets of yoga clothing ( lulu-lemon) , and three t-shirts, underwear, and so on. A total value about $ 400-450. Before I checked out, I told the hotel staff that if they need more time to determine the location of my laundry, I would be back in a week and we will go from there.
So today, I was on my way driving to the hotel, Mr James No last name called me on behave of the hotel GM. Told me literally that they don't recognize the existence of my laundry, and they never had problem like this in the past 15 years. So my laundry was fictional. And BY THE WAY, the room I stayed with my dogs, were smelly so they couldn't rent it for a week , may need to replace the carpet. What is the context of these 2 things? Now I realized that I SHOULD have complained about the room odor instead of being understandable?!!!! And he offered NO compensation of my missing laundry because they have NO record of the existence of my laundry. But I have record of the existence of my belonging?!!! Maybe I should have locked my laundry in the safe?! That is just so outrages ! I wish he could have called me the day before my trip, so I could have booked other hotel in advance instead of being insulted by staying in townsend hotel again. Anyways, what can I do? I can't get any compensation on their misconduct. Well guess only thing I could do was stop contributing revenue for them.
This is such a shame, I guess all these celebrities ' visiting made this hotel snobbish and forgot it is a hotel for the general public. They probably forgot as consumer we have our rights. Maybe our rights is so inappreciable comparing to the fame/ wealth of celebrities. I am not sure that GM is fictional or not, that person had NO time to deal with me at all.
I won't recommend this hotel to any of my friends/ colleagues. There are other hotels, maybe a few miles away from Birmingham, but they won't take your business...
Read moreOMG HOW DISAPPOINTING !!!My BFF, called me all excited to know she booked a room at the Townsend Hotel, when. she told me she had pd $435 plus, well we were both so excited . We had planned on going to the Detroit Zoo Lights and stay at Townsend Hotel. OMG we were so excited. We get there and the Lady who was checking us in said, sorry but we are so sorry but your room is not in good shape and could you please pre- check in and come back, "What " we booked this room over 3 weeks ago. And we could check in at 3 pm. We didn't show up until 4:30 or so. Why would the room not be in top shape? Really. At that point I was very shocked, but what can you do. She immediately said oh it's ready. So she gives us the keys and sends us on up to our room. We get into the elevator and you have to use your key to even get to the 4 the floor. I felt so important as if . My adrenaline was threw the roof. Well we open the door and my BFF goes rite to the bathroom. I didn't really notice anything but the window for some strange reason, when I pulled the drape open and my heart DROPPED. I saw a full brick wall and a full of garbage dumpster. Really!! We paid $435.plus for a garbage veiw. I told my BFF to come and look at this. She immediately tried to call down and NONE of the 3 phones worked. She went next door and asked the housekeeper for help. She started to worry because she could not get them to work. Finally one worked on speaker. My BFF told the lady what was going on and asked for another room for what we are paying she said sorry. But we only have rooms with double beds that face the wall and garbage dumpster. As she is talking to her we both are looking around and then start noticing how dirty the room actually was. The carpet had stains all over along with black fuzzy on the floor. We asked for a refund. When we went down stairs, it was amazing how quickly she pulled us off to the side do no one heard us say. OMG I was so disgusted. Please save your money and find a Holiday Express ( on Baldwin road ) it was $130. And it was amazing the coffee was not $4.50 a small cup. It was in the price of the room. It was Amazing. All was included not like Townsend. Money, money, money that's all they cared about is getting all of your money. They do not care who you are, just your...
Read moreI spent over $1,000 in less than 24 hours, yet the experience fell far short of what I would expect from a four-star hotel.
I grew up in Bloomfield Hills and have always considered The Townsend my go-to hotel. I was even married there over a decade ago and have often recommended it to family. Unfortunately, since the change in ownership, the service has declined significantly.
Despite two recent poor experiences, I gave it one last try a few weeks ago. Once again, I was placed in an unacceptable, noisy room across from the garage. When I asked to be moved, they offered a suite or a room on another floor. I had booked in advance specifically to secure two adjoining rooms so I could be close to family, and neither option honored that. I reluctantly accepted the suite, which felt like it was in a separate building. The relocation was a hassle, and to make matters worse, I overheard the assistant manager, Madison, speaking negatively about me, completely unprofessional! I felt as if I was staying at a motel.
The restaurant was also a letdown. It’s clear the chef has changed, and the food quality has suffered. After spending over $1,000 in under 24 hours, I was confronted by the valet, who aggressively insisted my driver move the car within five minutes, despite my kids still coming down. His tone was combative and unnecessary. Who does that at a “four star” hotel?? The reason why customers are willing to pay the high price is for convenience and to be treated with exceptional professional.
That was the final straw. The Townsend no longer feels like the welcoming, high-standard hotel it once was. I’ll be staying at the Daxton next time and hope it becomes my new go-to.
The only interaction I had with a truly professional staff member was a young lady named, Mariah. Perhaps the owner(s) should make her the...
