Disenchanted would be the best description of the female greeter at the host station upon arrival at 8:52PM on a Saturday night. Before we could state the number in out party the hostess replied there is an hour & half wait to be seated. My son then asked, won't you be closed by that time? She dryly commented, "If we put you on the list we 'HAVE' to seat you"...at which point we decided to stay. I asked if we could sit at b the bar or at a bar table & was informed the bar area is included in the wait. After 1 hour and 12 minutes we decided to check and see where we were in kine because we noticed a party of TWO walk in and be seated, since they're taking no reservations, I was confused. At this point, I was advised that precious couple accepted the bar area.....hmmm?? Could've sworn I asked that question, but ok we'll wait since there is only one party in front of us. After being seated at the bar with wet seats. We found the back-up bartender to be social, accommodating, attentive, funny, and a highly motivated server. Je absolutely made what could've been a horrible experience "worth waiting for the outcome"! By 10:39 PM we finally received our appetizer which I will simply say 'had to be returned to the kitchen". The chef/manager Immediately came out , apologized and expressed a wish to make it better. While we were having a COVID-19 distanced discussion regarding the oversight our entrees came out, so I simply asked for the appetizers to be removed from our ticket. It was at that point, almost two hours since we arrived & we hadn't eaten anything. As we began to eat our meal we noticed a few things were missing, and this time "requested" the manager. After waiting approximately four hungry minutes and no manager, we asked for him/her again, as we watched several employees wind down, and joke around near the bar back area. This is when we met Jordan Koons, Kitchen Manager. He was a pleasant surprise to a frustrating experience. I eplained what had happened earlier and now we'd been here 2 hours and were yet to eat anything. Jordan was swift, apologetic, kind & professional. Although I waited a minute to speak with him, and it was surprisingly still very busy at that hour, his steps to rectify the situation was worth its weight in crab cakes and shrimp! As you see our order of the Pappadeaux Sampler, crab cake, and calamari was well worth it! Bravo to Jordan and his navigation of an accommodating ship. Thank you for ensuring the end result of our celebratory evening was closed with smiles, GREAT seafood, and an overall satisfying late evening meal. We look forward to eating from your kitchen again soon!

✨First time guests visiting Pappadeaux Birmingham location ✨. I really appreciate the excellent grooming and attire of the waitstaff. Landon was our server, however all the staff were attentive, helpful and polite. These factors contribute to the overall dining experience. We drove 1.5 hours from Montgomery to dine here on a Monday for dinner. We made reservations for 5:30pm and upon arrival, it was not crowded and we were promptly seated. There was plenty of parking space available and it was in an appealing location. We proceeded to order the grilled oysters as an appetizer. I was extremely disappointed initially because after all the rave reviews about the shrimp and grits that is what I was expecting to order. Our waiter advised, shrimp and grits is only available for lunch. (Please keep this is mind if that is your choice for an entree). As an alternative, I ordered a *new* menu item - Shrimp and scallops risotto. I can honestly say that the flavors of this dish exceeded my expectations and I am glad this option was available! The second meal was a Pappadeaux Classic: the Atlantic Salmon Alexander. We made sure to save room for dessert after an appetizing dinner. We opted for the banana pudding after recommendations, however again were disappointed with this option. We ordered the pecan pie (which has a sweet potato filling). It was okay…nothing to write how about. I appreciated the management for comping us our appetizer fee due to the appetizer arriving at our table 45 minutes after being seated. It was also appreciated that the restaurant accepts military discount. We may consider visiting a Pappadeaux location in other cities, however it seems like their webmaster may need to update the locations since the ones in Birmingham and Atlanta are not even listed. This location is very spacious with a dining room capacity of 539.

~The Applebees of Seafood~ Wow - what a terrible experience. Our journey to Pappadeaux Seafood began when we arrived at 6:00pm (the time we made our reservation for). Although the restaurant was nearly empty at this point - they still made us wait 15-20 minutes before being seated. After sitting at our table for another 10 minutes - our server finally greeted us. When my obviously pregnant wife asked about non-alcoholic beverage options (mock tails, daiquiris, etc.) he looked at us like we were speaking a foreign language. We both ordered drinks and waited roughly 20 more minutes for them to come out. In the meantime - we went ahead and ordered some appetizers (oysters on the half shell and crab dip). When they finally came out, the oysters were literally buried in ice and covered in pluff mud (see photo below). The server looked at me like I was crazy when I complained. He then insisted he bring out a fresh order instead of comping them off the check. We went ahead and ordered the entrees - including chicken and rice for our son. When the entrees came out - we received shrimp and rice instead. At this point - it was clear that our server was having a hard time - so we stayed quiet and accepted the incorrect order. 20 minutes later he comes out with the correct order - saying he was “showing us love and doing us a favor by giving it to us for free”. Gee - thanks for giving me what I actually ordered…? Anyways - during this entire time our drinks were never refilled and dirty dishes were overflowing the table. As we were completely finished and waiting on the check - the “fresh order” of oysters finally made its way back to the table. To add insult to injury, the waiter refused to give us a few extra crackers for the crab dip without tacking $0.95 to the check. Believe it or not - I still tipped this guy 20%. Mostly because I genuinely felt bad for him and it’s obvious he’s been improperly trained. If you’re craving seafood - do yourself a favor and visit Automatic Seafood in downtown Birmingham. This place is absolute trash.

Anytime I am in Birmingham I have to stop and eat here. Often multiple times during my stay! The service is always friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. They even made suggestions to a friend of mine that had a certain food allergy. The food is wonderful each and everytime; no matter what I order it’s good to the last bite. The lobster bites are so perfectly cooked you hate to see them go. The sauce is so good that you most likely will want to use your toast to soak it up. The alligator bites are cooked full flavor and juicy to the max! The pasta Mardi Gras has always been my go to for so many reasons. Each element of the dish is cooked well and seasoned perfectly and they come together to form a melting pot of flavors aromas and just goodness. No matter the fish dish you choose it will come out flaky, juicy and full of flavor so you really can not go wrong. The calamari and artichoke are cooked so well you almost can’t tell one from the other. It’s the type of dish that once you start you won’t stop until it is all gone. Although I wish the crab dip came with pita bread instead, it is honestly so good you can just eat it with a spoon lol. I didn’t get a chance to post pics of the desserts because they were eaten so fast. The banana pudding and cheese cake are heaven on earth; the perfect ending to a great meal. Lastly, the strawberry lemonade competes any meal so give it a try to!

"VERY NICE!" On Saturday, July 20, 2024, some family members and I drove over 100 miles one-way (for over 1.5 hours) from Huntsville, Alabama, down to Birmingham, Alabama, SPECIFICALLY to dine at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen. It was a very nice experience. Situated in an upscale neighborhood, this is quite a grand establishment. Pappadeaux is very spacious and has fantastic, elegant decor. (The servers are semi-formally dressed.) Our party of TEN started our meal off with appetizers, for which we ordered the Shrimp and Crawfish Fondeaux, and the Fried Calamari and Squid. These starters were quite delicious. Additionally, the drinks (which, for me, included a Life's a Beach) and the salad that I ordered were also exceptional. Then, as my main course, I ordered the "Mississippi Catfish Opelousas" (minus the oysters), which was very good. Finally, I topped off this wonderful meal with a vanilla ice cream-topped chocolate brownie. Ummm... Yummy! 😋 So, I'd say that our foray down to Birmingham, Alabama, SPECIFICALLY to visit this establishment was definitely worth the time, effort, and money spent. Compliments to the Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen organization on a job well done. 👍 👍 G. Curtis Sunday, July 21, 2024 Edited: Monday, July 22, 2024

Where to start. My mother called this restaurant a few days ago asking if she could make a reservation for 5 today, Saturday at 5pm. Was told by whoever she spoke to on the phone they do not accept reservations. Funny, I go online to pappadeaux general site and they offer reservations until you search the Birmingham location 🫤 Anyway, we arrive around 4:30pm on a Saturday with not a single place to park. Had to drive around several times and catch someone leaving. Red flag #1. Walk in and ask how long the wait is and are told 1hr to 1 1/2 hours. Do you see why reservations are helpful? There was a patio full of dozens of people waiting for at least an hour to be seated. We did get some bar drinks while waiting and they were good. Once we finally got seated about an hour and a half later, it took a while for anyone to even come ask for our drink orders. We ordered apps and dinner at the same time and everything came at the same time. Crab dip was room temp. Shrimp and grits were good. We spend about 3 hours at this place and for the price, service just didn’t match. This was my second time coming, prob won’t come back. Be aware if you come on the weekend, wait is RIDICULOUS and they specified to my family they don’t take reservations.
