Maybe it was just a bad night for this catered meal at an event I attended. And I'm not a picky eater but this is probably THE worst meal I've ever eaten!
I wasn't the only guest who had to ask "What IS that?" for some of the foods. (That is NOT a good sign!)
Cheese buttons---some were quite burned on the bottom. Tasteless but for the seasoned croutons on top. They looked like some sort of dead fish lying in the serving dish. The topping that was spooned on? I have no idea what it was (maybe some sort of cheese sauce?) but it was runny and ran all over the plate.
Saukerkraut w/little cheese buttons (I think?)---mushy and again, quite tasteless, according to my date. I opted not to have this on my plate.
Sausage--- Were it not for these tastier morsels, the meal had nothing to offer either in taste or color. Who wants a totally bland- colored and tasteless meal?
Knoefla soup---Everyone says "oh mine/theirs is the best" and most of the time I hear "It's my own secret recipe". Keep it secret with this one. Not a repeat recipe to try to copy.
Having worked in the food/beverage/hospitality industry I understand that serving a lot of people buffet style is different and often has different outcomes than say a sit-down meal served to the diner. But this was all in all an epic fail.
Hopefully I'll get a chance to have some of their other foods at another time and maybe their in-house meals are better. Then maybe I can change my review to something better. As it stands for this first encounter: Two...
Read moreThis place used to be white house cafeteria I didn't know the name change until I went behind the till to order like before and was told to go back up front behind the till. That's when I heard the current name By the batch which didn't register with me because I called minutes earlier and asked a few questions like if we could get a extra scoop of the special? The lady said we'll see when you get here if there is a extra charge or how they wanted to do it. I was with my wife and 3 year old and we wanted a home cooked meal and that's what we got from Mom "chicken noodle casserole with cheese!" It was filling and it was homemade. The price I paid was worth it around 28.00 compared to the taco grill place in Fort Yates which served us salty taco meat, old lettuce, a bun that had to be old and slightly microwaved tasted like rubber my 3 year old wouldn't even eat. And that place was 28.00. Go get your self some home cooked meals made by Mom and don't forget I over heard Fridays there is Cheese Buttons, Knoephla and pretty much German Food. They were called Real Germans by another lady which was nice to hear would of been interesting if spoke in German! Then I might not be making this...
Read moreHighly recommend them for catering! I have ordered catering from By the Batch for many workplace events and no matter what it is, it’s always great and we get a ton of compliments. I have ordered breakfast-the egg bakes, bagels (omg the homemade bagels!) and burritos are all wonderful. For lunch, I don’t even order anything specific. I just say “Surprise me” and I have never been disappointed. The sweet trays are also fabulous. People love that it’s homemade and they tell each other “You’ve gotta try this.” When they ask where I ordered from, my answer is always the same “By the Batch.” They are easy to work with, they deliver, they are always on time and consistently deliver quality food that I’ve never gotten a single complaint about. If you need food catered for an event, you won’t be disappointed with...
