We decided to try out this small brewery in the old Laughing Sun location, after visiting Laughing Sun at their current location.
You can still order pizza from next door, so, that hasn't changed. There is popcorn to help yourself to & a sign for beer infused meat sticks - no other food. Staff were friendly and happy to supply samples and give a run down of the options.
It quickly became clear that this is a place with lots of local regulars, (with their own mugs to prove it), & a very relaxed, friendly environment where everyone (except us) seemed to know each other. There was a small stage in the back, we left right around 6pm & there wasn't entertainment at that time. There are a few round tables that seat between 2-8 people and a standard bar top, which was apparently the place to be with standing room only remaining.
We opted for a 2 seater and sampled a few brews. I went all in on the butter beer, which I regretted about halfway through. Don't get me wrong, it delivered exactly what it promised, which got to be a bit much. If you've a sweet tooth, this one is for you - very butterscotch forward, no hoppiness. My next choice was the winterweizen, which was on the money & probably where I should've started.
In all, we had 4 brews & several samples at $29 All of them were balanced & hit the descriptions.
This feels like a place where someone may feel inclined to hug you - by which I mean everyone seemed happy & very comfortable... almost like family without the fighting. I'd certainly recommend giving them a try, maybe even getting your own mug if you're...

Despite most places being closed, a dedicated and hospitable brewer took us in, serving us great beer and ensuring our pizza order at the neighboring spot was placed before closing. The brewer generously shared insights into the brewing process, exceeding our expectations in hospitality, beer quality and overall enjoyment. Gideons Brewery, beyond just a name, exemplified a sense of community, making our night in Bismarck truly special.
The highlight of the evening was when, despite the brewer announcing last call upon our arrival, I ended up enjoying two pints, a brewery tour, a whole pizza, and a variety of samples before we departed. Nestled in our snug station wagon converted into a bed on wheels for the night, I savored a delightful can of prickly pear margarita from Gideons, reflecting on how our evening would have involved car-stove Mac and cheese if not for the exceptional kindness we experienced at this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreReally disappointing, this used to be my favorite bar. My friend and I used to stop in regularly, but life happened and I wasn't able to stop in for about 2 months. On returning, my favorite bartender had left and the new bartenders were terrible. On 3 separate occasions I had stopped in with 2-4 friends so we could drink and play chess, and on all 3 occasions not once did the bartender come over and take our order. The bartender would even make eye contact with us but never once stopped having conversations with the people seated at the bar to come over so we could get drinks. It's disappointing that the atmosphere has shifted to "unless you're a mug club member, your patronage is...
