We celebrated two birthdays in BlackHawk this past weekend and all stayed at the Ameristar. We made reservations for a party or 8, and when we arrived, we were asked for my phone number and told we would get a text when our table was ready. No biggie. Went to the casino bar for pre dinner drinks. 20 mins later received the text. Some of our party was settling up at the casino bar so the other half of us went to the restaurant to secure our table. This is where it went south. We were met at the host stand by Ennis. A tiny man with on a giant power trip. He was instantly rude about the rest of our party not being present and when we explained that they were paying a tab and not far behind us, he rolled his eyes and motioned over to our table to go seat ourselves. Minutes later, the rest of our party joined us. We were again scolded by Ennis for them arriving later than us. Everyone kind of chuckled because it almost seemed comical. Our server, Megan, was excellent and the food was good. I had the prime rib and it was cooked well and we all enjoyed our meal. We ordered desserts for the two bdays in our group, which arrived w lit candles, so naturally we sang Happy Birthday to our family members. Ennis ran over and immediately hushed us and scolded us again, saying he had other tables in the restaurant and we needed to be quiet. The two tables next to us piped in and said it was their bdays too and they appreciated us including them in our singing. Ennis was incredibly rude and continued on his tirade. We are a group who has all been at one time in the hospitality business, and I myself was a restaurant owner. This is not how you treat people who are spending a lot of money in your establishment, or any customer at all for that matter. And you work in a casino restaurant, where people are traveling to have a good time. It’s not the Flagstaff house in Boulder for crying out loud. And we weren’t rude or out of the norm. We were a party of 8 adults celebrating a bday. Two of our other family members arrived during dinner and came over to say hello, and Ennis was suddenly there, berating them and telling them they could not stop to say hello. So ofd they went, feeling embarrassed and confused. The saving grace for this experience was our server Megan. Who made us feel welcome and was very attentive and a wonderful server. She looked embarrassed by Ennis’ actions and apologized to us for our mistreatment. Sadly, we won’t be back to this place. Ennis is not doing your...
Read moreI don’t like leaving poor reviews, but my husband and I had dinner here last night, and I was rather taken aback at the Chicken Parmesan that was served to me. I had to take a picture AND a video because I couldn’t believe they would serve this to anyone and am convinced that there was covert racism in play here. Not only was the chicken piece small, it was also undercooked. We called the server and asked if this was what their regular chicken parm looked like. She replied that she also was surprised at how small the piece was and that the dish didn’t ‘look right’; which brings up the question - if it didn’t look right, why did she bring it to us? Clearly she assumed we wouldn’t know that we were being served a sub par dish. Was this conveyed to the chef as well? She saw me take a picture and immediately offered to replace the dish for free, and even offered to add a dessert, which we appreciated, but it didn’t take away from the main issue. My husband and I are educated and informed professionals. And while we don’t wear our skin color on our sleeves, we do recognize racially motivated micro aggressions. The third picture was the replacement dish. Why did it look so different from the first one? Ameristar and Fireside Kitchen management- I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you are not aware of this kind of behavior from your staff, but I hope this will...
Read moreNew review...Dinner at Fireside was wonderful. This time I had the salmon and partner did a burger. Italian Wedding soup was amazing. I brought half of it home and I'm enjoying it right now. Server was friendly, effusive, attentive, but not obtrusive.
Partner had the salmon and loved it. He reports the citrus gave good flavor, and they were careful to cook it well done for him. He even ate the shiitake mushrooms, not his usual m/o.
I took a risk and ordered the Filipino adobo pork belly. I was expecting a spicy sauce, but it was more sweet and sour. Pork belly was new to me, fattier than a pork chop, but more tender and tasty. The spinach accompaniment was a delightful contrast, earthy and garlicky. The dish is usually served on a bed of mashed potatoes, but I was hungry for fries. Next time I'm going to eat it their way. The best thing--I cook like a madman at home. Because of this meal, Filipino adobo is my next cuisine challenge.
Server was wonderful, and the whole staff was helpful after I knocked a glass of wine onto the floor. Fortunately, the glass was almost empty, but the damage was done.
Speaking of wine, I enjoyed 1 3/4 glasses of a Kendall Jackson pinot noir. Nothing fancy, but definitely a decent glass of wine. All in all, Fireside was a delightful start to what became a...
