Having been to Gillie's numerous times and enjoyed great brunch I'm sad to say I will never go there again after this past Sunday. I was in Draper at 1:15 Sunday and called to see if my 2 friends and I would be seated if we arrived before 2 pm when they closed. The lady I spoke to assured me if I arrived at 1:59 and there was no wait we would be seated. We hopped in the car, parked and arrived to Gillie's at 1:55 and asked if we could be seated. A young girl said that they had stopped seating at 1:50 today, I explained to her that I called earlier and was assured that if we arrived prior to 2 pm we would still be seated and that if this was not the case then we would have stayed in Draper. She began to state that we would be seated when a boisterous curly haired gentleman stepped in and pretty much told us that they were busy earlier and now did not want anymore customers. After a short discussion I came to realize that even if we did the opportunity to sit and eat my friends and I would not be guaranteed that reassurance that our food or service would be respected. So we chose to eat at Boudreaux's and had a wonderful meal and respectful service. I don't typically take the time to write a review but to tell someone that they should make the 40 min drive to eat and would be served then go back on it because "we were really busy earlier" is unacceptable. where I work we have hours of operation, if someone comes in the door prior to close we will accommodate them and treat them with as much respect as if they came in right when we opened. Especially if they called 45 min prior and asked if it would be ok to come at that time. I love the food at Gillie's and I've had many great experiences there however I will never go back after the treatment I received this Sunday and the undeserved illogical disrespect from their curly haired waiter. Clearly work ethic and dignity is lost amongst this...
Read moreHere's a breakdown of our recent visit to Gillie's. It was a mixed experience, highlighting some critical issues that need addressing. Here’s a detailed account:
Positives:
Food Quality: The food was delicious, and the portions were generous. The cook did a fantastic job with the meal, and we thoroughly enjoyed the flavor and presentation with both of our meals. Friendly Staff Member: Only one staff member working the front was friendly and made a positive impression.
Negatives:
Hygiene Practices: Unfortunately, I noticed several hygiene issues that are concerning. One of the staff members came in, went straight to the kitchen without washing his hands, and touched his hair multiple times without washing his hands afterwards. Similarly, one of the servers frequently touched his hair but didn’t wash his hands or wear gloves when bringing food to the tables. I worked in the restaurant industry for 15 years and do competitive cooking. Proper hygiene is crucial, especially in a restaurant setting, and staff should wash their hands after touching their face or hair and wear gloves when handling food. Maybe it's a lack of training or either staff that just don't care.
Service: The overall service was disappointing. The server only checked in on us once and was not very friendly IMHO! Additionally, when we went to pay, the lady at the counter was on the phone and walked away for a couple of minutes before attending to us, which felt unprofessional.
Staff Training: It seems there might be a lack of training or enforcement of hygiene and customer service standards.
Conclusion: While the food at Gillie's is excellent, the experience was marred by poor hygiene practices and subpar service. I hope management stresses the importance of good hygiene practices. Until then, I’m hesitant to return and would not recommend it to others based on this experience. Hopefully that will change...
Read moreI love breakfast food and worked in a breakfast restaurant myself as a waitress for 2 years, so I understand busy Sundays and food mess ups. Since it was my birthday I was so excited to go try this breakfast restaurant out. I visited last Sunday 9/15/19. The wait was fine only about 15 minutes. We got in the waiter was nice and did everything in a timely manner. My problem was the food. We ordered a lot of food and were very hungry as it was 11am and have not eaten yet. I timed the whole process at first in a joking manner. At 30 minutes my boyfriends omelet came out and my side of egg whites came out. I heard nothing from the server about why the food was taking so long and he told me eventually that there was a mix up. It took another 15 minutes for my burrito and my boyfriends yogurt to come out then another 10 for my potatoes and my boyfriends fruit. I was also disappointed in the taste of the burrito, but I was starving and ate it. I personally like my food to be eaten all together and not be waiting for parts of it. There was a table of 6 that came in and sat down after we put our order in and they finished eating and left before I got all of my food. I do not think this is acceptable regardless of how busy you are on a Sunday. The food should of been prioritized. To worsen my whole experience, when I was checking out the lady with dark hair (I did not get her name, but I wish I did) asked me how my meal was besides the wait to get seated. I said awful. She said that it was a busy Sunday. I told her I worked at a breakfast restaurant too and that it never took 50 minutes for my food to come out. She then proceeded to make excuses and came off rather aggressive and rude saying that they had a small kitchen and a lot of tickets. This interaction is the main reason I will not be returning due to her Overall, I was very disappointed in this restaurant and will not...
