For having such a good reputation, I was extremely disappointed. We did have reservations, which was good. It was not busy at all when we got there and we were seated quickly. We ordered an artichoke dip for the table. We usually scarf a dip down while waiting, but this one was terrible. It was very vinegary, almost sour. None of us liked it and sent it back to the kitchen. It took our server about 15 minutes to get back to us to make our order. When we finally got to order we had it down pat, chicken tenderss for the kids, mashed potatoes for one and fruit for the other, classic cheeseburger, no tomato or pickle, with fries, chicken club, no pesto mayo w onion rings, another club with fries, cheese steak and fries. All right, let's start at the top of the list. Chicken tenders were room temp, the mashed potatoes had so much pepper in them my grand daughter couldn't eat them. The only things the kids got that was correct and/ or good was the canned fruit dumped into the bowl. The burger came with a tomato, and when we told them about it, the guy delivering the food reached onto the plate, moved the onions off and grabbed the tomato with his fingers. The two club sandwiches got switched and the fries and onion rings were very cold. Maybe it was just a bad day, new staff or the other people that said the place was great had different taste and expectations than we did. The place didn't get very busy until right before we were getting ready to leave. If I ever get back to Blacksburg I may give them another try. But right now, I literally have a bad taste in my mouth...
Read moreIn all fairness we did not have reservations on a game day weekend... however we called to see how busy they would be at 5 PM for dinner. Was told that it shouldn't "be too bad" right at 5. Got there at 455 and put our names on the list for table of 3 ( 2 adults and 1 child). Was told 10 to 15 minutes so we decided to wait. Had 4 year old with us who sat as quietly as can be expected considering it was dinner time. At 530 (35 minutes after being told 10 to 15) I went up to the host and asked if he knew how much longer. He stated shouldn't be too much longer another 10 to 15 minutes. He said your third in line and that its hard to judge how long people will spend at a table. Obviously when he put our names down it was clear that the restuarant was full and essentially there was a full first seating and would have to wait until the next seating if not already booked by reservation. In what world does someone go to a restuarant and spend 10 to 15 minutes for a complete dinner. They should have obviously said you missed first seating and we would have went elsewhere right away. We figured we would have same result everywhere since we wasted 40 minutes for a table at prime dinner time. Not much of an apology just the same thing said o, its hard to tell how long it will be. 45 minutes isn't anywhere near close to 10 to 15. Much to our surprise went to another restaurant and was seated right away and had a...
Read moreAs a small business owner, I don’t give a shout out to any business, unless it is truly worthy of raving. On our travels, it was my job to study the map in route for an independent/local restaurant. After many searches, down to the population of the town, I decided we should give Lefty’s a go. I’m usually right, but this one was the star! Holy smokes! The food set the bar for any regional competitor. I had the chef special: mahi mahi with mango salsa and chorizo risotto. Honestly, the side of zucchini and squash was basic garnish. The main focus knocked my tastebuds out of the park. The sriracha, honey and pepper flakes christened the palette. The mahi mahi was perfectly cooked, perfectly blackened outside, perfectly flakey and moist on the inside. The mango salsa with the fresh cilantro and purple onions was the perfect balance of color and taste to merge flavor to complement the fish and risotto. My husband has the salmon from the main menu and he was very satisfied with his entree. I might have been persuaded by the name, “Lefty’s”, my husband and I are both left handed, but I am so pleased, incredibly pleased with this unknown, exploratory culinary experience. Highly recommend you give’em a go. I should also mention that our college student micro biology server,...
