Ok let me start off by saying I'm in customer service/Relations. So when I say that I know the importance of giving and receiving good customer service! So I took some of my family member's to this restaurant,That I personal have been to a few times when I come home to Chicago to visit. The food and service has been up until this visit good. Now on this date 6/14/15 we where celebrating my sister being newly Engaged and decided to patronize the Big Apple Pancake house thinking that I would get the same quality of food & service that I have gotten in the past! Well far from it! They were busy, that is no reason to slack on good service because your busy! That's something you should be prepared for.So 1st the waitress keep feeling the need to tell us when we asked or ordered extra this or upgrade to a certain food item the price w/an attitude! so after a few times of that I had to let her know "we didn't need her to keep doing that"! Whatever it is we're ordering we can more than afford to purchase! But thanks for the Constance update on the price! 2nd since I was treating and stated that to the waitress early on to give me the bill you would think that my order of all should have not been compromised! Anyway the eggs I asked for scrabbled med w/american cheese mixed in,came back w/no cheese! I sent that back than I got eggs with cheese that was underneath the eggs,so at this point I just didn't even eat the eggs! Sidebar she asked for the Org: no cheese back and it look those were the same eggs just shredded cheddar at the bottom of the eggs! 3rd some of my family said their food was barely warm when she brought it out but,did not want to complain and didn't want me to complain because they know how I'am especially when it comes to good service and I'm spending my! But who isn't! So I went up to the manager John I believe is his name very professional and Empathetic to the fact they were busy and the waitress seemed over whelmed but,That is no reason to ever slack on quality of service and professionalism! And check what this idiot say's to me "we you sent this back twice which was not true and proceeded to tell me how expensive eggs are! Really! Did you all not make a conscious decision to be in the "Restaurant business?! Then he went to tell me there was no way the food was barely warm when they got it to us as soon as it came up! Again I say Really?! since he wasn't the person who brought the food to us and the fact they were crazy busy is there not a possibility that the food didn't get to us right when it came out the kitchen?! As far as sending the eggs back a couple of times that's a no go on my be half,As much as I eat out if something comes back wrong after the 1st time and they/I send it back! I will not eat it and have it removed from my bill because I know what can happen when a waitress/cook gets frustrated when you continue to send something back even in the most high end of places! You will not be adding any "special sauces or ingredients" to my food! So in short he removed the eggs the bill was like $78/$79 something like that, I left her an $8. tip which was a little less than 15% which she didn't deserve but,Hell she works minimum wage and lives on her tips. Again I'm in the service industry my clientele is just way higher end and my Gratuities start at 20%. So even though she was frazzled, had an attitude and the food was not what it has been in the past which is why we came there in the 1st place. I couldn't just not leave nothing when I'm so fortunate. As an manager he should have discounted something for the below par experience we had! Oh and by the way we weren't the only with issues just as we were leaving another group of people ask to speak to Management experiencing similar bad service! In short the majority of business appears to be people of Natural color not the fake tan! So don't take that money being spent in your restaurant for granted! Me personal I will take my money somewhere else! there are too many good breakfast places in Illinois! And you never know "Who" is...
Read moreFirst of all we (my family) have been eating at the Big Apple restaurant for approximately 20yrs(I think it was called the Looking Glass). And always enjoyed the restaurant and food. On July 2nd we had a party of eleven and ate there for the second time in about a month, our waitress was very friendly but forgetful, which was not a problem it was busy there, we all have those kind of days. She forgot my order, forgot I didn't want coffee when my food finally came, forgot my pancakes. Still no problem. The problem came when one of our party ordered a steak medium, not well or medium well (it was well). When this was brought to her attention, she told him that's not what he said (it was, I was sitting next to him). We were then informed by the waitress he'll have to eat it, that they don't re-cook steak and wouldn't. (none of it had been eaten the tip was sliced revealing it was well done). We asked for the manager two other people came before the owner came out. He informed us the same, cause the steak cost him more then he charges for it (we all stopped eating cause that's not true) he was very agitated and offered sausage patties instead of STEAK. When he was told no that's OK he became more agitated and angrily asked well what do you want me to do, again he was told that's OK, he then said just pay for the eggs and hashed browns (that had one fork full missing) like he was doing us a favor, that one meal should have been taken off the bill seeing we were spending over two hundred dollars. He never apologized for their mistakes. We felt disrespected and couldn't wait to get out of there. Hate to say it but we're done with the Big Apple restaurant. This is what happens to a successful business they forgetful who and what made them successful (CUSTOMER...
Read moreVery Disappointed and Sad About Our Visit Today
I was really sad and disappointed after our visit today. I came with my husband and daughter. I ordered pancakes with eggs and bacon, my daughter had a turkey club sandwich, and my husband got steak and eggs.
When the food arrived, everything looked great—mine and my daughter’s meals were fine. But when my husband cut into his steak and gave me the first bite, we quickly realized something was wrong. At first, the A1 sauce masked it, but then that sour, spoiled taste kicked in. It was awful. We stopped eating immediately and called the server over.
She went to speak with the manager and returned to say, “Well, we don't recommend getting another steak.” That was incredibly frustrating—we weren’t trying to get another steak. He just wanted his eggs and hashbrowns, and we wanted the issue acknowledged.
At the end of our meal, we even ordered sandwiches to go. But when I went to the register and told the manager how disappointed I was, all he said was, “Yeah, yeah.” No apology. No concern that they served spoiled meat.
This experience really left a bad taste in our mouths—literally and figuratively. We’ve had better experiences here before, but today was...
