I took some time out of my schedule to stop in as Da Vinci’s second-ever customer on the first day they opened. Gosh, if I were working in a restaurant, I’d be intimidated on my first day, let alone the first day of business itself...but I must confidently assert that Da Vinci is almost guaranteed to be Bloomington’s next DeAngelo’s, King Dough, or even Farm. My very first experience was excellent.

The atmosphere holds a true “industrial-chic” vibe (see literally first-ever photos!) that caters to a diverse range of guests—it’s an environment I’ve always wished Bloomington could see more of. The space behind the kitchen counter is authentic-looking and feels open, not to mention the dining area almost feels breezy and simply fresh from having just opened. Looove the rustic decor, furnishings, and walls/ceilings/etc! Wide, inviting windows give diners a panoramic view of 3rd Street, and outside seating is a perfect option in comfy summer weather.

The service and food were, on average, great! Take note, if I’m being honest: I would probably rate four stars if I had eaten before and given the restaurant time to get into a groove. But readers, this was their first day ever. For such a stressful period, Da Vinci as a whole really performed impressively. All waitstaff and “floaters” (common roles when staff are still figuring out needs in the restaurant) were cheerful, excited about starting work, attentive, and (too) apologetic about uncertainties or mistakes. Mollie was a wonderful server, accommodating me for a special request for garlic bread I didn’t know was exclusive at that point! Her positive attitude and energy enhanced my experience. Antwon (please forgive any incorrect spelling!) also delivered fantastic service, providing a to-go bag and a few menu items. He and Mollie, especially when kinks are worked out, will make Da Vinci amazing!!

The food, now, was improvable in my case, in my opinion. Overall, the meal was tasty and satisfying, do NOT get me wrong. I did observe perhaps a sloppily-made margarita pizza; the cheese tended to completely slide off the pie, and I had to scoop up cheese and sauce detached from the pizza itself. It was super authentic and deservingly Neapolitan, but the chefs were still learning, and that’s how they should’ve been! The garlic bread was really intriguing and offered delicious flavor, although I wasn’t expecting so much ricotta (or burrata?) on top. I’m not a huge ricotta fan, but it still was awesome to get a taste of their bread. I’ll order it again for sure! I also need to say: on their first day, they only served two types of pizza and a side salad, but their full menu right now looks spectacular. All ingredients are purposefully fresh (à la King Dough) and made to equal cuisine in Italy.

Overall, Da Vinci is indeed figuring out the best ways they’ll operate for many many years to come. But they will compete, I’m telling you that. This atmospheric spot under new apartment complexes will attract hungry foodies all around Bloomington, locals and tourists and new residents living in the condos above. Thrilling, incredible experience on opening day. I’ll return very soon! Come to...

Although I’ve always been a little disappointed that this restaurant doesn’t have calamari pasta, lasagna, or carbonara, I have to give it some well-deserved praise. This place is undoubtedly the No.1 restaurant in town, highly regarded by my schoolmates from various countries. It has even made me fall in love with Italian cuisine.

When I first tried their pizza and pasta, I initially found the flavors quite ordinary and wasn’t used to the strong dairy and cheese flavors, which felt a bit heavy to me. However, as I took bite after bite, I gradually became captivated by its unique taste. I completely fell in love with the rich aroma of olive oil, basil, and tomato sauce, as well as the refreshing yet creamy Burrata cheese.

It was this restaurant that truly introduced me to the charm of Italian cuisine, to the point that when we went to New York during winter break, we specifically planned a visit to an Italian restaurant.

Their pasta selection is my absolute favorite, and Shrimp Penne and Pollo are undoubtedly my top picks! (Although I always ask the staff to swap the pasta for fettuccine, as I find it chewier and better at holding onto the sauce.) Both dishes have a creamy sauce base that is rich in dairy flavor but never feels overly heavy. The Shrimp Penne has just the right touch of tomato acidity to balance out the richness of the cream, making the dish refreshing yet indulgent. The Pollo, on the other hand, is packed with intense spice aromas—mushrooms, sundried tomatoes, and pesto cream sauce combine to create an incredibly flavorful dish, with every bite bursting with complex layers of taste.

Although I wouldn’t call myself a pizza lover, their Margherita Pizza truly impressed me! The crust is perfectly crispy and charred, while the homemade tomato sauce—free from any pre-made ingredients—delivers a naturally sweet and slightly tangy flavor that pairs beautifully with the rich cheese.

Additionally, I have to give a special shoutout to their Burrata as an appetizer! It may look unassuming at first, but the moment you take a bite, it’s a delightful surprise. The bread is toasted to be slightly crispy yet chewy, and when paired with the refreshing, creamy Burrata cheese, it’s an absolute match made in heaven! Drizzled with their special sweet-and-sour sauce, the flavors instantly elevate to another level—complex, layered, and utterly addictive. My partner and I were blown away when we first tried it; it’s definitely a hidden gem on their menu, and I highly...

Ordered a pizza, only one size available. Online ordering went smoothly. Pick up was quick and efficient. Almost. I wait before I was out the door. The toppings was high quality, good food. My only complaint is that the crust was either undercooked in the center and tough outer edge. Definitely had much better pizza elsewhere. It's like they arranged great food for other options and having a pizza was an afterthought. The high quality toppings for other things is used for the pizza and the crust is... Well... Needs work to compete with all the other options in town. I only got a pizza since my friend was wanting pasta and I wanted to try new things. So, yeah, get other options at this location. I am sure it is great quality. Just avoid ordering a pizza and look elsewhere if that's what you are hungry for.

Updated: Ordered over the phone. Gave them my name. They didn't put my name on the order. I came in, they respondd to an older gentelman. Then the two peopel up front stood there looking at the girl's phone and socialized. I stood there for awhile, then sat down, ten minutes goes by before the male approaches me and asks what I'm there for. Ten minutes of being ignored and they expect a tip for poor service. Amazing.

The only reason I order from here is becuase a friend of mine loves their food. The poor service needs to be addressed in that it feels like the front staff is just there to hang out...

Da Vinci Pizza and Pasta in downtown Bloomington is a charming Italian restaurant that offers a delightful dining experience. With its brick oven for pizza and a well-curated wine selection, it's a haven for Italian cuisine enthusiasts. We were drawn to Da Vinci Pizza and Pasta because of their vegetarian options, which proved to be a fantastic choice for my wife. As a meat lover, I decided to try the Bucatini Meatballs. The dish had a good, classic flavor, but I was slightly disappointed to find the noodles broken or cut. However, this minor drawback wasn't substantial enough to detract a star from my overall experience. My wife, on the other hand, had an absolute winner with her dish, the Caprese Zoodles. The chefs concocted a creamy pesto sauce that was so delectable, we wished we could take it home in a bottle! In fact, we even used our garlic bread to mop up every last drop of it. Although we didn't have the opportunity to sample their pizza on this visit, we are eagerly looking forward to returning to Da Vinci Pizza and Pasta to indulge in their pizza offerings. Based on our enjoyable experience, we are confident that the pizza will be equally outstanding. Overall, Da Vinci Pizza and Pasta is a hidden gem in downtown Bloomington. With its inviting atmosphere, delectable dishes, and accommodating vegetarian options, it's the perfect place for Italian food enthusiasts.
