This hotel is typical of many new hotels; great staff, nice appointments, rooms designed/constructed by someone who never stays in hotels and is over seven feet tall at least. First, the room. Tall bed, to be expected. Armoir is not connected to the wall and very unstable - this is a lawsuit waiting to happen. It rocks when you pull the door open to get to the closet, and may fall on someone. I hope not, but this is a serious design flaw. Additional issues: There were no hangers provided (to be fair the hotel had only been open a month), but if there had been, the bar itself sits at a little over 6 1/2 feet. Who can reach that? The safe is on the lowest portion, almost ground level; in order to use it a person would either have to kneel or crouch and bend. Many people staying here will be parents of students, and older people who can't do either easily. The lighting was surprisingly good, kudos for that. Nice to have a Nespresso machine on a pullout shelf, but impossible to pull it out because whoever designed the plugs made it so in order to plug it in, it had to be too tight - trying to pull the machine out to make coffee was impossible. Making it without pulling it out meant moving the shelf above it (glass) in order to open the Nespresso capsule area. Also, in a hotel this expensive I'd expect either creamer (even the fake creamer) or a small milk left in the fridge (nice fridge btw), not the powdered stuff. There is no desk area unless you count the area above the clothing drawers (nowhere to put your legs) or the area next to the skinny armoir, facing two mirrors at angles. That isn't large enough for a laptop and mouse. There is no desk chair. The easy chair was comfortable and once we moved the ottoman chair from the mirror area, nice to sit in with feet up. The "Romeo and Juliet balcony" facing an air shaft (with the Graduate Hotel next door) is a bit concerning; a child would be in danger. I'm all for balconies but because it's so secluded underneath, a bit dangerous. The sliding doors for our balcony were huge, and if they'd faced anywhere but an air shaft, would have been nice and sunny in winter, and breeze part of the year. Unfortunately, the beautiful drapes hanging down from the ceiling were literally ceiling to floor height, with the hand bar one usually uses to part them or close them completely unreachable. Again, design flaws. Bathroom: Good lighting. Nice mirrors. Because of the length of the sink area, they had to compromise on toilet size, and it was one of the smallest toilet seats/bowls we'd ever seen in a hotel. A large person would be severely cramped. Shower was lovely though water pressure not great (and we were on a lower floor). There should be instructions posted for how to use it though, since there are 3 options (waterfall, standard shower, hand shower). Also, the door to the shower, massive, leaked. I don't see a way around that other than installing edging. No matter how we faced the shower heads, they ping onto the door area and leak water all over the floor. In lieu of a restaurant there is a bagel place attached and the option to put in a breakfast order, then leave it hanging from your room door before 11pm. Breakfasts were excellent, though you have to go down and pick them up. I highly recommend the orange juice, fresh squeezed and very good. The bagel lox cream cheese likewise excellent; we actually bought extras to take to the airport for our flight. The staff were beyond helpful. I cannot praise them highly enough. Every single one of them was friendly and knowledgable. I would not recommend this hotel if you have small children with you, because of the armoire issue. Personally I wouldn't stay there again because of the lack of workspace, and being unable to hang clothing without requiring a step stool (and I am 5'8"), or use the safe with any modicum of comfort. However, if you don't care about those things, it's an alternative to the others in town, the mattress and comforters are comfortable enough, and although pricey, it's in an excellent area for...
Read morePOSH is well, posh. Phenomenal and such a great addition for IU families and visitors. While being one of the most visually STUNNING boutique hotels I have ever visited, the STAFF was utlitmately the most impressive part of our stay, although the MATTRESS & BEDDING made a strong case for themselves (easily the best night’s sleep I’ve had in quite a while. Back to the staff though, to a person they felt seasoned, cohesive, seemingly present everywhere when needed, but never in the way or overshadowing the art, style, vibe and sense of place throughout… a huge accomplishment for any hotel, much less one that had only been open for 2-weeks at the time of our stay.
LOCALLY-OWNED and operated by a Bloomington alumnus, the pride and intention is felt in every detail and around every corner, including a stunning collection of ART, featuring many pieces from the owner’s late brother, giving the place a sense of genuine warmth and connection that just cannot be fabricated by any of the national boutique hotel groups.
The SAUNA, outdoor terraces, Cignetti room, vault, pockets of seating throughout, shower fixtures, toilet seats (you’ll see), room furnishings, player piano and striking front desk all deserve honorable...
Read moreStayed here on a complete crunch-time whim the weekend of Halloween, obviously town was booked up. There was one room left here and we managed to snag it off booking.com. It looked great, sure, but it was brand new and seemed too good to be true. No shot this place was this nice, this clean, and so affordable + close to the main spots in downtown Bloomington. We go to check in and bam, it's one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at. I've traveled to Tokyo, New York, Chicago, Vancouver,; stayed in several absolutely incredible hotels, but the decor, fit and finish, quality of the spaces, personable guest services, and incredible location just blew us out of the water at The Posh.
Please, if you're in town and are willing to make the accommodations, do it. The Posh is incredible. When staying in a hotel in Bloomington now, we won't stay anywhere else. It just wouldn't be the Posh. Go see for yourself, this is the real deal for boutique hotels (there's complimentary bagel service that I won't explain here but that's the kind of thing you're getting into, this place is just so nice.). Do yourself a favor and stay here,...
