I don’t really leave reviews often, but this most recent visit of ours was a horrible experience. We live really close to this restaurant and in the summer/spring time we walk to the restaurant because it is so close to home for us. Anyways the visit started off normal, but not for long. We sat down in Gabby’s section. She walked past us and rolled her eyes. We are a gay couple and this will come up later. We start off getting the maple latte drink on the special menu that is at the end of the table. She doesn’t even attempt to bring out any of the drinks. Other people brought them to us one by one. Then she comes over and says “what do you guys want?” In a snarky voice. My boyfriend ordered the vanilla oatmeal with no blueberries and she chuckled and rolled her eyes. Then she just looks at me. I then proceed with “may I please have the meat scramble” and she cut me off and said “you want everything” again in the snarky voice. I then continued “with goetta and sausage.” To which she replied with “side?” And I couldn’t even finish the word potatoes without her ripping the menu out of my hand and walking away. I asked her for sweet potatoes before she exited the room and she acknowledged. She didn’t even bring out the food and she didn’t check on us once until we were done eating, but checked in on us by yelling across the room saying “yall good!?” (If she had checked on us I would have told her that my meal is wrong because she walked away before I could finish ordering) And walked away before we could answer. She was nice to everybody else in the room who appeared to be straight. She then slammed the receipt down with our card and walked away mumbling/whispering “have a good day.” And that was the end of our interaction.
We come here very often and have had multiple loyalty cards, but this takes the cake for our worst restaurant experience we have ever had. Despite the service we still tipped over 20% because we understand that it’s the holidays and its stressful as we have both worked in the restaurant business. We hope to never experience this again at...
Read moreSleepy Bee was extremely busy when we went during Sunday brunch time, but the staff were very friendly and as attentive as possible during that crazy rush. We sat at the bar to avoid the wait for a table, which was super enjoyable - the sunlight streaming in from the skylight, watching the bartender make the seasonal tropical mimosas and specialty coffees. My oat milk latte with their house made hazelnut syrup was beautiful and delicious, and my husband deeply enjoyed his macchiato. The menu is filled with lots of flavorful options, but I ended up getting the Broakley with their red potatoes, and my husband got the Blue Ash Smash with potatoes as well, and a side of goetta and coconut ginger sweet potato soup to try. The milk bun on my sandwich was fresh and soft with a slightly crispy outside, and the bacon was cooked to perfection (as was the over easy egg). The sweet potato soup was packed with flavor - it was smokey, thick, and creamy. We were full to bursting by the time we left (which is not often the case with small breakfast/lunch places) and we were more than satisfied with our food, service, and overall experience....
Read moreI live within walking distance of Sleepy Bee Blue Ash, LOVE Breakfast, and I really wish I had all the same good things to say as some of these other reviewers. It's possible I've been spoiled from having lived in Northside for the past several years - with Melt (in its original eclectic state) and Blue Jay - a perfect greasy-but-not-too-greasy spoon diner. My feelings about breakfast places is that traditional breakfasts are so good, that if you're going to mess with them, you better be one heck of a chef. Some of the omelette combinations sounded okay, but the menu specified no substitutions. So I was unable to find a way to have both avocado and feta on an omelette. Dumb. Finally I settled on just a simple eggs, goetta, toast plate. The eggs were fine (and my husband said the coffee was very good). The goetta was dry. The butter wouldn't melt into the toast. In the end, my husband and I each just got traditional eggs, toast, meat meals with coffee/tea, and the check was $28. I don't know. It's just too much for a mediocre breakfast - I don't think the seasoning in the ketchup is...
