Not awful, but definitely not great like so many of these reviews would have you believe. After seeing it rated so high on Google, we decided to try out this place. We have eaten at just about every other restaurant in Bluffton, so we were excited about a yummy breakfast on a Sunday morning. Came in at 10:50am and saw that it was busy, but we managed to get a table pretty much right away. 50's diner type of place, kinda neat. The waitress came over and got our drink order, asked us if we were ready. We asked if we could still get breakfast and she said yes. We placed our orders and 5-10 minutes later one of the guys behind the counter came out and said it was past time for breakfast. Apparently, even on Sunday when folks are going to church or going out for a late breakfast, they stop breakfast at 11am. We told him we'd already placed our orders before 11. He looked confused and went back to the chef, who then came out and said he could do our orders except he couldn't do our pancakes or hash browns, but could substitute them for french fries. Odd, but that was fine with us and we thanked him for accommodating the rest of our meal. 15-20 minutes later, they called us up to get our orders. French fries were tiny shoe string fries that were super greasy and didn't have much flavor. Omelets were bland and the bacon (at Bacon Diner nonetheless) wasn't even remotely crispy. We seriously questioned if the bacon was even cooked all the way, as all of ours was limp and chewy. Everything was pretty bland and tasted like stuff you'd buy at Sam's Club. The creamer for our coffee was an open (lid missing) carton of creamer that was left out on our table after the previous diners finished and the table was cleaned for us, which seemed pretty unsanitary. Who knows who put what in it or if it had been there since 6am. Overall, it was definitely not anywhere near as tasty as we'd really hoped and anticipated. While we sat there trying to make the best of it as we ate what we could, we watched a total of 12 separate patrons walk in and be told breakfast was over, no exceptions, and all 12 of them turned right back around and walked back out. I get that you want to have breakfast and lunch hours, but when the name of your restaurant is "Bacon Diner" I'd think that at very least the breakfast hours would be extended on Sundays. Folks don't tend to get up and out to breakfast before 10-11am on Sundays and we watched literally hundreds of dollars in sales turn back around and walk out in the short 45 minutes or hour we were there, all because it was too late for the chef to crack an egg or make some pancakes. In any case, we tried it and wanted to love it but it just wasn't great. Staff was nice enough, but we likely won't be...
Read moreFantastic find for a late breakfast. The name says it all. Classic diner decor and furnishings. Very clean and comfortable. The bacon part of the name - order something with bacon in it. Ours was cooked perfectly and super tasty and salty. The music was fun, a mix of 60s for the most part. When you walk in, pick a seat. Grab a pen and a paper menu then just checkmark what you want. Any questions, just ask your server. Service is fast and friendly. Beverages were quickly served. Hubby ordered a traditional breakfast of over-medium eggs (cooked perfectly) bacon and home fries. I had a huge omelet filled with onion, ham and bacon. Cooked perfectly with a lot of filling. No skimping here. The only slight downfall was the white toast that was a bit thin. Texas toast would have been awesome. We enjoyed and will be back to...
Read moreCASH ONLY! They DO have an ATM on site. My husband and I stopped here for a breakfast date. I love the retro atmosphere, and the food was delicious. Everyone was very friendly, and the food came out fast, cooked to perfection. I think the longest time we had sat there was just us trying to make up our minds on what to eat. You can walk in and sit anywhere. There are little paper menus and pens directly to the right of the door whenever you walk in. Take one of those. The waiter will get it from you after you're done filling out what you want. The only slight negative was that the syrup wasn't as thick as I'm used to, and the sweet tea wasn't as sweet - but, take that with a grain of salt. My preference might not be the same as yours. We plan on going back one day dressed up to match the theme of the decade....
