Happy Hour from 4 to 7 is the BEST time of day!!!! Kicking Camerones are so good I can't even find the words to describe them! Note added: I will add just one thing about Captain Woody's, bite the bullet and drive to the Bluffton, SC location I'm reviewing here because they are much better than the location on Hilton Head Island, SC. We went to Captain Woody's - Bluffton 3 times the week we were there. On our last night, and 4th night eating at Captain Woody's we decided to save the drive and just go to the Hilton Head location. BIG MISTAKE! The Kicking Camerones are supposed to be served on a bed of raw cabbage. Eating the cabbage with the shrimp makes it so much better. Imagine my dissapointment when the 1st order of camerones I got at the HHI location was not on a bed of cabbage. Soooooo, on the next order, I specifically asked to "make sure they are on the bed of cabbage, please". Here they come with no cabbage! The waitress sat them down and I said, "I specifically asked to make sure they were on the bed of cabbage and this was her response "word for word", "we don't do that here". Me: they do at Bluffton. Waitress: well we don't here. Besides, it's just a garnishment anyway. Me: but we love to eat the cabbage with the shrimp. It gives them a great crunch and just tastes really good. Waitress: well we don't do that here! I would suggest to the owner of these two locations that since the official Captain Woody's recipe for the dish is served on a bed of shredded cabbage that the HHI location follow the recipe! Not to mention how friendly the staff is at the Bluffton location. The bartender at the HHI location has the personality of a salt shaker! Save yourself the trouble and make the drive to Captain Woody's - Bluffton! You'll have a much...
Read moreWasn't going to leave a review but after your manager on duty wants to make comments on FB figured I would. So, the fried flounder was way over cooked as were the clam strips and oysters. Shrimp were good. Person that order the side of crab didn't even eat it. Said it was over cooked. However someone else in the party did. The wife ordered surf and turf. The steak was supposed to be rare. Came out medium to medium well. If you eat rare steak something that over cooked it not good and was returned (same thing would have happened of someone ordered well done and received rare) so they could cook another. If came out a true rare however it was cold on the inside. No not a cool red center. It was cold as in straight from the cooler. Out of a party of 7 people only 2 were happy with their orders. Those two people were happy for a reason. There dishes were not only correct there were what you would expect based on pricing. With the fried food (the other 5 people in the party) it was like an overpriced fast food restaurant. Now to the reason for this review. The manager Lauren wants to make comments about how she was hesitant about making another steak as the first one was perfectly rare. I do realize they are a seafood restaurant but they offer other items and therefore should be able to prepare them to standards recognized by the industry and most everyone that cooks and or orders food. Before we even left I was willing to give them another shot down the road. We went home left a comment on FB and then received pushback from management. Needless to say after that we will be done indefinitely. I don't mind the extra travel time to Skull...
Read moreIf I could leave negative stars I would. They started off with poor service being that we were seated and our drink order was not taken for 5 minutes and they weren’t busy. We, myself and 4 kids, ordered food and when it came to the table, I noticed two different pieces of hair. One on our crab legs that we paid $30/pound for and then one on my son’s shrimp and grits. But the piece de resistance was when I found a fly in my low country sauté. It was dead and looked like it was cooked with the food. I asked the host to look at it first and he got my server. She commented, oops. You had a fly sneak in there huh? I hadn’t had a quarter of my meal. She offered for me to order something in its place but who would want to eat when they find something like that?? I asked for the manager and he didn’t seem concerned whatsoever. As I walked out I warned other guests of what I found and suggested they eat ANYWHERE else!!! The staff doesn’t seem to care about their guests, because in a similar situation, and yes, I manage a restaurant, that entire table would have eaten for free. It’s not as though I didn’t have the money to pay, I took my kids there because a few years ago it was good food, but when I have to tell my kids to box up their food because I was sick to my stomach, there is a problem. DHEC has been notified and all forms of reviews will be exhausted. The rule of three...best and worst form of...
