So I took a trip there because I was with my uncle and Dad, a little bonding time. At first glance I would not say the bar was overly impressive. We had a seat and the Bar Tender, quickly waited on us. Her name was Araea, I may have the spelling wrong but if you go you will know who I mean. We order a round of Guiness and as we waited, ordered a round of Jameson shots. I was taking some pictures of my Dad and Uncle and the Araea offered to take a picture of us all. Which we acceped and all drank our shots. We decided to order some food. This was a typicall Irish Bar menu. I wanted something small, so I order the smoked wings, Hot. Our food came out it what I would consider a timely fashon. The wings are not fried, no breading and not wet. They where naked with a rub and a light redish color mixed in with the natural wing color. All of the wings were plup with a good amount of meat on them all. But once you bite into them the majic really happens. The wings are moist and tender inside, the outside has some sort of rub that give them the hot flavor I order. However the bigest suprise was the smoky flavor, not over powering just right. My guess is they Brine the wings to give them the tender moist texture on the inside and then smoke them just to the right amount. I will be forever comparing these wings to every wing I ever eat from now on. Cudos...
Read moreStop now if you don't like long reviews. I walked from Deerfield Beach, about 5 miles, to eat and see a movie. Along the way I passed Black Rose. It was 2 PM and they were just opening. As I looked around at all the other places that didn't fit my style, I KNEW I was coming back after the movie.
I did, but walking back I saw all these emergency lights, fire engines mostly. They were everywhere down the road towards where I was going. As I approached Black Rose, I noticed the entire area, hotels and all, was in a blackout.
Standing in the darkness at the only bar in the area I thought I'd like I lost hope. Met a girl in the patio who I think worked there, totally cool girl with lots of ink. We watched as utility workers did something with a stick to the electric pole. I also laughed with a guy who also must have worked there about it all, and he said come back Saturday for UFC. I LOVE UFC! But I was leaving town Friday. Crud. Started walking away then "zing!" the lights came back on!
Had a seat and 2 cool Smithwicks served by the hilarious and so so cool Mojo. Side note: draft Smithwicks and Guinness are half the price I'd be happy to pay for them back home in the French Quarter. This place is an oasis for a guy like me who doesn't own...
Read moreThe place is somewhat ok. I would have preferred to sit outside on the patio (which is nice) but it was a bit chilly that night. I'll bring up the downside first. I believe there are a few regulars that could be pushing new clientele such as myself away, for example some guy watching a game outside, yelling and flashing his stomach every 2-3 mins. Witnessed 2 fights while I was there (they never got to be physical but they weren't too far). The good side, the prices are not bad, food is decent (not amazing), and the staff was very friendly. It's an ok place to stop by and have a drink but not spend too much time. The feel of the place is more of a dive bar than a bar inside. The furniture seems outdated, bathroom not too clean (understatement), and the place could use a new pool table and equipment. Overall it feels and looks like the place was nice when it opened (whenever that was) and slowly went downhill. I would go back just because of the outside...
