Disappointing.. My wife and I come here quite a bit for breakfast and lunch and for the most part we generally enjoy the atmosphere and food and would rate them between a four and five..The servers are always very joyful, courteous, competent and professional. Esp. Victoria, Nicole and Emily...However,as of late though, the breakfast (primarily the eggs) has been very disappointing if one of these three aren't there to ensure that the order is prepared with the high degree of quality and standard that we have become accustomed to at this establishment...Now, with that said, for breakfast I have on numerous occasions ordered eggs over medium only to have the eggs presented to me looking as though they have been cooked at some greasy spoon diner in some red light district where they just slap it on the grill and then slap it on your plate and serve it to you....
I keep getting this picture of some short order cook with tattoos hovering over a hot grill packed with breakfast meats, potatoes and eggs, a cigarette dangling from his mouth, sweat dripping from his brow getting the orders out as fast as possible with no concern for presentation or quality. Here ya go sir. On our last visit I had to send them back to be redone only to have the same issue again!!!. I mean, how difficult is it to prepare eggs esp. when most of the other meals are done so well? I noticed that the server showed them to Paul the Mgr. who was dismissive and never once approached our table to inquire about the problem.. So, a couple of cups of coffee, two disappointing plates and an uneaten breakfast (by my wife) later, we decided to just pay and leave as the experience and lack of concern on Paul's part was completely inexcusable and unprofessional..( Not to mention that I was very hungry). On the way out we expressed to the server that this was not a reflection on her but on the management.. When we were outside, we passed Paul and he said that he was sorry and this is the way they cook their eggs. (REALLY)? I told him that the eggs weren't always cooked this way and also that sorry does not correct the issue which he needed to address...Hey, just tell me that you don't really give a hoot because basically that is what sorry and your attitude says to me. As I stated, we have been frequenting this establishment for some time and I have to say that under the old management with Christina, this would never have happened due to the high standard she set and her attention to customer satisfaction always!!!!
Consistency Paul...Everything flows from the top down so if management's standards begins to slack well so will the rest eventually!!
This is Saquella Cafe Boca Raton not Greasy's Diner Anywhere USA!!!
When and if we do come back for breakfast I guess I'll just have coffee, breakfast potatoes, turkey sausage and no eggs...
Read moreHorrible experience! The owner is verbally abusive to customers and staff. We were asked how our meal was by him. When we responded that the lox was rotten and we had to send it back he verbally attacked us with insults, saying we are a pain in the a** and continued cussing and were told never come back again. Why ask for feedback when you truly don’t care how your customers feel and can’t handle the response. Also, at a previous experience there he asked us if we wanted to try a piece of his key lime cake. He said come on you have to and proceeded to bring it over. As we assumed this was a nice gesture, he added $15 to our bill for it. Saquella used to be a great breakfast place before this new owner. I expect them to be closed before long. Also, we had lost our appetite due to his horrid breath Ugh 😑 Stay away!
Update: Saquella cafe owner’s reply to my fiancée
Saquella Café (Owner) 10 minutes ago We regret to inform you that due to recent incidents involving inappropriate behavior towards our staff and patrons, we must ask you to refrain from visiting our establishment in the future. It has come to our attention that your conduct towards our team members, including your own companion, has been less than respectful. Moreover, your tendency to voice complaints about various aspects of our restaurant has created an uncomfortable environment for both guests and staff alike.
As a business, our priority is to ensure a pleasant and welcoming experience for all our customers. Regrettably, your actions have detracted from this objective. Therefore, we kindly request that you seek alternative dining options moving forward.
We appreciate your understanding in this matter.
**This is completely untrue and falsified. The server even apologized to us for the owner’s behavior. He came unhinged and showed compete disrespect and unprofessionalism. Never has my fiancée shown disrespect to me (his companion), patrons or staff. The fact is that the owner can’t handle any feedback from patrons. Good luck you’re going to need it. My guess is they will be closed very soon with this type of behavior.
Let's start with the basics. None of us in my group enjoyed the food, and were put off by the price increase. As for the new décor, it seems to mimic a standard northeast downtown eatery style, which feels out of place compared to the cozy, Spanish country ambiance we've cherished for over a decade. Regardless of ownership changes, my priority remains simple: a good cappuccino and well-prepared dishes. Unfortunately, over three visits in the past quarter, neither of these expectations was met.
The cappuccino now comes in a cup the size of an espresso shot, yet the price remains unchanged. Furthermore, the flavor and richness have diminished compared to my previous experiences here. The reduction in bakery offerings is also disappointing, with only a few remnants of the diverse selection of baked goods and breads we once enjoyed.
During our last meal, consisting of two steak and egg orders and a caprese omelet bruschetta, the quality fell short. The New York strips were fatty, unusually pale, and not up to par with what we've come to expect. At $25 per serving, I don't anticipate Morton's-level perfection, but I do expect better than what's offered at chain restaurants. The scrambled eggs were overcooked and dry, and the caprese omelet bruschetta was confusingly served as a sandwich rather than with the toasted ciabatta on the side. Yes, we have had an omelet with bruschetta in it, sans the toasted bread. Thought we were having that without asking. The server recognized the miscommunication and came back with an omelet instead. However, it was Meh at best.
Overall, the breakfast experience has declined noticeably. While it wasn't terrible, it certainly wasn't up to previous standards. Considering the rising costs of operation, including rent and insurance, I get prices rise, make sure you look at that before you get there, but it's crucial that the food quality and execution remain competitive. This was not.
On a positive note, the service was commendable, although I only recognized one familiar face during our last visit. Hopefully, management will take customer feedback into account and understand that in the realm of eateries, public preference ultimately...
