I have never left a bad review in my life. This afternoon we were headed back to Austin after horseback riding in Bandera. For my birthday we decided to stop in and grab some well deserved grub. Our host was pleasant and recommended great options, the gentleman bartending was quick to help guests. The restaurant had great indoor and outdoor seating as well as the Cowboys game on. We picked a spot to settle in and our first dish was enroute. Our first server/food runner to attend to our table brought a salad and wings to which we asked for silverware and we’re slapped with a “yeah did you not see it at the front?” We ourselves have worked in the service industry and completely understand a bad day so we chalked it up to just that and went inside to grab out silverware. The next server/food runner(a different young lady) brought a soup and charcuterie appetizer and even cracked a joke—very pleasant! We asked a question about one of the specials—and she politely told us she would check back for us. Instead the first server/food runner returned(who had made the previous dismissive comment) and began YELLING AT US. I think we all froze and just couldn’t believe what was happening. I’m not sure what was communicated to this server but she began yelling at us for accusing her of not bringing our order out correctly. This is odd to me because she was not the person who took our order so she would not be at fault if there was an issue in the order but at this moment we did not have an issue. We were stunned to say the least. I’ve had wrong orders or raw food or even other instances happen at restaurants and looked past them but this was unprovoked and unreasonable to say the least. We immediately felt uncomfortable and asked to leave. We just wanted our check and to go. Although this is not what unfolded. Instead, the manager insisted that we have a free round of drinks or wait for the cooks to make us the special. At this point I just wanted my check and we were held up since they were rushing to make the special for us. Once we had the check we headed for the exit only to be blocked from leaving by the manager who had the server who yelled at us next to her and asked us if we’d be willing to discuss things. Is this Dr. Phil? What world are we living in where we are going to discuss with someone why they would yell at us in the entrance of your restaurant?! The manager lost my trust at that point although seeming to understand the situation initially. I don’t want this review to reflect the rest of the staff that did a great job making us feel welcome and doing everything on their part correctly and politely. Unfortunately we were unable to eat our food because our hour and half long drive home left our seafood dishes and cheeses no longer fresh. Happy Birthday to...
Read moreI’ve loved coming here for the past six years, however that love is waning. This place has an identity crisis: one side is a relaxed, casual upper-middle-class brew pub; the other is a dive (beer) bar charging premium full-service prices without any semblance of service (the industry they’re in).
A few years ago, they didn’t allow tipping—the employees would share their dissatisfaction with me as I’d pay. With a shrug of the shoulders, they’d explain their menu’s prices already reflected gratuity.
Now, they do allow tipping. Were the menu prices adjusted to reflect this? No. I get it, everything’s expensive now. That said, their menu prices continue to climb and to compound the problem, they now surcharge ALL (not just credit) cards, which is a clear violation of Visa and MC’s rules is I-L-L-E-G-A-L. I saw this mentioned in previous reviews, which the manager responded to justifying their practices, so I figured I’d spell it out: you are jeopardizing your ability to accept payment cards and are setting yourselves up for legal disaster. Also, why stop at surcharging the way I pay you money? How about a bathroom toll? Napkins, straws, AC, etc.? This isn’t a convenience store with $5 average tickets. If your margins are really that thin, you have bigger issues to address, otherwise this is effectively another revenue stream for them. I know the cost of my card transaction; you’re charging me more than it actually costs.
Ironically, the quality of service has drastically worsened. The food has worsened: the last two dishes were served lukewarm. The beertenders, when not staring at their phones, have an attitude that you should feel lucky to have them serve you beer and chicken wings. The manager is always present, however he’s always disengaged with patrons. Not even a hello from him, not once after dozens of visits.
Their POS (or POS operator) has issues. I’ve opened a tab with a physical card and ask to close via AppleCard, only to have my original card used. I’ve met with groups that had multiple tabs. When closing mine out, I was charged for the other party’s tab. Trying to explain this to the employees was futile.
I keep wanting to love this place again, however the last three visits reconfirmed my opinion. That said, I’ll give them one more chance before taking my money to support other...
Read moreStopped in to Cibolo Creek Brewing for a late lunch Sunday the 17th. We were on the way back home from my sister's birthday celebration in Bandera and wanted to grab a bite to eat. The food and atmosphere were lovely. Unfortunately, our waitress was very aggressive and condescending towards us. When she brought us our food I asked if she could provide us with silverware. She very rudely and matter of factly let me know those were available at the self service station. We brushed off her derogatory nature as a simple bad day and I went to grab the silverware, napkins, shakers, and straws for our table. When I got back to the table we realized they forgot my sisters entree (shrimp & grits). We politely asked if it was on the way. A different waitress (who was very nice to us) apologized and let us know she would go check on the meal. Our assigned waitress came back in a huff and addressed us as if we were children. Scolding us and accusing us of lying about ordering an entree at all...I was completely gob smacked. She then concluded her chiding by saying "if" and only "if" we could even prove we had ordered an entree at all then it would be our responsibility to figure out what happened with the front of house ordering system...can you imagine sitting outside on a nice day enjoying a laugh with your family only to have someone rudely and abruptly berate you for an error which THEY made? We were so taken aback by the entire fiasco we decided to leave immediately. We do not treat people like that and cannot fathom sitting for a meal after such abusive treatment. The manager clearly was not capable of handling the situation and tried to bring the waitress over for a "discussion" as we were trying to make our exit. It felt like we were being harassed honestly. The entire experience was overwhelming, stressful, and just plain inappropriate. I seriously hope this never happens to any one else. Completely uncalled for. Spending money on food only to be maltreated and humiliated left us feeling truly taken...
