Zen House — Restaurant in Bolingbrook

Canned: Water chestnuts, Bamboo shoots, Mini-corn cobs are part of the out dated ingredients not listed in dishes on menu with No substitutions or removing ingredients allowed (despite the menu saying it’s possible with $4.00 minimum charge). Hot/spicy isn’t at all hot/spicy but they sure use lots of sugar! I love Chinese/Asian and sugar has its place but this place exceeds what’s normal and reasonable.

Fry Oil was so old it was actually unusable because expired oil smells and tastes really bad, right? The gross oil taste was so strong we couldn’t eat the egg rolls and had to throw them (and the orange chicken) away. As for the reviews? Unbelievable that they care so little or are too lazy or cheap to change their clearly expired oil. Unbelievable that they use so many canned ingredients and it’s unbelievable that they refuse any substitutions despite the menu saying they’ll charge you an excessive $4.00 for it.

I don't know how I've gone this long without reviewing Zen House. My wife and I order from here a few times a month; at one point, it was almost weekly.

We tried several of the Chinese restaurants in our area, but this has been our favorite, hands down. We don't even mess with any of the others, now. I pass three other options on my way to pick up our food, but it's well worth the drive.

The prices are very fair for the quality and quantity of food you receive. And I don't know how they do it, but their food is always warm by the time we go to eat. There have been occasions where my food was still steaming hot even after opening it about 40 minutes post pick up.

The family that runs this restaurant is also very friendly and super efficient. I've never had an instance where I got to the restaurant and had to wait for my food. In and out in about 2 minutes, every time. Highly...

As soon as we walked in, the lady at the counter didn't greet us nor asked us if she could help us. She just stared at us with an unpleasant face. After my co workers and i began with our orders one of them was still unsure of what they wanted so I pointed at the different selections they had on the wall, when my co worker named something on the menu on the wall she said that's not a special mind you we never said anything about wanting "specials" I guessed she assumed because we were Hispanics we didn't have any money. She charged us for hot sauce.75 per sauce and we spent around $50 for 3 plates and a large fried rice with 4 egg rolls which were disgusting 😒 😑 they were not crunchy but stale had bad flavor , were not made fresh like they claimed and the rice was not that good.
