Place is casual and they provide good service. +Ordered Mojarra frita but they placed the fish over the salad ruining it by warming it up. 1st guest ordered the bandeja paisa and the steak didn't look fresh. The rest of the dish was okay. 2nd guest ordered the picada and it had very little meat. Would have preferred to pay more and get more meat. I won't be trying this place for a while.
UPDATE: 04/2023:
Went back after about 4yrs and their food and service has improved. This time we ordered the Mini-Picada and it was huge. It was enough for 2 and it was loaded with meats. A huge improvement over the last time.
Also tried their chicharrón con Arepa; ordered the chicharrón whole which is a large piece; although, it could be cut better. The thickest part was a bit underdone.
Ordered the Marranita appetizer which is a whole fried sweet plantain with guava paste and queso fresco. It was rather good although the plantain was a bit bitter. They need to learn how to extract the full sweetness out of it.
We didn't order any other food so I don't know if their Bandeja Paisa or any other dishes have improved.
They've expanded their dinning area towards the back to accommodate 7 more tables. While the staff is extremely friendly, they still need more full service training.
I also noticed that they all wear gloves; while this may give an impression of cleanliness, it also gives the staff a false sense of sanitation as they will less often wash their hands. The servers shouldn't wear gloves unless they're handling the food directly.
An issue which will cause them to lose customers is that they have out of date pricing on their menus. Updating their menus shouldn't cost much and it's well worth it. If you want updated prices, check online. I believe the pricing can be found on Google.
I would recommend this place and see myself trying other dishes...
Read moreI ended up at this location because I was feeling home sick and was craving some empanadas for me and my toddler to try. This would be the first time she would be trying them so I wanted to make sure they were from a great reviewed location. The location of the restaurant isn't in a bad spot and had some sweet workers inside. The minute we walked in we were greeted by all the front staff and that made the experience ten times nicer.
Now, I just wanted empanadas so that is what this review will be about. I ordered a beef, chicken and beef with cheese empanada. Let's start off with the dough (masa) of the empanada; which was insanely thick and looked more like a ball than empanada. Had absolutely no flavor and the filling to dough ratio was way off. The beef filling was very disappointing because it was shredded beef that had been dried out, sauteed, cubed potatoes were added in, and NO FLAVOR. The only good part was the potato inside the filling. Next was the chicken and oh my goodness; we completely spit it out because it was terrible. Dry shredded chicken, still cold and of course NO FLAVOR. Last up was the beef and cheese; little did we know it was mexican cheese and wasn't melted so it just had a weird bite to it, plus the cheese was overpowering and left a bad aftertaste in your mouth. We had one bite and ,tossed the rest out because there was no saving those empanadas. One thing about empanadas is that if they are done right then you don't need a sauce with it.
This was a complete embarrassment and although the ambiance and staff were nice; I highly doubt that I will be returning again. I might need to just cook my Spanish food to show the...
Read moreWe were a party of 5 to try out a new place to eat. We decided on going to Cafe & Sabor as one in my party recommended it. The host was very polite with a welcoming smile. They sat us down pretty quickly. We all ordered different plates as I ordered a traditional Colombian dish. I ordered Bandeja Paisa. I was excited to try the Colombian special. We all got our food as it looked amazing. I took a piece of pork belly and one fork of rice and beans. As I chewed the food and was ready to swallow, I felt something in my mouth. I plucked it and pulled it out. It was a gray hair about 6 inches long. I lost my appetite immediately. I flagged the waitress over and showed it to her as I gave the plate to her. She offered to make it over or if I wanted something else. I refused the offer as I didn’t want to eat anymore due to loss of appetite. When the check came, they DID NOT take off the plate that I didn’t eat. They wanted to give me 50% off that plate…. I was shocked that they didn’t want to remove the entire plate from my check. I asked for a manager and he didn’t want to remove it either. So for around $11 that needed to be taken off the check which the manager refused to do, he lost 5 clients that may have come back for coffee or pastries… I will never come back here for anything. I told him that I am a food critic and that google will be notified. 7102B Hull Street Richmond...
