Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Virginia

This was my first time dining at this establishment and it will be my last. My waitress was THE WORST! She was impatient when trying to take our order; literally tapping the paper with an attitude while we were trying to say what we wanted. When I asked for a margarita she literally stated that they can make the drink but she wouldn't because she has made Pina coloadas for people and they didn't like them and returned them so mixing of flavors isn't something she would be willing to do because I may not like it and she didn't want me to return it. Meanwhile I'm confused because I didn't ask for a Pina coloda and why are you telling me about drinks being returned. It made me wonder what the actual policy is. This is the first Mexican restaurant I've been to where you have to pay after 2 baskets of chips and salsa. Meanwhile that wasn't an issue because she never asked if we wanted another basket and when we asked she brought out more chips but no salsa and white sauce. Her temperament ruined the whole experience. I mean she never once came to the table and just stopped and asked how is everything. Granite she did ask us in passing once how was everything. She never even asked us about refills on regular drink orders at all. Now if this place was extremely busy then I may understand a little more about asking in passing as she may have been covering a lot of tables. However, it was about 4 other groups of people in there and due to the size of the restaurant you could clearly see that it was no need for that at all. When we checked out the ticket mentioned Carmen being the person it was under. I'm assuming that is her name as she never even introduced herself but she did rang us up. The food itself was decent; but I mean it would had to have been immaculate for the way this woman serviced our table. I've truly never had a waitress like this. For that reason, I would never go to this restaurant again. Plenty of other Mexican restaurants with better drinks and food. This was a random try as we were passing it and...

Terrible experience! Visited the restaurant and encountered a thick piece of plastic in my food to which the manager was notified of the issue. Manages them comes to the table and asked what’s the problem to which she was advised of the issue and a display of the plastic in the food. The manager proceeded to cut me off and advised that they will take 20% of the meal. Ummm, excuse me…clearly the billing was not an issue. Super irritating as the manager missed the opportunity to remediate the issue. Not to mention, it felt uncomfortable post the notification to the manager as things started to feel rushed as if she wanted me to leave. Keep in mind, there was no scene, simply a general conversation to bring awareness and to give the manager an opportunity to fix the issue. I literally had the plastic in my mouth chewing on it. In addition, while paying for the remaining balance of the groups food, I STILL proceeded to give the waitress a tip and she thought I was bringing another issue to them, however I was only trying to tip her as she did serve the table. The waitress provided to speak in Spanish and unbeknownst to her… my friend who is bilingual speaks Spanish as well, called her out and said, she was only trying to tip you and proceeded to tell her how disrespectful she was due to what she said…. Racist of course… never again will I even think to give my business and visit this restaurant. This really hurt me as I’m not a person that likes attention nor complain… I love peace and let things go as my heart will not allow...

I ordered through DoorDash and I ordered A LOT of food... $30 worth, and they only gave me two small hot sauces!!! I called and asked for more because they wouldn't give it to my Dasher and they wanted me to put in another order through DoorDash... which you can't without being charged a small order fee. They are also $1 each for the small containers... Horrible service! I am tempted to put two stars based on service. I also probably won't go to this place again.

P.S. I asked them in the original order to add lots of hot sauce. They can adjust your order on their end, so I didn't have to put in another order like they were telling me too... I shouldn't have had to pay for me either way.

The food had it's ups and downs. I wish the hot sauce was spicier, but the flavor was good. The side cheese quesadilla was good. I did not like the side beef enchilada at all. I thought it would have cheese on the inside and it's ground beef, not shredded beef. The carne asada steak wasn't bad, but I think I prefer my steak in tacos/a burrito chopped up rather than whole. The taquitos (beef and chicken) had good flavor, but the meat were dry and I had to use a lot of hot sauce/guac/sour cream on them. I really liked the rice and beans.
