I have been a customer of the British Open Pub for 4 years now. I have taken my family there, including my 100 year old Grandfather who loves their Liver and Onions. No More ! Tonight I ordered three fish and chips and an order of batter fried Mushrooms. When I arrived to pick it up the order was wrong, short one fish and chips and the mushrooms. I didn't worry about it until I mentioned that to-go orders should not have to come inside to the bar to be picked up. During the shutdown, orders were picked up at the outside bar area which is perfect. However, that's NOT the current procedure and when I asked about that a waitress said I could wait out there. I was wearing a mask and for the record I was the ONLY one wearing a mask in the entire restaurant. Now I know that the Governor has said there are no restrictions but common sense should prevail especially in the food service industry. That being said what happened next was beyond disappointing in a restaurant I have recommended many times. I waited outside for the order to be completed only to have the MANAGER (I was told) show up wearing a garbage bag to deliver the food to me. Clearly mocking me wearing a mask. Astonished, I took the food and got in the car BUT after thinking about the delay and the fact that the manager had handed me the food wearing a garbage bag I didn't trust that the food was prepared correctly or was safe frankly. I returned to the outside bar and asked for the manager/owner. I was then confronted by an employee who came out of a back door and said "if you want your money back then return the food" which I had already handed to another employee. The employee who confronted me was wearing an untucked red/white checkered shirt for the record, not an employee or cooks apparel. This behaviour is utterly unacceptable, three employees told me they didn't care if I thought there was a problem. There wasn't a problem until the employees created one by their behaviour. I work for the Lee County School District in a middle School and I manage issues of behaviour everyday. These employees were confrontational, dismissive and took NO responsibility for their actions and in fact instead of resolving a minor issue they created a bigger problem and then escalated it even further. The only employee who made an attempt to rectify/de escalate the problem was a server dressed as a police officer. My best friend who was with me at the time is British . She was horrified by the conduct of the staff as well and in fact interceded to a degree. Neither her or myself nor my family will ever eat there again and I will never recommend the BOP to anyone else again until there there are serious changes made to the attitudes of the staff. My confidence in them is gone. I do not trust the staff to prepare proper food any longer.

Read moreWe just got done watching the MasterChef episode where Chef Ramsey teaches them to make fish and chips. At that moment we started craving fish and chips and had to have some. Unfortunately, we picked the closest one because the reviews were not bad.
The atmosphere is kinda cool with kitschy "British" stuff all over the place. It was a typical hot humid evening here in SW FL, so we opted to eat at the bar which is tucked away in one side of the place. We sat right at the bar because the little side tables are very little and seemed awkward to sit at as a couple because they were just a half round table nailed to the wall, so that both of you are sitting on the same side of the table.
The positive aspect was the bartender, She was great, attentive, quick and friendly. From there the experience swerves quickly into mediocrity, basically the fish was not seasoned (that we could tell) it was so bland that we had to add more malt vinegar than one should normally do. The chips were not homemade, just basic frozen fries from any grocery freezer, again not bad, just not British. The standard side dish with fish and chips is mushy peas, they only gave you a small dish of ordinary green garden peas.
If you have ever had good authentic British fish and chips, you will be disappointed and let down. The food was not enough to get us to return to The...
Read moreMy girlfriend suggested we have lunch here. I'm very glad she did. The food was absolutely amazing. The service was fantastic. Our server (I can't remember her name) was great. She was there when we needed her, and wasn't in our face when we didn't, she really knew her stuff. Our food was out in about half the time I expected, and it was all so tasty. I ate bar food, chips with gravy and fried mushrooms, my girl went for dinner fare and had some sort of vegetables with shrimp skillet. Everything was top notch. My chips were crunchy where they should be, squishy where they should be, and the gravy was awesome. The mushrooms are hand breaded to order, and it showed, they weren't soggy or greasy as fried foods sometimes are, they were crisp and tasty. My girlfriend absolutely raved about her dish, as well. You could tell by the quality and variety of the vegetables that they weren't out of a bag of frozen stuff, they were fresh, and delicious. I would rate the food AND the service a 6 out of 5 stars if Google would let me. I'll definitely recommend this place to my friends, and I'll...
