We went to Fort Myers for date night fully intending to go to a favorite restaurant we frequent in the area. The hotel we stayed at for the night gave us a $40 dollar voucher for the hotel restaurant, and after looking at the enticing menu, we decided to change our date spot. On the voucher it said 18% gratuity was automatically charged. Fair enough. The food was delicious and the service top notch. The drinks were nice and strong so we didn't really look at the bill when it came and forgot the automatic gratuity. My husband tipped well (and the bill told how much to tip at the recommended percentages starting at 20%) Looking at the bill the next day, the restaurant did take the automatic gratuity as part of food charges (slick) separate from the tip section, and it was not the disclosed 18% but 20%. On top of that was the additional 20+% we happily tipped forgetting the automatic gratuity. Our waiter had a good night! But despite the amazing food, it left a bad taste in our mouth. Maybe the wealthy that were all around us would not blink at this, but a tip of almost $85 is pretty steep for a couple on a date night out of town. We left feeling a little robbed, and like we should have protected ourselves better. But who wants to need to pay close attention to things like these when you are on date night with a nice drink and a beautiful hotel...
Read moreThis charming steakhouse was an excellent find! Being brand new, the decor is fresh and inviting, making it the perfect setting for an intimate meal or a lovely dinner with a group of friends. I dined with a group of four, and the staff was absolutely superb, providing some of the most attentive service I've ever received. The wine list was quite extensive and varied for a steakhouse of its size, and the specialty cocktails seemed to be extravagant and popular.
We ordered several appetizers, notably the oysters rockefeller and seared scallops, which were both to-die-for. Everything was fresh and made in-house. The French onion soup and lobster bisque, which was prepared tableside, were both delicious. The steak selection, which I understand is aged on-site, was fantastic. I enjoyed the Australian wagyu with bernaise sauce and a side of crispy brussels immensely, while the other entrees I sampled from the table were great as well. For desert, the souffle was the perfect ending to a incredible and memorable meal.
On every dish we ordered, the attention to detail in both preparation and presentation was very apparent. This boutique steakhouse is truly a hidden gem and is a welcome addition an area otherwise crowded with chain options, offering what I'd consider to be one of the best dining...
Read moreThe grilled swordfish, which was the catch of the day, was perfectly cooked to medium as requested, and was moist yet appropriately firm / meaty and delicious.
The escargot we had was presented in a nontraditional way in a creamy base along with the puff pastry and was very good . . . and an alternative safer entry for those trying escargot for the first time. To be clear, the escargot was very good, but a bit heavier in the cream base and not your “lighter” traditional garlic and white wine base as found in France.
Our Server was exceptional and an amazing delight! He made our first time experience at the Olde Florida Chop House even better.
Our respective Old Fashioned and Gin Martini cocktails were meticulously crafted.
