Mazatlan Restaurant — Restaurant in Bonney Lake

First time at this location. Busy Friday night, got seated immediately which was appreciated. Took forever for server to come to our table, zero personality. Basically an order taker, no small talk, no upbeat attitude, just a blank stare as he wrote down our orders. Finally a support waitress dropped off some half filled waters and again... zero personality. By now, I’m totally unimpressed with the place but we’re here, so may as well eat. Went for some of the chips and salsa someone dropped off, chips were cold, salsa was like pure fire. We had to flag someone down as no one came to check how we were doing or fill our now empty water glasses. We asked if they possibly had some milder salsa, the waitress rolled her eyes and walked off, returning with a tiny dish of warm soup like salsa liquid. It was way better spice wise but it’s not like any salsa I’ve ever had. By now, I’m ready to pick the family up and scram, like a group of 4 did at the next table, but the food finally arrived. To my surprise (based on the experience so far) everything was awesome. We all enjoyed the food. It’s the service and attitude that was lacking. *Disclaimer: We just moved to the area and miss our favorite family run Mexican restaurant where they greet us by name, smile, interact with us, and bend over backwards to provide excellent service. Does this mean Mazatlan is terrible? For us that remains to be seen. We’ll give it a few more tries before we make that final decision. Went there last Sunday around 630 pm. Waiter was not attentive. He never asked us if we wanted drink refills (which we were all empty), and he never checked back after bringing our food. When he came with bill, he never said a word, took the card and walked away. He didn't say a word when he came back to the table, and didn't say a word when we walked past him to leave. Definitely not what you'd expect from ordering $80 of food.

We tried again tonight at around 500 pm. We got a different waiter. This time, he was very nice and pleasant. We were seated in a new area that we'd never been in. There were a few big parties going on our area. Our poor waiter was running around (Definitely over worked). He never checked back with us, never got refills on drinks, and we wanted to order fried ice cream since it was my birthday dinner. We sat there with empty glasses, plates already taken, and no bill for quite some time. I stepped away and spoke with the owner. I let him know of my current and previous experience. He just complained about his employees being lazy, not wanting to work, bad attitudes, and tardiness. He never offered anything to rectify the experience. Had he offered me a discount, or a free fried ice cream, or a $10 gift card for my next visit, I wouldn't be writing this review, and I would venture to give them another chance. Sadly for me, they have the best carne asada burrito. I need to spend my hard earned money somewhere that values me...

Sadly I will give 0- if possible 😔 I use to love this restaurant was my favorite Mexican Restaurant in bonney lake I enjoy all the food I had started the year going 2 times a week this was my 4th time but it will be my last visit is upsetting I felt dishonored I order a chicken tortilla soup with chicken on a side wish I had order 4+ times before and never had a problem the flavor was great obviously the chicken gives it a kick but not the FULL TASTE well this last time it was just water with masa no crunchy tortilla chips lots of everything Except the seasoning no flavor at all so I let the server know and ge reply THERE IS THE SALT I said no I mean no seasoning at all is just water no seasoning so he ask the cook he came back and said we'll that's how is always cook to wish I said okay and the OWNER came to my table and said I just told my cook and server to never serve the soup the way you order it he said because the chicken is the flavor to wish I said Oh Is the first time this happens. And he said we'll we are not going to sell you the soup that way anymore you can order everything else except that. To wish I said this is the main reason why I have visit every week. I'm very disappointed I didn't lie about loving the soup but this last time was not cook the same way and they didn't belive me and I felt treated like a...
