Egg's City — Restaurant in Boonton

Oh, how I wish I could just keep hitting that fifth star and turn it into six, maybe seven stars. I literally dropped my knife and fork after the last bite to jet in here and get this review written. This is the best breakfast I've had in years. I went the direct route - Huevos Rancheros, and... perfection. The layers of flavor were all sublimely balanced, no over-reliance on cheese or cream. The salsa was rich and hearty, with long, slender slices of crimson tomato still clearly present and claiming their dominance. The potatoes had a melt-in-my-mouth texture, firm until the final surrender into lovely softness. Looked like a promising menu, would like to try more of it. We all had breakfast burritos, add chorizo, great flavor to them, though they were a smidge drier than hoped. The hot sauce we drizzled on them helped with that and will literally be the thing that brings me back. Might be the best hot sauce I've ever had, great flavor, just spicy enough. Coffee was solid, service was excellent, too, though there was only one other table there and I was surprised at how long it took for the food to come out with that few in the restaurant at the time. Will definitely be back, one of the best breakfast options in Boonton!...

Unfortunately I feel as if the quality has dropped since they first opened. I paid extra recently for jalapeños and a “spicy” sandwich that wasn’t spicy at all and had no jalapeños. Maybe I couldn’t see them? You can check the picture.

I waited 30 minutes for one sandwich to be made, I think they forgot about the order.

And the chilaquiles went from a weekly staple in my life to nothing to be desired. Maybe I’ll try again in a few months, but for now I can’t stand the consistent...
