have been here a few times. each time it's been further sliding downhill. I'd never seen today's staff before since I was last there probably 3-4 months ago.
Fries had zero salt. When I asked for some, the barmaid says "oh it is right in front of you" it wasn't. Do you think I'm blind or do not recognize a salt shaker? be accommodating. If it were as you say, I would have seen it. So she fetched a shaker.
Can't make a proper cocktail.
Then the associate bartender, without asking me (a) if I was done, (b) wanted anything else, (c) needed another drink or dessert or coffee. . . . simply cashed out my tab.
When I asked if that meant I was flagged (mind you, I had half finished the only drink) she didn't even bother to turn around. Oh, she saw the credit card was in the receipt glass so she thought she would close out my tab. Well, I put the card there so you could start a tab, not close out my bill. So I explained that I intended to keep the card with the receipt instead of on the bar . . . where I just doused everything with salt, partly out of frustration. LOL
I also said that I intended to probably order another appy and possibly one more drink. Nope. That's what I thought because once that little exchange happened there was no intent to accommodate me with anything else. I got a plate and a drink, be happy. very unprofessional.
However, you did close this matter out if ya ask me.
fwiw people who say online that it's the best in Bordentown need to get out more. It's a more-or-less pub type menu, the price of not-a-pub.
Also the bartenders stick their fingers in the bottles and then pour from them. disgusting. that was only one of a few things including not washing bar equipment. (You do not pick out food particles from the shaker and quick rinse it with a splash from the bar gun and put it back on the drain ledge to reuse. Gross. )
and the last time I was there one of the front-of-the-house managers commented that on that night, it must have been my night, because I had nothing but strange around me. Including a woman they cut off from service. sitting right near me acting like a flake. However, I highly doubt this episode merited that type of treatment. Nevertheless, I can go spend $15 on a badly made drink anywhere.
and if it seems not right to a restaurant staff member that a patron trying to have dinner asks for salt, and puts out a credit card during service, and asks for limes in a "cosmo" (that's an obvious ingredient) then one would serve themselves well to go elsewhere.
3.5% surcharge is apparently added to all non-cash transactions. Gee, who carries cash this day and age? For what you guys charge, you should take plastic tender for the privilege of someone putting up with the bad experience. The. End.
And in follow-up, since the front-of-the-house posted a comment, I'm not interested. You people are one of several restaurants downtown in a gentrifying/ied neighborhood so one would think to 'up' the game. It's the holiday season and I get out more now and in winter and always seek a reputable watering hole with food whether solo or with friends. This was not a "misunderstanding". This was ignorance of staff, bad bartending and a nonchalant retort. Happy Holidays! Hire...
Read moreThe positive: zucchini sticks were unique though, I’d never seen them that large and they did end up being very good. The server recommended a grilled cheese brisket to my fiancé and he liked it a lot. Great suggestions.
The negative: The coffee burger tasted unseasoned, we got our appetizer after our meal, the alcoholic drinks tasted like water (and I am someone who does not drink/does not like their drinks too strong and -I- thought it was weak).
Our meals came out on what looked like cafeteria trays. This took up ALL the room on the table. The fries came out in a faux-newspaper fold apparatus that further made it feel like a cafeteria/food truck situation. Unpleasant to the eye.
Our empty drinks were left on the table the entire time we were eating, taking up space. Instead of taking our empty drinks, a server (not ours) took the extra plate away to clear space on the table WITH my utensils and napkins away with it. All around I was expecting a fine dining experience and it felt more like a fast food experience. If I wanted overpriced unseasoned burgers I’d go to McDonalds. I will not be back because if I’m paying $80 for a meal I expect it to actually be good and the staff to be competent. Still left over a 20% tip though because I’m not an a**hole.
Additionally: For the add-ons, charging 1,2,3$ for substitutions that you have as sides anyway is ridiculous. I would have bought extra toppings for the pork belly, bacon, egg, etc. because I thought 1.75 was reasonable until I found out that it’s 1.75 for EACH. Criminal charging 1.75 for an egg. What is this, 5 months ago? The menu is not clear and makes it seem like you get the listed toppings for 1.75, not pick ONE. It’s misleading and made me further disappointed in an already disappointing meal. You’re not fancy enough to be charging that much money.
I don’t often complain about servers but it felt inattentive. Teach them etiquette of what to take and what not to take off the table. And I know you’re going to harp on that because restaurants always treat their servers poorly I’m sure you’re no different, but 95% of my problem wasn’t with the server it was with this restaurant pretending to be something it...
Read moreThree of us visited OTP recently, sitting at the bar. Decor is a bit confusing. Fake brick wall covering in an historic building in an historic town? Hmm. We took our time studying and ordering from the extensive drink menu. Bartender was definitely skillful in preparing drinks, but offered zero help or personality to our party. We finally ordered food, and that's where things took a bad turn. 35 minutes later, with no explanation, 2 of our 3 entrees arrived. My wife's beet salad and tiny greens had the smallest portion mixed of greens I've ever seen, and her beets were definitely out of a can, sprinkled with a meager amount of goat cheese. Presentation was poor and portions were extremely small. She also ordered macaroni and cheese, which was an appetizer portion, but lacked any visible cheese beyond the color of cheese; it was a thin, milk and flour-flavored sauce, topped with flavorless bread crumbs. My hot roast beef au jus sandwich arrived with very greasy, lukewarm fries, and the sandwich was ice cold. The once-melted cheese had hardened to the constistency of a brick. My daughter's entree of chicken and waffles arrived 25 minutes later than ours, by which time we were definitely fed up. The wait staff finally recognized our issues after basically ignoring us, and brought the manager over. He seemed concerned and offered up a reason that they were overwhelmed by "restaurant week", but this was a Thursday and didnt seem much busier than other restaurants. We also did not see any restaurant week offers on the menu. He asked if there was anything he could do, and I asked for the super-late entree price to to be comped, and he responded by comping the entire meal, a very nice gesture. I reflected this by giving 2 stars more than deserved. We tipped the wait staff 3 times what they deserved, and we sadly have to cross another Bordentown restaurant...
