I can’t say enough about Hob Tavern. We are from out of town and stayed nearby to go to six flags the next day. We’d been driving all day and couldn’t wait to have some food and drinks. When I started looking around it seemed that vegan options were non existent until I stumbled upon hob tavern. It was an easy decision to give them a try. When we walked into a sports bar type place I genuinely thought we had gone to the wrong spot. Boy was I wrong. It’s definitely a home town, sports bar, everyone knows everyone vibe - not to its detriment. The service was fast and friendly. Our bartender, Reese, was attentive and never let our drinks get low. At one point I had to wonder if he just had a backup drink lying in wait because he made it so quickly. The manager, Courtney, happened to be there and went out of her way to talk to us and welcome us. The food was incredible. I’ve eaten a lot of good and a lot of bad vegan food over the years. I’ve eaten at vegan restaurants where there are highly trained and specialized chefs who learned how to cook vegan food specifically. Hob tavern is not that place and yet - it was some of the best food I’ve ever had. My fiancé enjoyed his non vegan food as well and I was shocked to find he really enjoyed his drinks as he tends to be a little picky about how they’re made. Just speaks to the quality of the ingredients, the staff and the attention to detail by all involved. We had no plans to go to Bordentown NJ ever again and now have already worked it into our future travel plans specifically to visit Hob tavern. Whether you want to watch a game, have a drink, eat some wings or enjoy some vegan fare - - - you will not be...
Read moreWas very excited to try this tavern while in the area as it seemed to have many options for vegans. However, this ended up not being the case when ordering, as I found out the fries were not vegan because they are cooked in the same oil as the animal products. Okay, big deal, that's pretty common at omni restaurants. But when I ordered my entree, the chickpea fritters, my waiter informed me that it was same case for anything else fried. So that left ONE option marked vegan as actually being vegan: the baked tofu club. It was pretty good, but certainly not my first or second choice of dinner. Was very disappointed about the misleading menu, as I would have had no idea unless I asked about the fries. I'm sure many have assumed items marked vegan would be free of cross contamination, and would be upset to learn that their meal was cooked in the same oil as chicken wings or mozzarella sticks, especially if they have food allergies. My hope is that HOB will learn from this and use separate oil for vegan options. Or at the very least, disclose on menu about cross contamination. As it stands, I cannot recommend HOB...
Read moreStopped here for a drink and a bite. This was the most amazing experience I have had in a restaurant/bar. We walked into a full bar of cheering football fans, which was totally inviting which isn't typical as Hob definitely is THE local bar. Reese greeted us instantly and found us seats. Within minutes we had drinks in front of us that were exceptional craft cocktails. Then, Courtney strikes up a conversation with my wife who is a strict Vegan. We came in late and the menu was limited. Incredibly friendly and went out of her way to make a vegan club even though it wasn't on the latenight menu. All of the vegan food made in house. In. House. And it is better than any vegan food out there. This is coming from a vegan of 15 years. All while Reese kept drinks rolling without delay, this was a full bar too and he is 1 guy who had been working all day already. I can't say enough about how these people just blew us away. It is 6 hours from home. This is worth a long weekend just for the atmosphere and food. Perfect spot. Don't miss this one. Especially on Sunday Funday. Thank you Reese and Courtney for an...
