A Sweet Shop with a Sweeter Story
Walking into The Candy Jar by 1892 is like stepping into a whimsical world where nostalgia, craftsmanship, and family love all come together in the most delightful way. But what truly sets this charming little shop apart isn’t just the incredible selection of chocolates and candies—it’s the incredible family behind it.
Owned and operated by the Alban family, The Candy Jar is a testament to what happens when passion, tradition, and community come together. Siblings Jose and Paula Alban have created something truly special. Their deep-rooted connection to Ecuador is reflected in their rich, single-origin cacao chocolates, which Jose personally sources to ensure quality and authenticity. Paula brings the same level of care and love to the shop’s daily operations, treating every customer like an old friend.
Every visit is a warm, personal experience. Whether you’re stopping in for a chocolate-covered Oreo, a beautifully wrapped gift box, or just to browse the seasonal truffles, you’re always met with genuine kindness and a smile. The shop itself is cozy, cheerful, and filled with the kind of treats that make you feel like a kid again.
What I love most is how connected this family is to their community. They’re always participating in local events, offering raffles, and finding ways to give back. It’s clear they’re not just running a business—they’re building relationships and creating joy.
In a world full of chain stores and impersonal service, The Candy Jar by 1892 is a rare gem. If you haven’t been yet, go. Not just for the sweets (which are phenomenal), but for the chance to support a truly wonderful family doing something meaningful, delicious, and...
Read moreCame in here today with my husband on a date, because he loves getting to pick things out in candy stores. The shop is small, and didn't have the abundant selection that many places do, but he still got excited getting to pick out a handful of treats. While we didn't get to trying all of what we got yet, we tried the truffles we got on the ride home, and they were absolutely delicious. My dark chocolate tiramisu truffle wasn't overly bitter in the slightest, and had such a smooth cocoa flavor. My husband's Irish cream truffle wasn't cloyingly sweet, and likewise well balanced. You could taste the high quality chocolate which was far better than most candy stores I've been to lately, and not only can we not wait to try the rest of what we got, but also to return and get another...
