My girlfriend and I spent the weekend in Boston, and being a foodie, I love to scope out all the best places so I know ahead of time just where to go. Bogie's Place was one of those restaurants that had a very secretive aura about it, and I knew we just had to experience it first hand. Everything about the experience was wonderful. When we got to JM Curley's we told them we had reservations for Bogie's Place. Less than a minute later, our hostess came and shook our hands and greeted us and then he brought our waitress who did the same and escorted us out back to a thick drape covered doorway with an Adult's Only sign. We entered the room which was very dimly lit and helped add to the overall elusive feel of the restaurant. Once my eyes adjusted, I could see just how rare of a gem this place was. With red velvet walls, and wall sconces straight from the 1920's, it felt like we should be rubbing elbows with Bogart himself. The small intimate feel to the restaurant was amazing and our waitress was incredibly attentive. We felt like we were family from the moment we walked in! The food was absolutely delicious and cooked to pure perfection. We had the oysters, Tomahawk steak, sauteed mushrooms and sweet potato fries and everything was truly phenomenal. I highly recommend you put this on your list for must-try...
Read moreI went here for my 30th birthday tonight. If I had to describe the experience in one word: mediocre.
The waitress was not overly friendly... She was kind of standoffish. That's fine in most cases... It's not OK when the restaurant has less than 20 seats and you supposedly pride yourself on the atmosphere on your restaurant.
Our steaks were all cooked the same regardless of how we ordered them. Most ordered medium rare and my mother ordered medium-well. They all came out the same. Our medium rares were all overcooked and the medium well was undercooked. Terrible for a high end "steakhouse".
Aside from how the steaks were cooked, they were thoroughly underwhelming flavor-wise. I got the dry aged tomahawk. Absolutely no flavor from the dry aging... And all of the steaks were super thin (about half an inch thick)...pathetic for a high end "steak house". I've been to a LOT of high end steakhouses...these steaks were no better than what you find at a lot of chain restaurants.
If I had to give two sentences of advice: Don't come here. The food and service is wildly underwhelming. Honestly I have had a better steak at Longhorns. They are living off their gimmick as a "speakeasy" type place.
Avoid. It is not worth the...
Read moreTucked away in the back room of a speakeasy bar, Bogie’s place is a great place to enjoy classic steakhouse dishes. Since it shares the entrance with The Wig Shop, it may be a bit confusing, but I liked that it evoked a feeling of dining at an exclusive club. With only 4 tables and a small private booth, it also had a cozy and relaxing atmosphere, and we had a satisfying experience overall.
We started off with the steak tartare and the roasted bone marrow, and both were excellent. Steak tartare was mixed with a concoction of subtly fragrant ingredients such as the dill aioli and fennel pollen, and the capers added just the right amount of acidity. Topped with brown butter panko and persimmon mostarda, the roasted bone marrow was a pleasant surprise: slightly sweet and bitter taste from the persimmon mostarda paired well with the fatty bone marrow. The grilled ciabatta was also a perfect complement to both dishes.
On the other hand, the ribeye and the fillet mignon were good but not mindblowing. The charred flavor was a bit overwhelming on the ribeye, but the complimentary demi glace sauce and the grilled tomatoes made it better. If you're looking for a steakhouse with a cozy yet unique vibes, I would recommend...
