Made a reservation for a Friday night at 10pm for 2 people as we were visiting from out of town and this place looked amazing online. When we arrived there was already a group of 5 people waiting for their table to be ready. We checked in at 9:50pm and were told our table wasn't ready yet, no big deal because we were early.
Almost 30 minutes go by while having to constantly shuffle around the main entrance to avoid being run into by staff members and other patrons. There is really no designated waiting area and we were trying to shove 7 people there. We have also received no updates on our table and the group waiting before us had now complained. They were able to be sat a few minutes later. We overheard that their reservation was for 9:45pm and they were sat around 10:20pm. After they were sat, we were told that our table was almost ready. We finally sat down at 10:30pm. Making a reservation is a must because other groups entered and were told there would be a 2 hour wait, but even having a reservation still means a long standing wait in a cramped area. Wasn't the most comfortable experience.
We sat and our drinks and appetizer orders were taken quickly and brought out to us fast, within 10 minutes. The waitress checked on us once at the beginning while we were all set. We ate our fried pickles which were great and sipped our drinks for a while before trying to flag her down because we had still not ordered our main dish yet. We were able to get her attention and ordered at 11pm, a full hour after our reservation slot. Again, once the order was in we got our food quickly. We were able to eat at 11:15pm. Our waitress checked on us once when our food arrived and once a bit later. There was a lull and we again had to get her attention to get the check. As we waited for our check, our water glasses were refilled for the first time after our glasses being empty for over 30 minutes. At this point the restaurant was still fairly busy, but emptier than when we arrived with it being around 11:30pm. Slow service was somewhat understandable, but still disappointing.
I would also like to point out that their menu online is not up to date with pricing. This was another shock and disappointment, and seems much more avoidable. Items seemed to be anywhere from $1-$5 more expensive, which might not be a ton of money but is definitely something to note and can add up quick for larger parties. I have attached pictures for accurate pricing as of 12/6/24.
Overall, the food, atmosphere, and time between ordering and receiving was fantastic. However, the conflicting menu and slow service definitely negatively affected our experience. Making a reservation for 2 at 10pm and not getting out until around 11:40pm is not what we...
Read moreThis is the kind of place Downtown Crossing has been needing for decades. At lunch, it is a space for workers to get a quick sandwich plate or burger and maybe a surreptitious beer. Then jmCurley really comes alive after work -- it fills up instantly with people looking for an expertly made cocktail from an ever-evolving list of craft cocktails. The Temple Place G&T - made with bark powder - is my favorite variation on the classic in the entire city. Beer lovers aren't left hanging either. A handful of taps, mostly from local brewers, always offer a variety to suit most palates -- if not, their well selected bottle and can selection can definitely meet your needs. They also keep a chef's stock of 40s and tall boys for those days when that's what you really need, too. Food at dinner time includes a variety of tasty bar snacks. If the pretzels are on the menu, you need them. Same can be said for the deviled eggs. The entree list on the printed menu is very small, but it is supplemented by a list of 7 weekly specials that change (wait for it) weekly. Those specials always include a burger, a pb&j, a flavored popcorn (free!), as well as whatever chef Monsour and his team have on their minds that week. This ain't health food, folks, but it's hearty, tasty as all hell, and meant to share. In a city that has gone burger crazy, jm Curley offers 2 takes -- a smaller flat griddled patty, and a large fat grilled patty -- representing both of the major schools of burger thought. Both are excellent and you will likely gravitate to the style you ordinarily prefer. For "dessert" get a boozy concrete -- an ice cream based drink spiked with booze (and often fun accouterments like raisins soaked in so much rum they're damn near grapes again), and the skillet cornbread -- a variation on the new england version of the bread that has a pudding-like consistency perfect for dessert. After the work-crowd rush, Curleys is perfect for neighborhood denizens to stop in for dinner. Then the place explodes again as restaurant workers get off shifts across the city, as, at its core, this is an industry hangout. Any time after 10 you're likely to be rubbing elbows with the elite of the city's kitchens, just don't be a d-bag about it, as ownership is committed to keeping this place as a safe haven for those looking for an escape from nightmare customers. That said, if you're not in the industry, you are treated as if you were, and that is a wonderful feeling in a...

Everyone will love this place, hell I do and to be truthful in the manner, "I miss working for this prestigious fine dining restaurant called Bogies Place where our reservations are placed. Tucked away within the JM restaurant is our fine dining Gem, where guests order prime steaks, filet mignon, porterhouses, ny strip steaks, lamb, cavair, and complenting sides like potatoe puree, sauteed mushrooms, white wine mussels, creamy spinach and many other great dishes. This restaurant will blow you away with the precise temp meats and burgers.
