Bear with me in this diatribe, it may save you some heartache: In town for an emergency and hustling to help my sis prepare for her last minute, intimate wedding, i booked the hyatt since their presidential suite was available and large enough to accomodate the guests we planned to entertain after the ceremony. I spoke to the sales manager for details on an indoor space in case the outdoor venue for the cermony got rained out. I was assured I did not need to pay for an early check in or book the night prior to secure the room as they would block it and i "could check in as early" as I wanted. I booked other rooms and a smaller suite for family as well. I never received a call back from the sales manager with details and/or confirmation so left a meassage for restaurant manage who also did not return my call. There was no bell service or valet at check in but concierge was very kind and helped with my bags. I requested a luggage rack, towels and glasses through the front desk. Instead of apologizing that my room had not been refreshed or thoroughly cleaned before check in, I was rudely questioned on why i needed a rack and they would check on glasses through bar. The toilet was dirty and there was used floss on the bench but housekeeping was unavailable and it was not cleaned until the am. there were also old, sticky stains which is never reassuring nd even less so during COVID. I went to get the key for presidential suite at 11am as confirmed a week ahead, reconfirmed day prior and at check in. I was told they sold the room the night before and added late check out at 4p with time needed after housekeeping. I was shocked bc they had aready guaranteed me the room. This wrecked our plans as we had expected to host in the room much earlier. The manger comped the suite next door to allow us to prep there. In this suite, there was a musty smell, stains from used glasses and the AC did not work. I booked some other rooms, totalling 6 to accomodate other invitees since the day was going much longer than anticipated since we had to delay as we waited for the presidential suite and to prep it. The AC did not work in the presidential suite during the heatwave in Boston and the engineer had to dismantle and replace the system during the event. One of the toilets did not flush, I waited 4 hours after calling multiple times to have my room cleaned and they had to clean as bride was dressing. There was no room service, no one to deliver hospitality items to room, no housekeeping for intermittent issues, and rooms are incredibly dated from a decor and tech standpoint with no bluetooth, streaming or ancillary connectivity. If it was not for the great location in the heart of downtown, the wonderful service offered by bell and concierge service when they are available and accomodations made by one manager, Tristen, and the World of Hyatt customer service email response team, I would give one star and never consider staying with Hyatt ever again. This was a far cry from the service and cleanliness expected in a budget hotel much less from one of...
Read moreChecked in solo for a convention this past weekend. Most of this is going to be negative, but I wanted to say upfront that the general service at the hotel was absolutely wonderful. Everyone I talked to was very polite and helpful, the individual clientele did a great job. No problems there. There are lots of nice restaurants nearby too, so that's good.
Unfortunately, the room was easily the least comfortable hotel room that I've stayed in in the past five years.
The bed was very hard and the pillows felt like cinder blocks. I woke up in pain early in the morning on my first night because they were so uncomfortable. I was too groggy to find a fancy solution, so I just upturned my suitcase and used my clean clothes as a pillow instead. And y'know what? It was much nicer than the pillow! I ended up doing that for the next few nights as well, and every time I was like "Well maybe I'm just misremembering, the pillow couldn't be THAT bad..." I would try it again and give up the second my neck touched the case.
The room came with chairs and a small table. The table was too low to the ground and the chairs were too high up to do any sort of work on them and there was no formal desk of any kind. I'm sure the table would be fine for setting some drinks on it, but if you wanted to get anything done on a laptop for a business trip or something similar you'd have a rough time of it. There are some small desks in the lobby that work a little better, but they're still not very comfy.
The water has visible white silt in it that settles to the top of the glass and floats there. It also tastes like hydrogen peroxide! So that's nice and gross!
There's a restaurant with weird, blue lighting that serves dinner. I stopped in there the first night and got some passable calamari for probably twice what it was worth. Everything on the menu was bonkers expensive and-- again-- the tables and chairs were WAY too low if you wanted to sit in them for any length of time. I'd avoid this restaurant since there are dozens of neat little places within 20 minutes of walking distance.
So, overall, the location and staff are really good at this hotel. If all you're looking for is a little home base to fall asleep in at the end of the night after a day out in Boston, this place might work for you.
If you're like me and enjoy periodically returning your room to relax or do some work during the day, I would NOT recommend the Hyatt Regency at ALL. I just got back home, sat in the first chair I saw, and had the realization that the worst chair in my house is the nicest thing I have sat...
Read moreMy family has stayed in suites all over the place and I've got to say that this one was not up to par and was mysteriously lacking in amenities that I'd consider to be standard. The suite had one spacious bathroom, a bedroom with a king-sized bed, and a sitting area with a pull-out couch. The bedroom had an easy chair in it, an area outside of the bathroom (accessible through the bedroom only) had a bench beneath a bar to hang clothing, and that was literally ALL of the furniture in the suite. There were no other chairs, no coffee/end/bistro table, no dressers; even the "nightstands" were floating shelves. The restaurant and express food counter sell take-out, but there was nowhere for our family of 4 to eat it comfortably in the suite since the only makeshift tables and chairs are the beds. The other truly bizarre feature of the suite is that both the bathroom door and the door dividing the bedroom from the sitting room are translucent barn doors. Each door is suspended on a rail above the doorway and slides over the opening. There is no seal when the doors are closed and because the doors are essentially frosted glass, light and sound travel right through them. This means there is no privacy available in the suite; a skimpy locker room curtain would do the job equally. So... if you're the kind of parents who delight in hearing every gastrointestinal function of your closest ones, enjoy listening to every change of a maxi-pad, and thrive on keeping the kids up late because you persist in keeping the light on in your closed-door bedroom, this might be the hotel for you. Comments I've read in other reviews are also true: non-existent housekeeping (We were told at check-in that our room would be made up on the 4th day, but it was never made up during our stay.), low water pressure, thin walls. Pros: Good food and attentive staff at the restaurant, on-site parking (self or valet), and great location.
Update: Just happened upon this review again and I see that the hotel responded, saying that after hearing my complaints they upgraded my family to a VIP suite. What??? We never switched rooms. We were not upgraded at all; that's just completely untrue. We stayed in the same room, calling the front desk to request more toilet paper every other day, for our...
