Charlie's Pizza & Cafe — Restaurant in Boston

I've been to Charlie's in the past and would've rated it as adequate- at best. However, my last experience there has turned me off for good.

I ordered a steak tip salad for take-out. Once I got there, I was told my food would be ready in a moment, and I could hear the man taking the steak tips off the grill. There was someone else on the phone with someone, arguing. After some time, he slammed the phone down and started yelling about the person on the other end of the phone and complaining. A customer that was there took offense to something said by the employee, got up, and started arguing with the workers about something relating to race. It was very tense and unprofessional for the employees to continue the argument.

When the argument was over, I finally received my food. The food was a huge disappointment. There were about 2 steak tips cut up, the steak was cold having sat on the counter for so long, the red onion on the salad was frozen and in one single separated slice, and the lettuce was a dry, frost-burned iceberg. I did not see either of the men working smile once.

Atmosphere- 1/10: hostile and unfriendly. Food- 2/10: unsatisfying Customer Service- 2/10: Unfriendly, unprofessional, argumentative and rude.

I will not be dining...

Third time ordering an Italian sub and receiving not what i ordered. I wouldn't be too upset if the food wasnt over priced and the ingredients smelled fresh, which they rarely do. The weirdest part is I never asked for mayo and its on the sub everytime despite the fact that they never put what i want on the sandwich. Im pretty upset that i paid this business yet again to dissapoint me. Its a pizza shop with a variety of sandwiches, yet sadly the only cheese they have is provolone and American cheese, which is trash. What is on the pizza? Can i get that? Overall not too bad if food youre just looking for quick eats, but if youre looking for food worth its price I'd go elsewhere. In the future if youre not going to make the order as requested, you should give a heads up to the person ordering. Also it would be wise to not put extra toppings that were not asked for on the food. I dont like mayo, and im pretty upset I tipped before checking of my order was correct. Although the pizza is pretty good, but not worth an over priced slice.The people behind the counter can seem unapproachable at times.

I’ve been coming to Charlie’s for a moment now and today I learned the handsome Italian behind the counter is actually Charlie himself. He asked me if I was okay bc I was feeling sad which was nice. But the more I learned about him was the most intriguing. I don’t know about y’all but I appreciate those who open their own business and he is doing a wonderful hardworking job ~ Most pizzas or in my case all of the pizzas I’ve ever ordered have come directly from Charlie in the hardworking he’s invested in his kitchen. This is the definition of supporting local but supporting locals that were proud to have in Alston. This is the American dream and for all you dreamers out there with a hungry appetite and a heart felt Dedication to keeping Alston it’s unique self this is definitely the pizza place for you, and you, and you, and myself, but mostly you. I’d give more stars if possible but for now five will do. I have no patience for people who order Domino’s because domino well Always be fine but it’s not the corporations we need to support it’s wonderful people like the family run Charlie’s right...
