The food was delicious. The atmosphere and look of the restaurant is very beautiful and inviting. The hostess had a slight attitude when we first went in, but she seemed to be getting calls left and right so chalked it up to being busy. The service at first was great - friendly, inviting, and again, the food was delicious. Everything I ate was delicious. But by the middle of the meal, it was clear that the staff was swamped. We ordered four tapas, which came at very different times - we'd order one tapas dish, finish it, and then have to sit and wait ten more minutes for another small plate of food. We decided to order two more items after our initial order, a small paella dish and another tapas plate. They let us know it would take about 20 minutes, which we were fine with. Well, both the tapas and the paella dish came 30 minutes later and the paella was dry. When we were done, we waited for a check for another 30 minutes. We had asked for it, waited, and then I had to flag down another staff member for the check. This is where it was confusing because I was then asked to go to the front to get my check? I didn't understand at first but she came back and told us we had to go upfront. Everyone else had received their checks at the table but alright. We go up front at the bar and had to wait another five minutes before someone asked what we needed, to which I said we needed the check. Arrived at 6:45, left at 8:45pm. Ate for only an hour and the other hour was waiting. And this was a Monday night, so not sure how they'll handle busy nights on the weekend. Very disappointed because I loved the food but the service left a bad taste in my mouth and we will not...
Read moreI've been to many Spanish tapas restaurants both in Spain and in Boston (Toro and Barcelona), in addition to many non-Spanish tapas-style restaurants. This was a good meal, not a great meal.
Came here with one other person on a Friday night at 7:45 and didn't have to wait.
Setting/Ambiance: Very traditional Spanish with wood everywhere. Dimly lit.
Service: Very friendly, dishes came out very quickly as well.
Food: They have quite a large menu which made it hard to decide but they had lots of traditional options like patatas bravas. However, nothing that I ordered made me say "wow"...it was all tasty but nothing very noteworthy. I had a difficult time deciding which one was my favorite but nothing really stood out. See pictures for all the dishes we ordered below.
Gambas al Ajillo - sizzling shrimp in spicy olive oil...tasty but not the best shrimp I've had
Pinch de Pollo - Grilled chicken skewer on top of a piece of bread (didn't really need the bread)...meat was slightly dry
Patatas Bravas - really good but not the best I've had. Really hard to mess up fried potatoes
Txistorras a la Cidra - ordered these little chorizo sausages on the recommendation of the waiter and they were good, not great. Slightly dry but great flavor.
Calamar a la Parrilla con Aioli Verde - grilled squid was somewhat chewy but still tasty
Beef empanadas - really flavorful and not juicy!
Value: I will say that Tasca is definitely on the cheaper side which makes sense because it's in Brighton vs. downtown Boston.
Overall: Not a bad meal but definitely not worth schlepping out to Brighton for if you live in...
Read moreCame with group of four and left very bewildered. Prices don’t seem bad for individual tapas, but the portions are very small. This is fine for tapas obviously, but the price will balloon quite quickly when you get multiple.
Tried:
Shrimp (spicy+ non spicy): overcooked. Not very great.
Beef empanada: if not for the sauce i’d say an average cafe can serve better ones. The sauce was tasty but the empanada was bland.
House salad: fine
Cheese balls: they served us four and each one of tried one. We all have varying tastes and are pretty worldly. Every single one of us made a face on our bites. Extremely bewildering menu choice since honestly I don’t think it was prepared poorly or anything but actually meant to taste like this. I would not recommend this at all.
Brie: best thing we got, but cmon, what does that say?
Potatos: unsalted and undercooked. I did really like the sauce though.
Ratatouille: fine. Honestly not my favorite dish in general but my friends who like it said it was mid.
Overall: this place scrapes by a 1 star on two fronts: atmosphere and dining experience was pleasant and I did actually think their sauces were pretty good. It’s a shame the food doesn’t match. If you want to come here and split a cheese board or something it’s decent enough, but you’re really paying for the atmosphere at that point. I would not recommend this place to anyone and definitely will not be returning.
Staff is friendly and nice! Not...
