I have been a frequent customer at Fornax for well over a decade. I have always been a fan of the delicious sandwiches, salads and homemade soups (butternut squash soup my favorite) When COVID hit I stopped being in the area. Well in December my foster daughter started play therapy at The Home for Little Wanderers on American Legion. Stopped by Fornax a few times to get a chicken salad. Chicken was very dry and they forgot to add dressing šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļøšŸ„“. 2nd time same dry chicken and forgot some ingredients that I was able to correct before I headed home in the South End. 3rd salad I was pretty mad and called the bakery. I know The owner Kim and asked to speak to her. Welp...found out Fornax was sold and under new ownership🫣😭😭. No more Kim😭😭. Not sure what is going on with the new owners but I'm not feeling it. That chicken on the mixed green salad is like chicken chips. Please fix this. Also my delicious bread got moldy after 2 daysšŸ™„šŸ«¤. Maybe they are working out the kinksšŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļø. Soup was good, sandwich was good Lil Skippy on the salami. Staff was nice and helpful. I had plans to ask Kim for the butter nut Squash recipe😭😭. Can't believe your gone Kim. I feel like this, if your not going to stick to good quality like Kim always did change the name. Fix the chicken. It's dry AF. Best wishes to Kim and her...

I have been going to this bakery for many years. There is a mystique about going to a bakery rather than buying bread from the supermarket. The decor in this place certainly contributes to the ambience of baking bread in your home. That said I no longer want to patronize this establishment’s for the following reasons. 1. If you decide to eat in the tables are always filthy and full of debris crumbs what have you: I have never ever seen anyone come from behind the counter to sweep the floor and wipe the tables down from one customer to the next. More importantly the menu is horrible and the food poorly prepared. I recently ordered a bacon & egg sandwich with cheese. The sandwich had a single egg and two thin slices of bacon nestled between two extremely thick pieces of bread. I also had a piece of coffee cake that was extremely dry and bordered on stale, perhaps cooked several days prior to the purchase. Item on the menu are extremely expensive and do not align with the quality. Clean the dam place up, for God’s sake you pass yourself off as a bakery. Given your pricing, location, you have som major improvements that are long over due. Spoken from a person who have patronized you establishment...

The Hope Diamond of Roslindale, Fornax bakes fabulous breads (including multigrain, Irish soda, French, etc) , cookies, pies, cakes etc , serves delicious healthy soups, salads, sandwiches, quiche, pizzas, etc and tasty coffees and tea. All this in an eclectic and cozy Parisian like cafe setting , welcoming all walks of life to buy bread and sandwiches or sit and visit together over hearty lunches or simple snacks. Furthermore, Chris and Kim , the baker owner operaters who themselves live in the neighborhood , are wonderful bosses who hire , train and promote locals, a diverse group of residents including generations of toddlers who grew up coming here as children, later getting after school jobs and for those who leave for college, often continuing here during summers or upon graduation, treasuring the skills and community on display here. Go there throughout the seasons, to warm up with coffee or soup on a cold day, or sip iced tea and eat salad in the outdoor parklet during the summer, Fornax is...

Little country style bakery in Roslindale. Glad that an independent bakery like this is doing well despite all the Tattes and Flour that are dominating greater Boston. That being said, I think I would only maybe go here again if I happened to be in the neighborhood. There are plenty of freshly baked options which is nice but the quality of the items I wish were better. The baguette was far from a baguette, more like a long version of a grocery store Italian loaf. Decent chew and so I decided to use it for a sub. The English muffins did not resemble or taste anything like what you would associate them to be. I would have tried their semi-sourdough but it was already sold out by mid morning. I felt like I was in a quaint town in Connecticut when walking in. Sure, I'll support them and try it out again, but I will have to think hard as to what to purchase.

When Fornax first opened in Roslindale, we were thrilled! I still am so grateful to have a bakery in my neighborhood. However, the recipes have changed with new ownership. The olive bread, for example, used to be loaded with juicy pieces of olive. After all, you pay for it! The past two times I have treated myself to a loaf of olive bread, I have had a hard time to even find olives. It’s more like they grate a few olives in to be able to call it olive bread. Examine the photo below, do you see any real pieces of olive? The whole loaf is like this! To the new owner – please improve your recipes! The sourdough should taste more like sourdough, also.

Rough. Was so excited. Just needed bread to make garlic bread with pasta… At the cash register I decided to treat myself to a chocolate chip cookie. It was terrible. Dry. Hard. Cashier said - oh, those were baked on Sunday - it was now Wednesday. I asked for a different cookie. I thought I’d try an oatmeal raisin. Cashier said - oh, people don’t like those. Ugh. I ended up with a giant Oreo. It was meh. Got a batard for garlic bread… I’d give it a 7 out of 10? It was a day old too, as per my cashier… So, not fresh. Not good.
