Buffet is held every 3rd Sunday of each month. Sometimes the Boston Vegetarian Society holds meetings here. Plutarch said "So much suffering of pain for a taste on the tongue." There were vegetarians and vegans in ancient times. The cost is around $12. I can eat about 7 plates of food from the buffet I am averaging. I look forward to bringing one of my best friends here soon for the buffet. I like the dish called the 'awesome family' which includes asparagus in black bean sauce and tofu along with seitan it takes like steak but it is only made from plants. The soups are also good. I have enjoyed the won ton soup and the hot and sour soup.
I am now only eating in vegan restaurants and hoping for a vegan supermarket. It would be nice to see more crowds during other times when the buffet is not being put on in order to keep the restaurant afloat. They do a lot of takeout orders however. I'm always pleased with what I order. Although it is fried I do like the tofu 'chicken' fried in batter kind of like a corn dog accompanied with sauce. The menu is extensive although I tend to stay with dishes I know I already like. The buffet includes hot and sour soup and miso soup. Appetizers are won tons, spring rolls, and chicken corndogs with tofu in the center. The entrees include a veggie dish with a variety of vegetables and the other is a broccoli beef as far as I remember. I like the bamboo shoots in the latter...
Read moreHad an amazing dinner for four at this vegan restaurant last night - and none of us was even vegan. My wife joked beforehand about whether we would still be hungry and need to get "real food" afterward. But there was so much variety and creativity in the menu and drinks it was hard to narrow down our order, though our waiter was very helpful. The food came very fast, and in such abundance, all talk about eating afterward vanished.
And it was all really, really good! They have a variety of proteins some of which make very good "fake meat" from beef to squid. And terrific preparations from kale sautees to deep fried "General Gao" style. Vegetables are of course plentiful, and perfectly cooked. Spice balance is excellent. Drinks are delicious - I had a smooth and creamy soy shake with avocado, my wife a refreshing fruity ginger concoction.
Unfortunately there was no room for dessert - I had been eying the vegan cheesecake but made the mistake of finishing my entrée which was really too much food. Next time one entrée per couple, or more doggie bags.
And there will definitely be a next time and many more! I'd like to make this a frequent habit, at least until we run through the 80 different menu options and multiple specials... Very highly recommended, even for...
Read moreOne of my favorite vegan Asian restaurants in Boston - amazing food quantity & quality and service.
Have been here twice - got the lemongrass seitan lunch special the first time, which was generously portioned and tasty. The hot and sour soup that came with was just the right amount of spicy and acidic. I couldn't believe it was less than $8 before tax and tip!
The second time, I came with a friend, and we ordered the sizzling plate dinner platter (it was lunch, but the dinner platter is available at all times, and adds soup, salad, and white or brown rice for $3 total). We also got the vermicelli with "chicken" (#42). The sizzling plate was delicious, with just the right balance of veggies and substitute meats. The vermicelli was not quite as good, as the noodles were plain with some sauce, and only lettuce and carrots as vegetables - I was expecting the noodles to be fried. The dish was still tasty, but I wouldn't get it again.
Overall, still an amazing spot. The staff are very kind and helpful in suggesting what to order, the setting is nice and well-lit, and the food is really unique and filling. Will definitely be a regular...
