Never felt so disrespected in my entire life. We called to make sure they were open and have crab legs, then walked 28 min to the restaurant. Once we got there, we were told we'd have to wait 30min because they had no tables. The Asian woman working the hostess counter said we could wait outside but it's cold so I asked if we could wait inside near the window. She said they would rather us wait outside. My girlfriend really wanted to try it so I decided to just order takeout. Immediately afterwards, 2 people leave their table and exit the restaurant. I look back through the window and now there's a table empty and the hostess didn't even come outside to ask us if we wanted to take the table and have our already paid for food served to us at the table instead. Not even 1 minute later, two females walk into the restaurant, sit at the bench near the window then are eventually taken to that new empty table while we waited outside in the cold. To top it ALL of, we were watching the hostess bag food and instead of bringing our order outside to us she dropped a bunch of bags on a middle table inside and we stared through the window confused as to what was going on. Eventually, my girlfriend walks in to look at the bagged orders and confirmed ours was just sitting there for minutes getting cold while we already now have to walk back in 30 degree weather for 28min again to get back home. The hostess never said a word. I am having trouble finding employment in this town right now and I'm beyond shocked that someone like her has a job when I would have taken care of the customer 100x better. On top of that, we paid $50+ for this??? One piece of corn, BARELY any crab leg, cold fries for $6.95??? Are you joking??? Everyone here should be fired. Unbelievable. Never coming...
Read moreOne of the best restaurants in Boston I've been to in the past couple of years.
Eating in a restaurant isn't just about consuming food - it's the whole package: the ambiance, the people, the experience and of course, in the end, the food.
First, the food was amazing. I'm a huge seafood fan and can be selective when it comes to restaurants that specialize in seafood. Also, I'm generally reluctant to try new places because of my delicate tastebud, but the perfectly cooked crab, shells and shrimp forced me to devour without me recognizing how fast I was eating! The sauce was spicy but in a tasty way, and by the end of the meal, couldn't help but yell out, "holly crab!!!" (Despite how cheesy that sounds...)
Second, the experience itself was fun! As much as I first didn't like the idea of eating out of a plastic bag using my hands, the whole package was sufficient to keep me perfectly clean even though eating like this can get messy! I was pleasantly flabbergasted!! I think the set up they have created is a phenomenal and clever one, and family gatherings can be really fun with so much action involved in eating :)
Lastly, the staff were really nice!! I consider this to be really important, because we are receiving a form of "service" by going to restaurants. Even if a restaurant has amazing food, I cease to go after trying couple of times if I realize that the people do not have service-oriented minds. This place knew how to treat their customers right.
All in all, one of handful of places I would give five stars and even bother to write a review on in Boston. I'm originally from New York and always complain about the food here in Boston, but this will now be my go-to place whenever I'm craving seafood or if friends visit...
Read moreDisappointing and frustrating experience with Holly Crab, Allston today! A dear friend and I had dinner, and we both ordered fried shrimp and an 8pc order of wings. We felt bamboozled once the fried shrimp arrived because they were frozen, out of a box. The breading was very much like the coating on frozen fish sticks! I asked just to confirm “Are the shrimp out of the box?” Waiter replied “Yup, out of the box.”
Our individual order of wings arrived post 30 minutes into this disappointing dinner! The wings are clearly supposed to be Korean style fried chicken but were so off!! They must’ve been fried in old, burnt oil because the taste was….burnt fried chicken, and there wasn’t an option for extra sauce on the side because per the waiter/ host “it’s oil based so like we can’t give it to you.”
Despite politely expressing our displeasure with our food, the waiter/host seemingly could’ve cared less. He was unaccommodating with a rude disposition.
Lastly, it is freezing in this restaurant! Uncomfortably cold to be clear! Imagine being cold, waiting patiently for your meal, anticipating fresh fried seafood and saucy, fresh Korean fried wings that could possibly make-up for the lack of heat in the place. …And you get what we got! Boxed seafood and wings fried in old oil! Soy garlic where?!
I suggest Capt Loui if you’re looking for Cajun seafood boils and fried seafood that...
