I rarely post negative reviews, but this one deserves to be posted. We visited the JP Licks on Boylston Street around 11:50 PM, 10 minutes before closing to buy some dessert. The door was open, so we walked in, assuming they were still serving. It was our anniversary, and I was there with my husband and one of our friends. We were in a good mood, laughing and casually deciding between some pre-packaged desserts. The male staff member politely told us we could still make a purchase.
As we were about to pay, we simply asked if the chocolate croissant (still listed on the board) was available. Out of nowhere, a female staff member began shouting at us, saying they were closed and we needed to leave. We tried to explain that her colleague had already said we could buy something, but she ignored us and kept yelling for no reason. Worse, she then mocked our friend who has dyslexia, telling him to "learn how to speak clearly." It was cruel, completely unprofessional, and deeply offensive. Then, the male staff member who had agreed to serve us snatched the cookie away and told us to leave as well.
A third staff member came out and tried to calm things down. He agreed we had done nothing wrong, and even acknowledged that the female server's behavior was racist but still asked us to leave without any apology or resolution.
As Indians, we felt racially targeted and disrespected. We were polite, peaceful, and simply trying to buy pre-packaged items nothing that required preparation. We were ready to pay and leave quietly, but instead we were shouted at, mocked, and kicked out.
This was not just bad service ,it was a completely humiliating experience on what should have been a happy night. Until JP Licks holds this location accountable and ensures their staff treats all customers with basic dignity and respect, I will not return and advise everyone against returning here. I don't even want to give this place a single star, but have to give it in order to be able to post...
Read moreI had a very negative experience here. The employee who helped acted like me ordering ice cream was the hardest task ever given to him in life. He kept loudly sighing, rolling his eyes, and generally being a jerk through the duration of my order. I would like to note that the other employees seemed nice but the one who “helped” us (if you can actually call what he did help) does not have the right attitude for the service industry. I expect to not be treated like I am a waste of someone’s time when I am paying $10 for ice cream and literally just trying to order two flavors. This experience was very frustrating and makes me incredibly hesitant to go back to any JP Licks location. As someone who has worked in the service industry myself I cannot fathom behaving like this...
Read moreSo you are in Boston, and it's past 10.30 pm, you just had dinner and everything seems to be shutting down on a weekday.
You crave ice cream and a Boston institution peeks at you.
The service is excellent. My ice creamery expert recommended the dairy free options that qualify for chocoholics anonymous - lots of chocolate, coffee and similar flavors.
The one weird thing is you cannot see your ice cream. They kind of hide it, unlike other great ice cream places that are proud to display how the cookie dough sticks out of peanut butter.
Other than the vanishing act, the ice cream flavors were top notch, fairly priced and just the thing to enjoy on a freezing...
