I ordered a breakfast and dinner from this restaurant.
I ordered a Chicken Parm, Steak and Cheese, a broccoli and chicken soup, mash potatoes, and a fat boy.
First, let me begin by saying that about half way into the meal, I was struggling to find anything wrong with it. I'm usually a picky eater, and being a cook myself, it's often easy to give criticism than receive them.
Fat Boy, beautifully put together, the presentation was absolutely marvelous. The meat was a little overdone, I'm more of a rare person myself, but they still were able to maintain the juicy center of the burger, and cook the sides evenly. The bun was perfectly toasted, and the assortments of extras were placed perfectly on the side.
Steak and cheese, a lot of the time, I see people make a very simple mistake of letting the steak coddle the fats outside the edges of the bread. This makes the bread soggy, and makes the sandwich fall apart easily. A good cook will keep the integrity of the bread by toasting it before hand, giving it that tough crunchy interior, while wrapping the interiors by a good cheddar or swiss blend. They did this, and it made the experience so much better.
Chicken Parm, the chicken was a little dry, I would have expected more of a blast of flavor coming from the chicken. Perhaps experiment a little with garlic, and other herbs, that'll make it pop. Breaded chicken was beautifully cooked, not overdone at all, and the sauce compliments it well. You can tell the sauce isn't really homemade, but either way, for the price you get, it's not like you're eating at a luxury restaurant.
The soup was amazing, I would highly recommend it and the mash potatoes were kind of dry.
Overall, I think this is a good restaurant to order from. I don't have any opinion on the staff or the...
Read moreI practically lived there on weekends & for as long as I can remember. I watched as Jim and Nick grow into Men, talked with Nick Sr at the window table, I called their cashier mother "Mom". I believe that Ive taken, or joined for a meal, just about everyone I've ever known- including my brother visiting from Philly, to J8ms for brunch. When my dog became a Serice Dogg, hed join us. Then the idiot Pandemic changed everything. Other bad things followed .. So, here we are late August 2022 and I had a craving for a sandwich. Web surfing for sandwich delivery (?), I stumbled upon Jim's and it was a no-brainer. I had what I typically ordered in the good old days delivered to my home. The Driver came b4 45 min.est, and he went "above & beyond for me". The Food: No matter which site you use, regardless who cooks, serves or drives, take-out,esp. hot food, is never as good as in person. However, after a few bites, I was in Mr. Sherman's, Way Back, Time Machine and I was in a Green booth, surrounded by happy chatter, when at least 3 guys cooking like madmen behind the glass. Loving the long lines of folks waiting to order, we always made new friends. I went back to a time when life was normal and weekly visits to Jims was part of life. The food is as great as I remembered, too!. The one drawback today was that my heart ached for times gone by, esp. the loss of my dogg, my constant companion for 17.5 years, a true people magnet. My meal(s) ordered 2, one for later, is as good as we all agreed upon back in the day. I'm absolutely stuffed, only wishing that I had a mug of their excellent coffee, too. It worms my heart to learn that my local eatery, from happier times, survived The Curse of Rona & her subsequent evil sisters. Thanks for being, Jim's Deli. Holly...
Read moreHands down the BEST diner in Boston and all of eastern Massachusetts, maybe even the entire state!
I've never left this place disappointed, well let me rephrase that I always leave extremely satisfied yet slightly sad because I couldn't eat more, haha! The portions are generous and always homemade and priced accordingly. If you've eaten here in the past break your habit of getting your favorite sandwich and try their lunch specials, they're fantastic! Their Mac 'n' cheese sells out quickly but they've usually got another tray in the oven getting gooey and delicious for when the current dish runs out (which is fast and often). My personal favorite sandwich is the bunker buster it's large and in charge and leaves me full but again sad that it's gone. Don't try saving a table because they won't let you, but there are plenty (unless you're there on a Sunday morning when all the college kids are hungover 😝), it's first come (with food in hand) first serve for tables. The breakfast is always fresh, hot and super tasty and always hitting all the right spots.
The service is fast and friendly and you can even catch Jim himself making you your new favorite meal. If you can't decide on what you want just ask and the cooks are always up to help you make the decision. They don't push price, only what you're in the mood for.
Do yourself a favor and try this establishment you...
