Been hearing allll the hype about Levain’s cookies so I ordered some online and settled on a bundle of a 4-pk of the Chocolate Lovers. I didn’t feel like standing in their massive line on Newbury Street during these chilly days we’ve been having, but will definitely update my review when I do.
The packaging when it came in was cute, had their signature blue drawing designs on it. Customer service was great, they’re on top of the notifications on letting you know when they got your order, when your cookies are baking, getting shipped out, out for delivery and when to expect them.
The directions for how to best enjoy the cookies are instructed as follows: heat them up in the oven at 350 for 5-10 minutes or until warm and gooey. I didn’t do this. I just wanted to go right in. Opened the cellophane bag and immediately started drooling. Lucky the camera got to eat first on these!
Okay so something to be aware of is that Levain’s style of cookie is slightly gooey in the center while being crispy on the outer edges. And they’re also thickkkkkk. Like about 6oz heavy, EACH! So that explains the higher cost. It’s definitely a hefty like massive cookie. Is it worth the hype? Let’s dive into that.
Chocolate Lovers 4-ok comes with two chip chocolate chip cookies and two dark chocolate chocolate chip cookies.
The two chip chocolate chip cookies were delicious, but I gotta say they had my heart with the usage of both semi-sweet and dark chocolate chips for a richer depth of chocolate flavor without being too overwhelming in a every bite. Little crunchy when you initially bit in, but ooey gooey deliciousness as your teeth sank into the center. Just divine.
The dark chocolate chip cookies were my absolute kryptonite. I’m a huge chocolate girl, specifically dark chocolate. These baddies were made with LOVE, extra dark French cocoa, and semisweet chocolate chips and lemme tell ya I almost shoved the whole rest of the 5oz right in my mouth after that first bite cause that gooey center was unreal. Consider this chocoholic satiated! Delicious! I wish I waited to pop these in the oven for the full epic experience, but honestly I had a fabulous time drinking my iced coffee and having two of these. It was definitely a treat, and one everyone should indulge in. Self-care is important and I highly recommend giving these...
Read moreI first heard about Levain Bakery about five years ago while watching YouTube videos. People raved about this amazing cookie from New York, claiming it was worth waiting hours for. The videos showed people lining up around the corner for what was supposed to be one of the best cookies in the world.
Unfortunately, my experience at the Boston location didn't live up to the hype. I'm docking one star right away because the cookie was not warm and gooey. Those YouTube videos set an expectation for a warm, gooey cookie, and I had read online that, because they make the cookies throughout the day, there was a good chance I’d get one fresh out of the oven. However, at this location, it seemed like the manager might have decided to make a large batch ahead of time for efficiency. This is just speculation; I don’t know the exact circumstances or how rare it is to get a warm cookie there.
On a taste level, I'm deducting another two stars, bringing my rating to two out of five. This cookie is supposed to be one of the best of all time, so the drop-off in expectations was significant. Instead of an exceptional flavor, I found the cookie to be exceedingly ordinary. I expected something extraordinary, but it tasted very normal. In fact, the cookie I make at home using Tasty's Perfect Cookie Recipe is much better, and I use basic store-bought ingredients. It didn't taste like they used brown butter or a special type of chocolate. I don't know the specifics of their recipe, but it certainly didn't taste special.
Two out of five stars might seem harsh, like something you'd expect for a Subway in Alabama. However, the drastic drop-off from the sky-high expectations played a huge role in my overall assessment of...
Read moreLevain Bakery in Boston exceeded all expectations with its delectable treats. During our visit, we indulged in their renowned chocolate chip cookies, sampling both the classic chocolate chip and the equally enticing chocolate chip walnut variations. From the first bite, it was evident that these cookies were a cut above the rest.
The aroma alone was enough to make one's mouth water, and the taste was nothing short of exceptional. The cookies boasted a perfect balance of textures, with a crispy exterior giving way to a soft and gooey center. The chocolate chips were generously distributed throughout, ensuring every bite was a delightful explosion of flavor.
The chocolate chip cookie was a nostalgic twist on a beloved classic, while the chocolate chip walnut provided an extra layer of richness and depth. Each cookie managed to strike the ideal equilibrium between sweetness and the slight bitterness of the chocolate, resulting in a taste that was both indulgent and satisfying.
Even now, as I recount the experience, I find my mouth watering at the mere memory of those exquisite treats. Levain Bakery's dedication to quality and taste is evident in every aspect of their cookies, from the ingredients to the impeccable baking process. Without a doubt, Levain Bakery has solidified its place as a must-visit destination for dessert enthusiasts in Boston, leaving an unforgettable and tantalizing impression that lingers long after the last crumb has...
