My fiance and I drove two hours to mass for date night because we were craving Dominican food and there's nothing in our area. The rice and beans and coconut sauce were amazing but I was really disappointed with the service. Our waitress greeted our table and got us water and we were going to order la insuperable for us both to share and the waitress said she could make it a smaller version considering it is supposedly a dish for 20ppl. I told her it's ok if it takes longer since I know it's a larger amount of food. We were happy with that and she brought us our rice and beans first and it was great. Fast forward literally an hour and 30min later and she hasn't looked in our direction, refilled waters, or brought us the rest of our food. One of the other waitresses went over to her to let her know we looked like we were waiting for something and turns out she never put in the rest of our order and just forgot about us completely. We were really disappointed and paid for our beans and left. After a long day I don't think we'll ever drive that far for date night again.

I have been here three times and the food is amazing! This time I took my parents with me. They ordered their usual plates. I wanted to try the lobster rice. I was wowed! Usually when have seafood dishes the plate comes out salt forward. However my rice came out perfect. Delicious and full of flavor. Not dry. Ordered a side of fried plantains. I always eat good with their healthy portions and pricing is fair for the quality of food. The bad apart of it is the servers. Our first server must have been having a bad day. She forgot to bring silverware for 3. Threw a menu at the table. We immediately asked for another server and they made it happen. Smooth sailing from there! I would recommend this to anyone looking for authentic spanish cuisine! Plus the artwork there is inspiring. #DiamondSquad

I recently dined at the Merengue Restaurant in Boston and was blown away by the authentic flavors and lively atmosphere. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, recommending their top dishes which did not disappoint. I particularly enjoyed the Bistec Encebollado, which were both delicious and cooked to perfection. The conversation and recommendation from Amelia added an extra layer of excitement to the already lively atmosphere. I can't wait to go back and try everything on the menu. If you're looking for a fun and delicious dining experience, Merengue Restaurant is a must-visit. Thank you Amelia.

I usually love the food here but after my experience last night I will not be returning. I had ordered off Grubhub and what I wanted which was the tostones relleno de camarones was not offered online I selected just camarones monfongo as a meal it cost $23. I called merengues to see if they could change the order to what I originally wanted since it wasn't offered on Grubhub --- it was $18 for the tostones relleno de camarones and I told her I didn't want my money back I just wanted her to change the order to what I want. Crystal said of course and she was happy to change it for me. Also on grub hub I had ordered the langosta al gusto for $20 with white rice and beans. When my boyfriend went to pick up the food, after given an estimated time of being ready by 8:10pm it still was not ready. Besides that I understand it's a busy night. When I received the food, it was the camarones mofongo and I was so disappointed and there were no beans for the langosta al gusto. I called back and crystal picked up the phone and I explained my situation to her and asked if I could have them cook the tostones relleno de camarones for me bc that's what I really wanted. I told her I'd bring it back so she could see. She responded that whoever was there said they couldn't cook it until I showed them it was the wrong order. I went to merengues and a man named Francisco said Crystal had left but she explained the situation to him. I brought the bag back exactly how it was given to me and said I'm missing beans and here's the mofongo dish that you guys gave me but didn't want. He took the monfongo back (which is the most unsanitary thing I've ever witnessed in a restaurant) and then went out back as I was standing there for 15 minutes only to come back and accuse me of stealing a dish they had put in the bag. Francisco then proceeded to tell me that his manager which was a Spanish speaking woman standing beside who apparently couldn't speak to me bc she couldn't speak English said that if I could produce the dish I had stolen then they would make me the tostones relleno de camarones. It honestly was the most horrifying experience I've ever encountered in dealing with customer service. Not one time did they apologize for messing up the order or my time which this whole ordeal took an hour and a half. Finally I said you can take all your food back I just want a refund. Francisco said that I then had to call Grubhub myself to get my money back after standing there for another 15 minutes and took the food we had ordered. I called in the establishment to make sure I received my money back and could not believe that they were so willing to turn a very good customer away with no regard whatsoever. I order there almost twice a week but I guess business is so good that one less doesn't matter. Very...

COMBINACIÓN DE MARISCOS EN SALSA Yesterday, I placed two Seafood Combination plates with Lobster, Shrimp, Calamari, Octopus and Mussels cooked in Creole Sauce over the telephone. Both of my seafoods combination were burnt, salty and tasteless. I also placed two brown rice and beans plates over the telephone and both brown rice and beans plates had burnt brown beans, salty green olives in them, and both rice plates were extremely dry and tasteless. I also placed four orders of fried green plantains. When I arrived to pick up all my orders, I was told they don’t have anymore fried green plantains. What a shame to Merengue Restaurant owner! Merengue Restaurant owner, this is a very, very poor communication from your staff that took my order over the telephone. Simple Courtesy! Your waitress should have informed me right away that there were no more fried green plantains while taking my orders over the phone. In general, all my placed orders were extremely very poor quality foods and zero stars is what I’m giving because I’m very, very disappointed and unhappy with all my purchased orders made over the telephone. I have been going to Merengue Restaurant for twenty six years and the quality of foods and customer services has gone downhill drastically. Waitresses don’t know how to answer the telephone professionally and they're extremely rude when taking your orders over the telephone. As a regular Merengue Restaurant Customer, yesterday was my worst experience and this is not acceptable by me at all. I definitely won't recommend any of my family members and very close friends to Merengue Dominican Republic Restaurant because it is the worst Dominican Republic Food to...

I live in Rhode Island, and every time I visit Boston with my mother, we have to come to Merengue. I been coming here for many years and always have had a great experience, but the last time I went it wasn’t the same so we decided to give it another try on Monday. We arrived around 1Pm, the place was dead only 2 tables. We got seated and since we were super hungry we decided to skip apps and go strait to the antrey. I ordered the churrasco with rice and beans. Where do I start!! I’m Dominican, full blooded and know when las habichuelas are not fresh and these habichuelas were NOT fresh at all! They even had a weird taste and smell to them, so I asked the waitress to change them for some guandules... The guanduales were the same, maybe even worst. The churrasco was so salty I could not have a second bite, it was not enable. Also, please change the name of the sauce that comes with the churrasco because it is far from a Chimichurri sauce!!!!!! My mother ordered the paella de marisco, which she was day dreaming about since we arrived Boston. This paella was NOT fresh at all!!!!! The shrimp were hard, and the rice was completely dry! She could not eat at all. $57 later, we decided to just leave. It breaks my heart that such great restaurant has gone downhill. The service was slow. We literally waited 35-40 minutes for our food, which we patiently waited thinking the food was going to be worth it! Which wasn’t the case! I’m sorry, but this will be my...
