Most disappointing pizza relative to the hype that I have ever had. I really tried to go in not expecting too much, despite all the buzz, but man did we feel trolled for waiting in line outside for an hour for that. I really tried to find something redeeming about it, aside from the charming, humble interior. The sauce was pretty fresh? I believe straight San Marzano tomatoes, not seasoned. Fine. The cheese seemed to be straight mozzarella i.e. no blend with a harder cheese, which I am also fine with in theory, but the problem was the sloppy application: unevenly distributed, and generally just way too much, which brings us to the main issue. This is very heavy, super doughy pizza, very similar to “mountain pizza” around the ski slopes of Colorado and Utah. The crust really brought it down. What’s more, ours was undercooked and had a visible, sedimentary layer of gummy, uncooked dough between the undercarriage and the sauce. Some of the pizzas at nearby tables looked more properly cooked, so I am willing to believe ours was particularly botched. The historic oven is capable of leaving a nice char, but the ratios of ingredients are just way off here if you have any kind of preference for thin-ish pizza (NY-style, New Haven style—hell, Chuck E. Cheese). We took three leftover slices home, and they weighed 2 lbs. The strange thing is, I tried the Regina’s in Allston a few years ago before it shut down, and it was much better and a completely different pizza—much thinner, as I prefer. I waver between 2 and 3 stars, but because I know that 1 and 2 star reviews risk suspicion by virtue of hyperbole, and because it is such an institution, I’ll give it 3. I have a list of 38 pizza joints in Boston that I have sought out and ranked, and this place is tied for last (6.3/10) with three other places. Don’t say I...
Read moreUpdate (26/5) : Went back again today (twice this month)… raw pizza again. The crust and half the pizza was raw AGAIN. Got it comped but avoid Regina at the moment. I don’t know whether they got a new chef or the old owner died. But the pizza which was my fav in boston left a horrible taste in my mouth both times this month.
I have visited Regina Pizzeria around 30 to 50 times and it continues to be my favorite pizza place in Boston. The service provided by the older staff members has always been friendly and great. However, I have noticed that the newer, younger waitresses seem to lack attention and care towards the customers. On one occasion, they locked the door early on Saint Patrick's Day without informing anyone and even told us to f off when we tried to open the door not know it was closed. Despite this, I still visited the place multiple times.
The pizza served here is mostly amazing, but I have had a bad experience with their small 10-inch pizza every time I've ordered it. I am not sure if it's due to the freshness of the dough, but there has always been an issue.
During my recent visit, I noticed that the staff appeared to be distracted and not very attentive. The pizza dough was half undercooked, and I had to point it out to the waiter. The waiter also attempted to take away my pizza tray while I was still eating and my beer glass while there was still beer left in it. Additionally, a customer who had been waiting to order for about 20-30 minutes had to get up and ask if they could order or leave. I was quite disappointed as I consider Regina Pizzeria to be the best pizza...
Read moreMy daughter turned 1 and we decided to take her to the aquarium. We walked around the north end afterwards. I grew up in everett, so I've been in plenty of times. My wife had never been to the original Regina. We have been loyal Station Landing customers since 2007. We love it there. However, when we walked in to the North End location it was total opposite. The first woman that greeted us was very upset we had a baby carriage. She asked "you eating here or takeout "? We had been walking a while, so we wanted to sit and eat. She said we don't have room for your carriage. It'll block the exit. I asked if she wanted me to leave my 1 year old outside (sarcastically), she begrudgingly obliged. The waitress that came over was slightly better. Her name was Kat. She took our order. Even said she would bring out a bowl of shredded mozzarella for our baby to pick at. She seemed very friendly. The pizza came out as we ordered. We ate. She never once came over to ask how it was or to offer me another beer or my wife a soda refill. It wasn't until she noticed we were done when she brought over the check to get us out. She stayed at the table and played with my daughter for a few minutes. Kat saved the experience at the end by doing that. However we didn't feel welcomed in the slightest. Even with my rewards card that I have had for almost 20 years. We walked past 20 places we could have stopped for pizza for a terrible experience. I know they will get their tourist business, but go elsewhere. Even the medford location, where you are appreciated. Avoid the north end! Kat was the...
