Okay let me start off by saying I HATE that Iâm writing this review & want to LOVE this location so bad, but here we are :(
The 1st time I came to this place (more than 6 months ago) w/a friend for brunch; I enjoyed my dish & felt satisfied ! Yet within 25-30 minutes of me returning back home I EXPERIENCED THE WORST food poisoning!! Ended up sick for the remainder of the day!
Fast forward to this pass Thursday (8/10/23) my first time being back in months with our entire work crew. I was a little standoffish because of my previous experience; but my coworkers were excited to go, so I decided to not hold the restaurant to an old situation & give a second chance.
Thatâs until I went to the bathroom to wash my hands before eating. The bathroom had an offensive sewage smell which threw me off immediately. To make matters worse on the outside of one of the stall doors my friend was using, I noticed a smeared hand print of what seemed to be dried blood or fecal matter . (Personally to me it appeared to be dried blood) when my friend came out we realized it was also a smaller smear on the inside of the door. GROSS.
Now it could have been a patron; who left behind this nastiness fair enough, but the fact that it was so dried on (cringe) appeared to me that no one had done a cleaning or a check up on the bathroom in a lengthy amount of time.
I did stay with my group for our outing, had a few drinks, but ate NOTHING the whole time :( couldnât muster up the courage. I REALLY hope management sees this & talks to the staff about the underlying cleanliness of the facility; because on the surface itâs a BEAUTIFUL place with a detailed tasty menu. SUPER UNFORTUNATE that I even had to write this! In the long run Iâm hoping this restaurant flourishes; IâM ROOTING FOR YOU!!!
This review ONLY COVERS THE JAMAICA PLAIN LOCATION & I will continue being a patron at THE ROXBURY TOP MIX location as Iâve always had great experiences there.

Drinks were good. Everything we ordered from the mojitos, to the espresso martinis, & margaritas were well made. The flight my friend ordered, she said was a little to sweet but that was about it.
The appetizers were also good. They were served hot & ready. Another plus.
The main course was ok. My friends enjoyed their food. Although the steak tips weren't bad, I didn't order the bbq ones that came out. I believe they mixed up my order with my friends order. I didn't bother to have them sent back though, probably because I was kind of full from the appetizers.
What I do not recommend:
If you have little to no patience, I do not recommend you go here. The waitress was barely if at all present. At times we had to flag her down. At one point, the hostess actually stop by our table to see if we needed anything. I think she also noticed we had been sitting & waiting quite a while.
If you have sensitive hearing or issues with loud music, I do not reccomend you frequent this restaurant SPECIFICALLY, on Wednesday night from 8 - 9. I love a good salsa class which is what they offer for an hour on Wednesday nights. The issue was that they kept the house speakers blaring one system & the salsa class which was in the front of the restaurant started blaring their music even louder. The competing volume of music is a little unsettling. Definitely difficult to hold a conversation or even hear yourself think. I'm not sure why one of the systems had not been turned down or off for the hour they designated to their theme.
Also small note, this restaurant has two locations. My friends and I went to the location in JP. However, it appears the menu's slightly differ. The Roxbury location seems to carry additional items. My friend had a habit of trying to put in her order & being told by the waitress that they don't carry it at that location.
All in all definitely worth some good drinks...
Read moreThis place could be so much better first it was very cold in there at 10pm although there was a lot ppl with no dancing and everyone seated there was no body heat or any kind of heat the waiters took FOREVER and constantly forgot things like forks and napkins so you couldnât eat right away when they brought the food..not that That really mattered bc half of the food was cold..the most important part the meat!! Was cold it was seasoned well delicious flavor but cold hardly warm.. Mac and cheese has box cheese sauce.. asked for medium well steak tips and they came out really well done tough and cold.. asked to switch Cole slaw for asparagus and they said that wasnât allowed then seen them substitute it for someone elseâs plate when I asked them again then said theyâd see what they could do then brought out the coleslawâŠliterally a dollop spoon full of coleslaw I was just ready to go especially bc the music wasnât that diverse.. but the most horrible icing on the cake is when they brought out the bill it came out to $72.00 1 steak tip plate (very small portions on the steak tips but big ole piece of chicken breast.. steak tips $21.99) 1 bbq chicken plate and 1 drink.. we ordered to go but they brought the food plated so we had to wait for them to bring boxes which is how I ate cold food and had a drink all of that awefullness and they automatically added on $11.00/gratuity/tip and we were there for 45 minutes communication with the waiter was pretty difficult I gave 2 stars because my old fashioned drink was very strong.. not very tasty but strong so I approve that.. p.s if restaurants refuse to take off the gratuity call your bank and request a refund of the gratuity IT IS NOT MANDATORY!! Make sure and check bill thoroughly they charged gratuity for a table of 8 when we only sat down and talked with a table 4 while we waited for our...
