Flavorful Fiesta at Cafe Mexicali! Cafe Mexicali in Boulder is a hidden gem for anyone craving authentic, flavorful Mexican cuisine. This vibrant eatery is not just about food; it's about an experience that transports you straight to the heart of Mexico with its rich flavors and colorful decor. The moment you step into Cafe Mexicali, you're greeted by an atmosphere that's both casual and festive. The staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home. They are always ready to recommend dishes if you're unsure of what to order and ensure that your meal is perfect from start to finish. The menu at Cafe Mexicali is a delightful showcase of Mexican culinary tradition. The Creamy Habanero Chicken Burrito is an absolute must-try. It’s smothered with their signature creamy habanero sauce, which has just the right amount of kick to it. The burritos are generously filled and wrapped in a homemade tortilla, which you can tell is made fresh daily. Another standout is the Sweet Pork, which is slow-cooked to perfection, tender, and bursting with sweet and savory flavors that melt in your mouth. For vegetarians, the Veggie Stuffed Avocado topped with melted cheese and salsa is a dream, proving that the chefs cater to every palate with equal passion. Cafe Mexicali’s commitment to quality is evident in every dish, using only the freshest ingredients which are sourced locally wherever possible. Their salsas, ranging from mild to fiery, are made in-house and add an extra layer of authenticity and taste to each meal. Don't forget to end your meal with their homemade flan or churros, which provide a perfect, sweet finish to a delightful meal. In conclusion, Cafe Mexicali in Boulder is more than just a dining spot; it's a destination for those who love great Mexican food served with warmth and a smile. A visit here is sure to leave you planning your next meal before you've even left!

I will start this by saying that I understand rare occasion things happening when you go out to eat and that I love these restaurants. That being said when I visited today I ordered 2 beef tacos after eating the first taco and getting half way through the second I found a little black spider crawling in my lettuce, I was quickly given a refund thankfully but when I asked the manager who helped me if they look over food shipments when received or if produced is cleaned in anyway he asked me how am I supposed to do that, I am currently a culinary student myself taking my state food certification so l know this is wrong in so many ways. Like I said I understand a rare occasion mishap but then continuing to tell a customer you don't know how to look over or clean produce is completely unprofessional. This just really makes me not want to eat at these establishments which is so upsetting cause I love their food .

I'm going to talk about the food in a minute, but first: The no-tip situation needs to be addressed. When I was paying for my burrito today, my tip was refused. They said they aren't ALLOWED to take tips. I paid and left but kept thinking about it. Because this is different than most establishments, I thought maybe the place was forward-thinking and compensated employees for the lack of tips? But I had to know so I called and asked if they were paid a higher amount than they would expect at a place that does allow them tips. The question made the person very uncomfortable and it took some prodding to get an answer but, no. They don't get paid extra.

Not cool business owner. If you're going to disallow tips for your service workers, pay them a fair wage or else it seems like you might be actively preying on uninformed or young workers. Considering the service I received, I felt like they deserved the tip. It's weird. I hope you see that it is weird. And also that there's a great explanation for this oddity. Anyway onto the food.

I am a huge burrito fan. Period. I read a review that the burritos here were really good so I was excited to try it. I was let down. Although the red sauce was good and spicy, the rice & beans were very bland and flavorless. To have a delicious burrito, you MUST have delicious ingredients and this burrito lacked those.

If not for the weird no tip rule, I'd rate at a 3 (3.5 if I could cos service was good). But that weird no-tip...

The food is great, I usually order take out. Yesterday I worked a 12hr shift, when I got home last night the power was out in my neighborhood. I came to the restaurant about an hour before they closed. They were breaking down the stations when I had arrived. I was the only customer in the restaurant. I had never been inside of the restaurant so I originally went to the register to order, the woman at the register didn’t say anything but pointed me down towards the other end to order. A young woman behind the line took my order. She was nice, she was the only person who spoke to me. I walked back towards the register to check out. The woman originally behind the register looked at me and went back to her task of making herself a drink. I waited a few moments, all three staff members were looking at me and each other; I’m assuming expecting the other ones to help because they did not stop what they were doing. There was two people breaking down stations/cleaning. I was the only person in the restaurant and none of them helped me expect for the young woman who took the order but had already gone back to her task of cleaning. I left without paying and without my food. I’m going to stick to take out...
