I was visiting the area during the time my daughter was moving into CU Boulder for the semester, and before I headed back home, I wanted to have one final dinner with my daughter and her roommate. As with most people trying to figure out what others are in the mood for within a group, it can be quite challenging at times. But, we were able to narrow it down to a couple different genre options and eventually settled for Mexican food. I conducted a quick search for nearby restaurants and this one had one of the higher Google reviews out of several within the vicinity. Not to mention, a lot of Mexican restaurants were closed on Sundays, which was weird to me since living in Las Vegas, majority of things stay open everyday and for a long duration...unless you're Chick-fil-A.
When we arrived (25 Aug 2024), the restaurant wasn't busy at all which can be comforting based on noise level and overall comfort. The employee working in the dining area, Lizeth, greeted us nicely and instructed us to seat ourselves. After about 2 minutes, she arrived with our menus and took our drink order...and soon afterwards, our food order. The service provided by Lizeth throughout the evening was impressive; she was attentive, courteous/friendly, and efficient. I even noticed how well she operated as the only server when additional customers came pouring into the restaurant.
We ordered the Combination Plate #1 (Shredded Beef Taco and Cheese Enchilada), Boulder Burrito, Carne Asada Taco, Al Pastor Taco, Carnitas Taco, Beef Taco, and Quesa Birria Tacos; and Churros for dessert. For the most part, everything tasted good; some of the items (Cheese Enchilada and Carne Asada Taco) didn't stand out as much and I can honestly say that I've had much better back home. Plus, the Carne Asada were a little overcooked...which was a bummer because that's my favorite style meat in Mexican cuisine. On the other end, the Birria Tacos...wow...those were scrumptious! And the Churros...phenomenal!
The restaurant décor was nice, setting and providing an obvious Spanish/Mexican theme which played into the overall atmosphere; however, I was hoping the music selection would've been more consistent with that same feel. The prices at this restaurant was very reasonable and I highly respect this business for their support to the men and women of the Armed Forces, including its Veterans - thank you for that! Overall, I "liked" this restaurant and I can see myself revisiting if I happen to be in the area again. I highly recommend this restaurant to all locals and visitors. Note: If you eat here and leave them a review, you'll get a free order of Churros (definitely worth it). I would've left this review regardless of...
Read moreOrdered a breakfast burrito with chorizo, eggs, cheese, beans, and potatoes. I wanted this place to be good so bad, but unfortunately, the quality was just not there. They got the tortilla right, but there was almost no egg whatsoever, the chorizo tasted like your basic tube chorizo from the grocery store, the beans tasted canned and pasty and the potatoes were soggy french fries which is a big miss for me. You’re not really supposed to put french fries in a burrito but if you do, they need to be not soggy and undercooked and these were unfortunately. As far as the rolled tacos that I got, when I opened the container, they looked amazing but unfortunately, I’m not sure if they are frying the tortillas before selling them or if they were just stale. They were just not light and crispy like you would expect a rolled taco to be. The meat inside had no flavor and didn’t even appear to be seasoned. Unfortunately, for me as much as I hate leaving a bad review, the food quality to me here is just not worth the price which by the way my bill was $25.71 for a breakfast burrito and five roll tacos, I don’t mind spending money on food,...
Read moreI recently visited this restaurant with a group of colleagues. The service was excellent, and the food tasted great — I ordered the chicken enchiladas, while the rest of the group went with vegetarian options.
Unfortunately, shortly after our visit, I became extremely ill with symptoms consistent with norovirus, including severe vomiting and diarrhea that lasted for days. None of my colleagues got sick, and the only major difference was that I was the only one who ate the chicken.
While I can’t prove it with 100% certainty, it’s highly likely that the chicken was either undercooked or improperly stored. This experience was incredibly unpleasant and concerning, especially given how seriously foodborne illnesses can affect people.
I hope the restaurant reviews its food safety protocols, particularly with meat dishes. I genuinely enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff were lovely, but this health incident overshadowed the...
