Full disclosure, I do not read Italian or cook and it's been a couple weeks since "the incident". I had only been to Via Perla one time before this. My first visit to experience the restaurant was amazing. I had a dish that the Bartender recommended of pasta, chicken and red sauce. It was absolutely delicious, I would definitely be back for more. When I came back a few weeks later for my 2nd visit, what we will refer to as "the incident" took place. I was greeted by a lovely man with an accent and sat down at my table. After taking my drink order. I sat enjoying the atmosphere. As I continued to sit there for a uncommon amount of time, watching the waiter serve every single one of his tables before me(food and drink). Over 15 minutes of being ignored; as an entire restaurant thrived around me. I finally got my drink and was ready to order. I was starving, and I wanted that dish of delicious pasta, chicken, and red sauce I had enjoyed before on my first visit. Of course I can not read the menu. No problem I thought, I'll just explain the dish to the waiter. How many dishes with chicken, pasta and red sauce can they have and as long as it has chicken and hand made pasta, I didn't really care. I explained my order, and the waiter was very confident in his understanding of my request. He pointed at one of the most expensive dishes and said this is what you want! Perfect!....or so I thought.......What is eventually brought out to me is a plate with 2 russet potatoes, some boiled chicken, smothered lightly in red sauce. Where is the hand made past? This literally left me speechless. Potatoes...what? The food runner takes off and I'm left looking at my stupid $50 choice of boiled chicken. I started getting down on myself. I usually do not say anything if my order is made wrong, but I was paying top dollar for this and it wasn't at all what I wanted. I was so upset that I was ignored and now the wrong dish. I sat there and waited...............................and waited..................................and waited. Then when my waiter finally made it over to me (BTW i am literally in the center of his 'zone' of tables) to ask me about my food. I went on to explain that this is not what I was thinking I was ordering. There was no pasta on the plate. NOW RIGHT HERE. This is what the waiter does, this is why you get 1 star. The waiter blames me for not describing the dish better. I reiterated the fact that pasta was a key ingredient in my request and I never mentioned potatoes. The waiter and I went back and forth. I felt so uncomfortable I had to get up and leave. Now when I started to leave the waiter panics and starts making me feel even more uncomfortable. The entire restaurant has noticed at this point. I had to keep repeating that I am uncomfortable as I was chased out of the restaurant. I went from my first visit being welcomed like family and thinking I found a new favorite Italian place. To my second visit where I am being chased out the front doors like I kicked their dog or something. I never got that dish and still want it, but this place makes me uncomfortable now after being embarrassed by...
Read moreI went to my neighbor Felix last week and although I hate leaving reviews, I felt like I needed to after this encounter .Firstly we were seated and greeted by our waiter who then proceeded to say “I can’t take your orders right now so I’ll be back” and then disappeared for 30 minutes. It was busy so everyone in our party understood. However later in our time at the restaurant, I was served raw chicken. I have never sent any food back, ever, but after all 7 people in our party (including two nurses) told me that the chicken was raw I mentioned to our waiter that I couldn’t eat it. I showed him the raw chicken and he responded with “that is definitely not cooked let me take it back”. After about 10 minutes he returned and stated “our chicken is cooked for two hours, maybe it’s just not your thing, get something else”. This, I felt, was a weird response after he also observed the raw chicken and said himself that it wasn’t right. I acquiesced and ordered pork tacos which I love to say, were very good (however I was charged for and paid for, the chicken tacos that I didn’t even touch as well as the pork tacos because I simply had no interest in talking to any employee there by the end of this meal). The end of the night was not any better. Our waiter came to the table and asked if there was anything he could get us, 2 of us tried to order drink refills and were told “oh we’re closing in 1 hour so we can’t do that”, ok that makes perfect sense! We then asked for the check. This would have been perfectly understandable if our waiter hadn’t then turned to the table directly next to us, taken their drink order, and brought them 3 drinks chips and guac , before throwing our check on the table and leaving. All and all the last three times I’ve been here it’s been made quite obvious that if you’re not a thin, white, under 21 female, you will not be respected or paid any attention to (example being the time I went with my father and the waiter looked at him and said “and you, what do you want?” Followed with an eye roll). All this to say, it’s quite sad because they do have nice atmosphere and generally good food, just a terrible attitude and an obvious hate for certain groups of people. $118 for pork tacos fish tacos, raw chicken tacos, two margs, and the feeling that I want good enough for Caleb (our waiter) to care about, I’d say not worth it, go...
Read moreThough I have never left a review on a restaurant, I left and felt that I had no choice. From the start our waiter seemed inconvenienced that we were even in the building. When we started to order drinks our waiter suggested we change our order multiple times until he finally agreed to take our order the way we wanted it. We did not see our waiter again until we were past ready to order food. Once the food was ordered and it was coming out, the chicken tacos we ordered were very pink and rubbery. I have also never sent food back but I had not choice as I could not physically eat it. We were very apologetic when sending it back and the response we got was "we cook our chicken for 2 hours this dish just isn't right for you I guess, I suggest ordering something else". Im sorry Ive never met anyone who enjoys raw chicken but to each their own. After ordering something else we continued eating. After we were done we wanted to order more drinks. Our waiter then said that they were closing relatively soon and its probably too late to order more. That was totally fine until we saw him take other tables orders, who had also finished eating, and run drinks to them for the next 15 minutes. We were charged for the uncooked tacos as well as the replacement but our waiter was no where to be found so we ended up paying it because we had been waiting so long. Each person in my party spent upwards of 60 dollars and all we were met with was mediocre food and a rude waiter. This was my third time going and I have never met one respectful employee who works there. I will not be going back again and would not recommend it to anyone else! Tons of other restaurants in Boulder are cheaper, have better food, and have...
