When Rosetta Hall first opened, we loved it. Great atmosphere with a variety of food options. But last time we were there (~a year ago), it was underwhelming. We thought maybe a rough day or whatever. However today, we decided it’ll be a pass from now on. The food options are… fine. However, the different stalls have very few shareable options—so getting a few things from a variety of places is a more difficult option. The food quality is lacking, ESPECIALLY for the prices you’re paying. When you have multiple places in one order, you get one text to tell you all your food is ready (in the beginning, we received individual texts by stall). Tonight we ordered some skewers from the Japanese spot along with fish and chips from Flat Iron. Because of no separate notification, the skewers were very cold once we got them. And when we got the food from Flat Iron, we noticed that the crew wasn’t marking orders complete as it happened. So they had a bunch of orders ready, waiting—and then they’d “clear” the counter once a bunch of orders were complete. People were definitely getting cold food from there. The fries from flatiron used to be excellent. Now, they’re… fine. I’d love to know what the tipping situation is for staff. You go in; you sit yourself; you place your high-priced order yourself; you retrieve your water, plates, silverware and napkins yourself, you pick up your order yourself. We did have someone bus our table tonight, but typically you bus your own table. But when you order, you’re prodded for an 18% tip. You can do custom—but the expectation is 18%. I’m not sure if that is going to the cooking staff, the cocktail servers (who are available at certain times. But since it’s busy, it may be better to head to the bar yourself. And anyway, there’s also a bar tab to tip them on.) or the bussers. Would love some clarity on that since it feels like this is just a cop out way to not pay staff a living wage despite patrons doing most of the actual service work.
Positives: the space is lovely and comfortable. The bar is decent, though maybe a bit pricey. Our cocktail server tonight...
Read moreI'm giving these guys an extra 0.5 stars for the concept. It's a fancy dining hall that has Italian, Chinese, Mediterranean, New American, Mexican and dessert and drink options. You get seated, then look up the menu and order online. The server from whichever station you ordered from, brings the food to you. Super chill and I LOVED this idea!
Among the 4 of us, we ordered the Veggie Pizza, the pork quesadilla, the beyond burger and the nachos verde with beyond meat. We ordered an Old Fashioned, a Spiced Cider Mule and the Alameda Margarita. To finish, we got the belgian chocolate cake to share.
My friend raved about the pizza. Perfectly thin/thick crust, yummy tomato sauce, just the right amount of cheese and mint. My pork quesadilla was decent. I thought the pork was a little dry but with the salsa it was good. The nachos were especially delicious with a crunch to the nachos and a nice mix of beyond meat, nuts, beans, cheese, salsa and guac to go with them. The burger was ok. As my friend said, "it's trying to behave like meat", meaning it hadn't quite hit the mark.
The drinks were a teeny bit disappointing. The Mule came with powdered sugar crusted to the sides which made it sweeter than I liked. The margarita was decent. The old fashioned was as expected.
The belgian chocolate cake was actually quite delicious. It's a huge piece so too much for one person. The chocolate wasn't too sweet or too dark. It was moist and the icing was perfectly combined with it.
I will recommend this place for this interesting concept and the...
Read moreWhen we walked in, there wasn’t much seating but we went to a table with dishes still on the table. We cleaned the dishes off ourselves, which was fine. The server came up to us and asked if we wanted to drink anything and we asked her to wipe the table off as it had some stains as it wasn’t cleaned off before. She said “the table was already cleaned. It’s not going to get any cleaner than that”. Rude considering that she didn’t clean the table herself and it is an open sitting place, so she had no way of knowing if it was even cleaned. She ended up wiping the table and we explained that there were dishes when we sat there. She never got our drink orders and never came up to us again. I went to the bar to get a drink instead and understandably they were busy and I was waiting for a while. Some girls that came up to the bar after me got their orders right away and I was still waiting. Then the bartender looked me dead in the eye, turned around to the guy sitting next to me that got there way after I did and said “Sir, what can I get you?”. No one has talked to me or acknowledged me in any way before that. I left. People at Shanghai were super nice and made sure to let me know they will be with me as soon as they can. Sad that they probably have to share their tips with the rest of the incompetent staff. FYI I work in the food industry and would never treat a...
