Been in and around Boulder 25 years (since college), eaten at The Sink (an institution) a dozen times. First time there in ~10 yrs—greatly disappointing. Rainy Saturday in June, 1:30 PM, expectedly busy but not packed, reasonable 15 min for table.
So expensive! Yeah, inflation, pandemic, down economy, Boulder thinks it's LA now, blah, blah, blah, but c'mon...who in college can afford $20 burgers and $8 beers for lunch?? Even sodas are $4.
Kids menu I was glad for my daughter's comparatively reasonable $7 kids pizza. She was intrigued and impressed by the low ceilings and artwork. She gave the whole experience two thumbs up.
Pizza: borderline inedible Food was the biggest disappointment. Not wanting to splurge $40 on two burgers, we got a medium POTUS pizza. Right amount of food, nowhere near right amount cooked. Edge crust was chewy/delicious/fantastic, toppings were tasty, but the crust under the sauce was soggy, cold and doughy. Some parts were so raw I was able to peel out the dough and stretch it farther than the cheese on top!
Service Waiter was jovial and pleasant enough, but scarce, then uncreative about finding a solution to the pizza problem. Waited forever for him to come back so we could show him, choking down most of it down in the meantime. He was non-committal at first and left, then returned several minutes later asking if we wanted it remade. Of course we did, but our schedule wouldn't allow it, so we declined and reiterated our displeasure. Am I wrong for thinking they'd spot us ten bucks for serving raw dough? Not even one cent off.
There are a lot of cool things about The Sink, but given that the take-out prices are the same as dine-in, you're paying for the food, and when that food is expensive yet poorly prepared, you're not earning a...
Read moreVisiting from California. This place has a Berkeley-esque vibe. It makes sense since it's a college town. Not a fan of the vibe, but saw the 4.5 star reviews and wanted to try it out. My husband liked the beer, but the food and timing was a miss. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip and a beer to start. The waitress returned with a beer and took our main orders. The appetizer arrived and then 2 minutes later they served our entrees. Bad timing. We pointed it out to our server, but she said it was because they were coming from a lunch rush... we sat at 4:30pm. To review the appetizer; I loved the bread. The dip had too much spinach, some artichoke, and lacking creamy sauce. My husband was disappointed that he had to choose between his BBQ bacon burger and fries or the spinach dip appetizer since either will get cold. I told him to eat the burger since we've already evaluated the dip. He said the burger was ok, nothing special. I ordered the Burnt End Mac and the menu stated that a sauce was served on the side. I did not want BBQ sauce on my Mac and because it was said to be on the side, I ordered it. Turned out they mixed it with the meat and I guess I was already over it to complain. I picked through my Mac. I liked the Mac and jalapeno. I liked the Ends without the sauce. But I wanted to devour my comfort food. I can't do that if I have to navigate my way around unwelcomed flavors. We did not get dessert. Shame. I wanted the salted caramel pecan milkshake, but I couldn't afford another disappointment. We will not be coming back when we visit Boulder again, and we cannot recommend coming...
Read moreAllow me by saying that burgers here are off the chain! They are super delicious! We visited The Sink for dinner with my co-workers and all of us ordered their various burgers. Everyone was very pleased with their food. In my opinion their portions were adequate to their prices. As for the service goes I would have to say that our waitress (for the lack of a better word) was not either in the mood or just didn’t care. She showed very little to no enthusiasm while she waited at our table. We had to constantly ask for pretty much everything (extra napkins, straws and etc). Atmosphere felt little too loud and not so tidy. There were some dirty napkins, other used items on the floor across the dining area. Restrooms weren’t clean. I’m not sure if it’s always like this or if we just came after their rush hour… not sure about that. But for the first impressions, I was not impressed with the inside atmosphere. Parking can be tricky. We had to drive around for a couple of minutes to find street parking. Luckily someone pulled out from a parking spot nearby and we were able to park our car. Otherwise, it might have taken longer for us to find a parking. All-in-all I would like to visit here again. I personally really like the food here. I hope I’ll be visiting here again when I’m back to...
