First of all, I am from Spain born and raised (yes, I am biased). Tapas are microscopic in this place. In Spain such portion is provided for free with a drink, so the overpriced tapas of Aion became insulting for me. They said they ran out of mussels and we were there at 430pm for dinner. The tortilla de patatas was terrible, dry and with a tomato sauce topping (that does not exist in Spain). Pulpo was as dry as the tortilla and by the way, pulpo mixed with chorizo and fries, that does not exist in Spain either. Wine was 3-4 times more expensive than original price in Spain (unfortunately this is almost the norm everywhere here). I used not to write reviews but I am sick of the quality/price of food in many American restaurants. We, as users, need to stand up and fight for better quality and better prices. Spending more than 100$ for crappy food cannot be the norm. These restaurants are making a lot of money based on ignorant palates thinking that is real Spanish food or real...
Read moreLiving in Boulder, we've had the chance to visit Cafe Aion more than a few times and with consistency I can say the place is sub par. It sells itself as a tapas restaurant. It is not. Having spent time in Spain I would trade the worse tapas bar in Madrid for this place. The menu is limited and has little to do with tapas and more to do with university food. The other night we did try the paella and after waiting more than 40 minutes we received the worse paella I had ever tasted. Watery, hard rice, and only a few bits of shrimp and fish. I would give the sommelier a 2 out of 10 for the quality he brings to the restaurant. The service is, well, collegiate a best--millennials who could care less about service and serving a great dining experience. If you are foodie, stay away from this place. If you are college kid wanting a good Wed. night special hamburger, this place...
Read moreDishonest business! My friend and I went for dinner on a Tuesday. Our waitress told us it was happy hour all night on Tuesdays. We asked for 2 orders of mussels and fries ($10 each) and 1 beet salad, all on the Happy Hour Menu. In addition, we each had one drink, and were told these were $3 off for Happy Hour. When I got the check, I made the mistake of trying to be gracious. I barely looked at it and put down my credit card. When I realized I had been charged $95 for the meal, I told the waitress there had been a mistake. She told me our orders were the larger orders from the regular menu. She did not offer to revise the charges, despite my telling her we had ordered off the happy hour menu. She is also the manager, and despite my leaving phone messages twice, no one has called me back. I will not give my business to such a dishonest...
