Location If you're looking for fine dying at this location, you going to be disappointed. Everything is packaged to go. There's no way for seeing at the tables. The location is quite nice, a little bear. But I wanted to sit down and be serve to eat. What a waste of a beautiful facility. They also done in area is very nice. One of the few locations you could find to sit outside and eat in Bowie. Food: disappointed, really isn't the word. I was totally on satisfied with the food from the taste to the portion side. The fried chicken was not seasoned well enough to my liking. The portions were ridiculously small. I had the fried chicken greens and candy yams. The candy jams were chopped and small small pieces. Drowning in too much heavily nutmeg sauce. The portion was so small I think I measured four teaspoons. The Greens were okay but nothing the right grandma about. The chicken was fried perfect with no seasoning. I had to put salt on the fried chicken to be able to tolerate it. Did I mention the portions sizes???? Ridiculously small. Service?: well the guy at the counter taking our money was okay. No affect and he seemed a little slow. But he did get the order correct. The prices, kind of high compared to the other places in the area. Their plates runs for about $14.99 I think Ruby's start at about 20. I asked for water, they gave me the smallest cup it probably was about 4 oz or less. I had to get up four times to get water The cup was so small. For the record I went on October the 20th and it was full standing room only. When are we going to get a nice fine dining restaurant in Bowie that's serves soul food? Why does every soul food restaurant in the Bowie area serve their food on a food line without table service?! PS I brought the peach cobbler I bought home. But it looked disappointing. The peaches look like they came out of the can and there was actually running juice in the container. Unfortunately I would not recommend this place to anyone for the food. It's a nice place to go sit outside on the patio if you're in that area. As for me I'm going to just head back to Levi's soul food restaurant in largo. They have large portions and...
Read moreMy mother and I have driven by this restaurant many times in the past few months and one day we were going to try it. Today was that day and Ruby’s did not disappoint us. I saw a woman coming out with a big bag of food and I asked her. How is the food? She said, “It’s amazing” We didn’t hesitate to get out our vehicle and go in to eat after that recommendation. We were greeted by John and when we informed him this was our first time there he gave us a grand tour of what Ruby’s has to offer us. It was amazing! All the different southern style dishes they have, The desserts were definitely calling my name, and they have their own line of drinks. I got the lemonade and it was awesome recipe made by one of the staff! She was there to see my reaction to her lemonade! I plan to go back and try every flavor! Let’s get into the seating! You seat yourself either at a table or a booth. This place is super clean and the booths are perfect in height for seniors who have trouble sitting or standing. You also have the option to eat your meal outside on their patio dining area.
When your food is ready they call your name and you pick it up at the counter. It’s packed ready to go so if you have leftovers you can just close your tray and take it with you! The food was delicious! I had eggs and bacon, grits, served with biscuits. Nothing needed seasoning. The grits were definitely giving that southern flavor. I can’t wait to go back there. The entire staff was super friendly and they all were smiling and treated us very well. John came from behind the counter and invited us to come back. He answered all my questions about the History of the Restaurant and where the name came from. It was awesome to learn about the owners Aunt Ruby and why this restaurant was named after her. John held the door open for us as we left. This was an extraordinary experience and I can’t wait to tell my family, friends, and followers...
Read moreAs a Texas transplant craving a taste of home, discovering Ruby's Southern Comfort Kitchen was like stumbling upon a delicious slice of the Lone Star State right here in Bowie. From the moment I walked in, the warm, welcoming atmosphere and the aroma of Southern spices instantly transported me back to the comforts of home.
What truly set Ruby's apart, however, was their ingenious fusion of Southern and Caribbean flavors. Incorporating jerk seasoning into some of their dishes added a delightful twist that I hadn't experienced before. The perfect balance of spice and sweetness in their jerk chicken and jerk shrimp dishes brought a whole new dimension of flavor to the classic Southern comfort food I know and love.
Speaking of comfort food, Ruby's nailed it on every level. From their crispy fried chicken to their creamy mac and cheese, every dish was a nostalgic reminder of Sunday dinners back in Texas. And let's not forget about the sides – the collard greens, cornbread, and black-eyed peas were all bursting with flavor and authenticity.
But perhaps the most impressive thing about Ruby's was the sense of community it fostered. The friendly staff made me feel like part of the family, and the communal dining tables encouraged conversation and camaraderie among diners. It was like being welcomed into someone's home and treated to a feast made with love and care.
Overall, my experience at Ruby's Southern Comfort Kitchen was nothing short of exceptional. The combination of familiar Southern flavors and innovative Caribbean twists made for a dining experience that was both comforting and exciting. If you're a Texas transplant like me craving a taste of home, or simply a food lover looking for a unique culinary experience, Ruby's is an absolute must-visit. Trust me, you won't be...
