April 2019: Found myself in Bowling Green again and decided to visit Double Dog’s again. Took a seat at the bar and the two bartenders Shannon and Courtney welcomed me to the restaurant with a smile and a beer! The appetizer menu is diverse and I was thinking of going with the Queso & Pico & Chips but Shannon asked me if I liked chili…DUH! She said it wasn’t on the menu yet but they have a Queso chili version so I went with it. One of the managers brings out the dish and plopped in the middle is sour cream and jalapeños, not a fan of sour cream and jalapeños would mean a long night of indigestion. I asked him for a spoon so I could scoop it off and instead he says no problem and a few minutes later he brings me a fresh dish minus the sour cream and jalapeños…thank you very much! Now this appetizer is darn near a meal in itself and is really delicious with the chili. The homemade chips are bountiful…most I have ever received in an appetizer. While enjoying the Queso and my beer I was trying to figure out what to eat for dinner. For some reason I kept looking at the Thai Pasta Salad so I asked Courtney and as soon as I mentioned it her eyes lit up and she smiled. Seems it is her favorite dish there so I ordered it with the grilled chicken. I will admit…this is the absolute BEST pasta salad I have ever enjoyed and I WAS pretty proud of my version (sigh). The pasta was perfectly al-dente, the chicken moist and tender with just the right amount of char flavor, and the Thai Garlic Vinaigrette needs to be bottled and sold in the grocery!!! All of the different flavors mixed with the vegetables made for an incredible dish.
You can’t beat a place that offers great service and the manager (didn’t get his name…Red Sox fan though!), Shannon, and Courtney were exceptional. When you include delicious foods, TV;’s everywhere, and an interesting atmosphere you have a winning restaurant! I need to visit the local Nashville spots and try a hot dog…LOL
July 2018: Visited Double Dog’s on a recent road trip and was very impressed. Went with their Double Dogs Diddley Lager from Braxton Brewing Company…exceptional draft beer. I was soooooo tempted to order the steamed hot dogs (the New Englander in me was screaming go for it) but decided on the Bacon Cheeseburger and Creamy Slaw. Now the waitress (Jessa) warned me that their slaw was made with 1000 Island dressing versus Mayo. The burger was perfectly cooked and the bun was exceptionally good…I think it was a Brioche style but not sure. The Cole Slaw…WOW. Totally different than any slaw I have enjoyed and the 1000 Island dressing was really a compliment to the cabbage. The service was great and other items on the menu I saw go by looked delicious, especially the Bo's Dog Bowl Nachos and Stroganoff...
Read moreWas recommended to go here from someone I know. I was very disappointed. I tried 3 different flavors of the wings. None of them had a good flavor not to mention did not like the wings itself. Tried the sausage queso it was ok but the sausage was way to thick should have been ground up better. My son loved the BBQ bacon burger my wife loved the cheeseburger. The onion rings was cold and did not taste good at all . Even warm they would have tasted badly. The fries where not good to me but I don't like shoestring fries . My 2 sons liked them but my wife and I did not. My son had the hotdogs was not a fan of it either my son did not like it as well. I did try a bite of my wife's cheeseburger I will have to give this a 👍 it was really good but everything else was not. very disappointed especially after spending $105. The place however was very clean and nice decor loved the fireplace outside. The bathroom needed a little upgrade not dirty just old looking. The server was friendly and was doing a great job. Up until she brought the food then we never seen her again until we was done. She knew we had never eaten their before but she did not come back and check on Us to see if we liked the food or needed anything else. Again she was very friendly and helpful just wish she would have checked on us to make sure we was satisfied. I would personally not recommend this place for myself but I could see how someone not as picky as me...
Read moreI absolutely adored this place, from the food to the aesthetic to the service. Everything was fantastic.
First, the theme is obviously dogs, and they followed this throughout the entire restaurant, from the outside in. There are "dog houses" on the outside, pictures of dogs EVERYWHERE - even some of the food items are served in, you guessed it, dog bowls. Not to mention that they're actually dog friendly and allow dogs on the patio! Then they raise money for the humane society? Come on!
Enough with the theme, because seriously, I could go on forever. Let's get to the meat of it. 😅 I'm not actually a hot dog person, so I ordered what caught my eye, the Stroganoff Mac N Cheese. I was NOT disappointed. It was finger licking good, and I'm probably going to replicate it at home, to be honest, because it's genius. The husband got the pot pie, and it was also fabulous! These are both items I wouldn't normally get at a sports bar type restaurant, but they have nailed these items! Even the side order of mac n cheese we ordered for the kid was great.
Ironically, we ordered Bo's Dog Bowl Nachos, and while I am in love with it being served in a dog bowl, I will say it needs to stay in the kitchen. All the toppings were in one area, and it just wasn't as flavorful as everything else. The actual tortilla chips were great, though. I'm glad I tried them this time, next time I'm trying the Jalapeno...
